My pet hamster "Mouse" just died.

He was named Mouse by my son who, at almost 1, couldn't tell the difference between a hamster and a mouse, so it stuck.

I noticed last week that he was on his way out and knew that his time was near. I'd been at my parents' house for a few days and just got back home tonight. I went to check on him and his breathing was a bit labored. So I picked him up and just held him and petted him for a while, he was very still.

I decided to clean his cage and then that's when I saw that he was gasping for air. So I held him in my hands until his very last breath. It was as though he waited for me to get home so that I could say goodbye. For that I was grateful.

I know he was only a hamster, but I feel like all my pets are family. Anyway, thanks for the shoulders.

Awwww...so sorry about Mouse :( *hugs* Pets are always part of the fam, no matter the species (hell, I was teary eyed when one of my hermies died)

Mouse knew he was loved.

Aww, good thoughts and hugs going your way. Always tough to lose a furbaby.

For a second there, I thought Jester was telling his inconsiderate friend had passed on!

My sympathies as well, on the loss of Mouse.

Something similar happend with my pet mouse Pudge. It's not fun, but it's quick, and they don't suffer.

Little critters have a shorter lifespan - but it's not easy to lose them. Say g'bye to Mouse and remember the funny things he did.

He'll be waiting for you over the rainbow bridge.
