So, last week, I took EQ to Whole Foods for the first time, and she discovered her true love in the cheese section.

We were just talking about it today, because we're going back and we're taking DataJager with us, and she mentioned she wanted to buy a specific cheese she kept going back and trying samples of.

I asked her if she remembered the name. Her response was "Red Lobster!" And thus I wittle down and paraphrase the ensueing conversation

Me: ...close enough. It's Leicester, actually, but ok.
EQ: I found it on Wiki. Red Leicester. That's why it's Red Lobster...
Me: ... I <3 you, EQ, thou makest me giggle.
EQ: Yay! Iz so spechal

There ya have it, folks. An insight into the conversations EQ and I have.

wondrous, ain't it?

All in good fun, assuredly!

I've heard of mnemonics to help remember stuff, but that's a new one on me! :p

I hope your future hotel stocks both Lancashire cheese and Black pudding :D

It's so flavourful. And here I've spent my years eating regular Cheddar cheeses. It's so tasty!

Try Double Gloucester. That and Red Leicester have always been particular favourites of mine.

We can always see if they carry it at Whole Foods and if they'll give you a sample, EQ. odds are they do have it. Worth a shot, right?

Evil Queen

Yep! I'll be sure to ask. I wrote the name down and everything.

Ooooooo, it's good! *drool*

You'd never been to Whole Foods before EQ? All I can say is it's a damn good thing the one here is on the other side of town. Speaking of which, I'm off Thurs & Fri....maybe I need to make a trip....

I have enough trouble with how close Trader Joe's is. Be glad you don't have one of those, too!

Nope, Pagan, I've never been. I used to see them all the time, but never really went inside. (stupid comment) Did you know they knock 10 cents off your bill if you're using those reusable bags! I knew there was a reason I used those darned things!

Oh, I LOVE Trader Joes! They sell this mayo that has NO SUGAR and made with Apple Vinegar! Yum! I'll only buy it and Dukes. Neither of which are sold in Houston. :(

Actually, I've stared at the word for a minute or two now. It registers in my brain as Double Glow Chest....er.

I'm weird, okay?!

I've just been corrected via IM by EQ.

It is Double Glow Chester cheese.

I like my psuedonym better. >.>

Try Wensleydale for a nice mild white cheese. I'm Yorkshire and in the supermarket I work for, the Wensleydale cheese we cut comes from about 30-40 miles away at most. :D Goes nicely with carrot chutney for a sandwich.

*makes herself hungry* :D

If you can front the cash the cheeses here (http://www.thecheeseworks.co.uk/specialist_cheeses_shoponline.php) are incredible.

The smell when you walk into the store is absolutely amazing! :)

Sorry...

My friend found some kind of blueberry cheese at a nearby farm market. She loved it and hasn't seen it since. I've never heard of blueberry cheese. Anyone familiar with this stuff and where one might find it in New Jersey?

What's the difference between that pun and Limburger?

One stinks to high heaven, and the other's a kind of cheese. :D

They don't have (or at least list) Lancashire cheese, this is blasphemy, this is madness.

I like the extra old cheddar they always have samples of. The other ones they only have small pieces of, but this one is always a full bowl.

Thanks for reminding me to throw mine in the car. With all of this talk of cheese, now I have to make a cheese run over there!

Sunflower, across the street from me, does the 10 cents off, too, but they just don't have have the cheese selection as Whole Foods.

Oh, I LOVE Trader Joes! They sell this mayo that has NO SUGAR and made with Apple Vinegar! Yum! I'll only buy it and Dukes. Neither of which are sold in Houston. :(

They've got a great cheese selection, too. And carry my favorite stoned-wheat crackers. Don't know what they're stoned on, though. :p

Was it cheese with blueberries in it? All I can think of is Stilton. I know it's usually a savory variety, but I've seen a lot with lemon peel, apricot, and blueberry.

Oooooh one of the nicest cheeses I had was a cranberry cheese....*drools* And we found a very nice cheese called Kwaito cheese - lovely and creamy with a great texture

Sorry...

wensleydale is often mixed with blueberries or cranberries, and is delicious. most any well-stocked cheese shop should carry it. from what i've tasted, the blueberry tends to be slightly more aged and dry, whereas the cranberry is younger and kind of moist. i prefer the blueberry.

i can talk cheese all day, as i used to work with it for a living as a fromager (sort of the cheese equivalent of a somelier), and still miss it terribly. for those who like the english cheeses, and blues, i'd suggest huntsman, a specialty made from layered stilton and double gloucester.

my personal favorite is queso majorero, an aged goat cheese from the canary islands. it's got a great creamy texture and a nice mellow caproic flavor with hints of wild thyme.

as a family, though, i prefer the washed-rind cheeses (same family as limburger and the like), with italian taleggio being the category standout for me.

someone earlier in the thread had mentioned extra old cheddar. if you can find it (and good luck on this one) hook's farm in wisconsin makes an amazing 10-year cheddar. it has all the sharpness you'd expect, but unlike most cheddars which tend to get hard and crumbly when aged beyond about 3 years it still retains a nice creamy texture while maintaining the crunch of protein crystals that comes with a high-quality aged cheese.

any other cheese related questions? send them my way and i'll be happy to help :)
