First, I didn't do it.

A mutual friend of ours didn't know there was a bench warrant out for him on a ticket that he'd *paid* last year. First off, I remember him paying it. I was sitting there listening to him bitch about writing the cheque. Second, I'm extremely familiar with the general level of incompetence of the local public employees, having dealt with it on several occasions, myself. (No offense to anyone who works for the gov't in NM; I just assume you'll know what I mean about it because you surely have many coworkers who suck.) Now, there are records that the cheque was cashed, but somehow, the ticket still comes up as unpaid.

This friend and my girlfriend were out for a drive, and got pulled over for some completely trivial thing -- taillight was out, or some such thing. Friend gets arrested on the spot. Girlfriend gets asked for ID, which is promptly confiscated because it expired three days ago. She still has to get home from a town that's about 40 miles from where we live. She now has no license. She also has to work in the morning. She winds up being detained along with our friend, because leaving her standing on the side of the freeway would be illegal.

Something happens here. I don't rightly know what, because the girl was very tired and wanted to go to sleep. Somehow she got home and our friend managed to prove he'd paid the ticket. At least I *think* he did. Otherwise, he's still in jail...

I don't really care. She's home and he can take care of himself.

I'm pretty pissed about this whole affair. I'm pissed at my friend for getting pulled over. I'm pissed at the idiot who managed to accept the cheque without marking the ticket paid. I'm pissed at the cop who took my girlfriend's ID in a state where possessing your own expired ID is legal (I know. I still have all of mine from the time I was 14). I'm also just generally irritated that through this whole affair nobody called me. That'll wear off after I sleep, though.

Sorry. I'm just pissed off and I had to rant.
