We've had a rought week w/the kitties this week.

Monday, we lost Ebony (our younger black kitty.) She was hit by a car and killed instantly in front of our neighbors' home. Mom didn't find any marks on her, so we figured the car got her in the head and she went that second. Poor thing probably didn't know what hit her.

We've also lost all four of Monkey-Monk's babies . . two of them were found Tuesday evening, one Wednesday afternoon and the last one on Thursday afternoon. We're not sure what they died from - none of them were malnourished. Her last litter was like that as well, and then we had lost 3 of them (only Yogurt is left from that litter and he's growing long and skinny.):(

Monkey-Monk herself is doing okay despite it all, except for her tummy has been acting up for a few days now and she's been battling some diarrhea. It's trying to clear up and she's strictly on dry cat food and water until it clears up completely (we had been giving her canned food every morning in addition to dry food since the babies arrived.)

Everyone else seems okay . . . Spud still won't stop sleeping in the cat food bowl (but at least her eyes aren't runny like they had been over the summer.) Applesauce is the same - rotten and lazy and taking over the bed. Licorice is starting to put on some weight (she had been a bit skinny over the summer.) Lady Blue is doing well (lounging on the bed right now watching me type on the laptop.)

I'm shutting up as I'm noticing I'm rambling again. LOL

Awww, DG. <<Hugs>> for Ebony and the kitties. At least in Ebony's case, she didn't suffer. Out like a light. When I go, I wanna go like that.

It never rains but it pours. RIP Ebony and Monkey-Monk's babies. :(

Which kitty is the one in your avatar, DG, is that Monkey-Monk?

Aww, DG, I'm sorry :( McGriff got hit and dragged by a car when he was a kitten...he sends cuddles and purrs to you and the other kitties.

Hope Monkey-Monk gets better soon. Maybe the vet can figure out what killed the babies?

wow classic symptom of feline distemper-fatal to kittens-some more info:

What are the symptoms of panleukopenia(feline distemper)?

The symptoms of panleukopenia can be similar to those seen in dogs with parvo or canine distemper (vomiting, diarrhea, and seizures), which is why the disease is sometimes called 'feline distemper.' Panleukopenia in young unvaccinated kittens is usually fatal.

How is the panleukopenia virus transmitted?

FPV is most commonly transmitted when a susceptible cat has contact with the feces or urine of infected cats. Infected cats shed the virus in their feces and urine up to 6 weeks after they recover. FPV can also be spread by contact with urine- or feces-contaminated items such as food bowls, water dishes, clothing, shoes, hands, bedding, and litter boxes.

The panleukopenia virus is also transmitted from the mother to the developing kittens within her uterus.

The environment of cats with panleukopenia should be considered contaminated with the virus. A 1:32 dilution of household bleach should be used to disinfect floors, dishes, litter boxes, cages, and other items. Remember that this virus can last for years in the environment
