Did anyone else see the final game on Sunday?

North Beach, the Italian section of San Francisco, was packed. People were spilling out into the streets, watching the game through cafe/restaurant windows. And when Italy won...fugetaboutit. The police had to block off the streets to traffic. It was all good clean fun though.

I just got an email from a friend of mine who lives in Pisa. They're still celebrating!

It was a hell of a game, though I think it's kind of lame that it had to be decided by penalty kicks (I dunno why, but for some reason I find that anti-climatic).

And WTF was up with Zidane? That stupid headbutt is a black mark on an otherwise impressive career. He may very well have cost France the Cup. Of course we have no way of knowing for sure, but you can bet the "what if" factor will haunt him for the rest of his life.

Oh yea, that World Cup. How far did the US get this time? Nobody really cares about soccer where I live. I heard something about it starting and then that was it.

I was over at a friend's house - we usually LAN and play on Guild Wars or something (just as I was doing the week previous when the site got rootkitted, so I was online to deal with it).

I sat in the same room as him as he watched it with his family, but I enjoyed myself by playing 'jawbreaker' on my palmtop.

He did start to teach his children phrases such as 'cheating french scum' after the Zidane incident, which cheered me up.

I have read a few reports that are bandying around the term "dirty terrorist"

as in thats whats Zidane was called by the guy who he headbutted. Zidane says it happened, other guy denys it.... sad really hes apprently a real french hero... well was?

I didnt watch the game but saw highlights. Looked good. Im a rugby toff myself :P

Ours is a rugby house as well, Kiwi, but we saw the end of the Final, mainly so I'd have some grounds on which to taunt my French colleagues :) Whatever the Italian called him, Zidane was a complete muppet to react like that.

I watched it; on behalf of my Italian friend, I was rooting for Italy. :)

I had my graduation party, so I was supposed to be talking to all the guests and stuff. So instead, I was inside, watching the World Cup. All the guests ended up coming inside and watching too. Much more exciting than sitting around. Seemed like any other French game I've seen. France get's a PK VERY early on. I was rooting for Italy, despite the fact that they beat Germany. No one wants to see a French victory anyway. The only thing that stinks is, most of the Italians in my area didn't care about the World Cup until Italy made it to the semifinals. Then all of a sudden they were crazy about it. Come on. Now we will never hear the end of it from them. Too many of them in my area just love to boast about how great Italy is and everything Italian is. My sister agrees. She can't stand half of her Italian friends because they just love being Italian so much. I'm lucky enough my Italian friends aren't like that.

I was following the World Cup. My poor Dutch guys got knocked out early :( I did watch the final and was rooting for France. I was totally :eek: when I saw the head butt. Pretty much said :wave: to the World Cup. I was also a touch disappointed that the game was determined by penalty kicks. Boring!

My Mum's family are Italian so you can guess who I was rooting for. :)

I was a bit disappointed it came down to penalties too - seems like nearly every game in the entire tournament did, and it gets a bit dull after a while.

Still, Italy won, which is the main thing. :D
