Freaking Out A Bit

Argh...

Okay, I have impetigo, which is an infection. A highly contagious infection. I discovered that when I woke up Wednesday morning to find my eye glued shut by pus and to find the same pus leaking out of sores all over my face. I freaked out and went to the doctor's that morning, even though I'd been planning on going that evening so that I wouldn't have to miss work, but it got too bad to ignore anymore.

So, I get medication that I have no insurance for, so it cost me $150, and an order to stay home for two days, but I didn't get a doctor's note. I call in yesterday to work, "No problem, stay home, feel better." Today? "Oh, well, you might have to bring in a doctor's note. I'm not sure. (Other Supervisor) will have to call you back at 8." It's only 6:53am.

I cannot afford to go back to the doctor and get another doctor's note. Hell, I don't even know when this doctor works because he was just a drop-in clinic doctor and not my family doc. I'm really freaking out because I don't want to get fired over this.

Agh.

First, why would they want you there with something contagious?

Second, the doctor obviously would have a record, maybe you could just call them and get a note?

I don't think they want me there, but policy might be that if I've missed three days in a row I have to have a doctor's note. And hopefully the doctor would have my visit on file, but it costs money to get them to write a note.

Oh Okay, gotcha.

But I think that sucks that you were JUST there, and they won't give you a note.

Would your employer take the receipt or something from the doctor that says what you have?

Phew. Just got off the phone with my supe, she said I could bring my antibiotics and their receipts in as proof. Man... As much as I might not like my job, my supervisors are the greatest people in the world.

Thanks guys. I should be healed soon. I've been taking the antibiotics for two days now, and the infections have stopped producing extra grossness... Now for all the remaining stuff to go away and I should be alright. But dang, of all the stuff to get on my face, I had to choose the ugliest infection possible! It's so yukky-looking... I'm almost glad they quarantined me so that no one could see me like this! :p

Oh my gosh. I have to go out tomorrow, but now I'll do it as Chewbacca! Hell, even Chewie is prettier than a face full of yuck! You rock out loud!

And yeah, I would have been able to go to work if my job didn't entail touching clothes all day, and then having other people touch those clothes right after I touched them.

They charge for a doctor's note? :confused: That's weird. And really, the doctor shouldn't even have to do it, the receptionist could probably just verify your appointment.

Glad they accepted your meds and receipt as proof, though. I looked up impetigo - you poor dear.

I vaguely remember having had impetigo when I was in 4th grade or so. Luckily it wasn't too severe; though I did have patches around my mouth so that wasn't fun.
