That's outrageous, Kiwi. Are you insured for theft? I know it won't bring back the Christmas presents or the sweater, but at least you will have wheels.

I know how you feel, a couple of years ago some asswipe stole my car right out of our back yard. They threw out everything from the car including my two youngest dd's car seats!

They did manage to leave behind a cd and a cell phone, though.

They took my damn car through a corn field and broke out the front grill, a tie-rod, busted the windshield, tore up the interior and did all kinds of other damage to it before it was found.

I guess they thought it woud be fun to joyride in a "cop car" since it was a 1991
Chevy Caprice Classic.

This is what it looks like for those who aren't familiar with them. cop car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:1991chevroletcaprice.jpg)

To make it look even more like a cop car, it was light blue.

The funny part was, sometime between when they stole it and when they wrecked it, they put gas in it.

I hope you get your car back soon and in one piece!

Depending on your insurance, it MAY cover what's inside. Several years ago, our van was stolen in VA when we were up visiting (we live in FL), and State Farm was amazing about it - they replaced everything that was inside, without question. They also gave us how much it was worth (because they didn't find it within the 25-day limit) to buy a new van, and paid for a rental in the meantime. They found it on day....28 or 29 I think, and we used to live in VA, so one of our friends went and picked up all of our stuff that was in it (which was mostly everything, surprisingly enough), and shipped it back to us. State Farm let us keep everything they replaced also, so we had duplicates of a lot of things, which...well, we were fine with haha. Just make sure you claim it and talk to the local cops so you can work on getting your stuff back. Good luck!!

I'm sorry to hear that Kiwi. Thats not cool! I can totally understand how you would be sooooo pissed. And rightfully so. Thats awful that people feel a need to take others things, especailly when we rely on transportation so much.

What a bunch of asshats. :(

Aw, no way, Kiwi!!!! That sucks!!!! Stupid freakin' thieves...whatever the BF would do to them isn't any worse than they deserve. I'm sure you've been to the police or RCMP or whomever, and hopefully you'll get your stuff back as well - please let us know how it goes. For now, try to relax and let things work the way they need to.

God that sucks rocks Kiwi. What's the local cop's record for finding stolen cars?

My co-worker had 2 cars stolen - at the same time. She had camping gear in one and her purse in the other. They were both unlocked and had the keys in them. <shakes head> We've told her not to do that but she was raised that way, she's from New Brunswick, some tiny town near PEI. She got the cars back eventually, trashed and everything stolen. But the thieves did leave a knife and a different stereo system in one car. One was found out at Falling Rock, a local hang out for beer swilling teens, and the other was found a half block away from my parent's house. Her purse was found supposedly on the railroad tressle over Rapid Creek with the money and credit cards gone but her ID was still in it.

You poor thing!!! I can totally relate! I was working at a retail store about two years ago and when I went on my 15 minute break at 5, my car was there. My next 15 minute break at 9, it was GONE! I called my parents, hoping they were playing some kind of prank on me... Nope, it was stolen. I was SO mad, I cried. I had a lot of money saved up and it had to be spent on a new car. I was furious! What's worse, the cops had found my car the next day but didn't feel the need to let me know until a week later when I had already bought a new car!! It was a really bad situation. I hope they find your car and you won't need to buy a new one. And that's really the dumps about your groceries and Christmas presents. I hope your insurance CAN pay for it. :(

Kiwi, that sucks. At least you got the car back. Most times, stolen cars are never found, or recovered as "totally destroyed." That is, they've been wrecked, torched, or used in other crimes.

So far, my car's been broken into twice. First time, all that was taken was my parking pass. Second time, the perp didn't even get into the car. Rather than simply smash the window, he succeeded in forcing the glass down about an inch, and totally wrecking the power winder mechanism in the process. That bastard cost me about $300 in repairs

One of my other cars, the rusty '87 Tempo, seemed to be immune to theft. It didn't look too bad on the outside--shiny paint, but rusty underneath. However, towards the end of its life, I didn't really care what happened to it. I was getting rid of the car before I left for college. Little did I know that it was going to destroy itself a few months later when the engine blew up, but that's another story. Anyway, the car was never locked, and sometimes I'd leave the windows down when parking it. Once, I even think I left the keys in it. Oops. However, someone tried to break into it...by forcing the passenger door lock out of the panel. I don't know why they simply didn't try the handle first...

The only family member I know who's lost a car like that was my aunt. At the time, she had a rather nice Nissan 240SX. Bright red, mint, etc. She woke up one morning to find that someone had swiped the car from outside her Washington, DC-area condo. It was found about a month later--when the kids who had taken it were using it, got busted for speeding. They'd fitted an expensive stereo, security system, etc. However, it didn't stop there...earlier that week, the local Nissan dealer was asking her if she'd thought about trading the car in. Coincidence? We thought not...until it was revealed that someone at the dealership was caught making (and taking home) keys for some cars! Since there was no glass at the scene, and no marks on the car, whoever did it obviously had a key and knew what they were doing.

Oh, Kiwi...

I'm so glad! I'm sad your car was gone, but damn glad it's back!

Can you afford a remote start/ alarm system? It might be worth looking into.

Hugs and well wishes
