damn tissues
anyways, we have a two day sale this week, sunday and monday. but it was only for 3 items. one of them was our brand of kleenex, 2/$1.00.

we had gotten at least 15 cases in for it, and all were gone by the time i got in monday( 230), we weren't doing any substitutions or rain checks because of the 2 day sale price.

so i got this gem

me::wave:
oh: old hag
of: old fart

o.h. comes to find me and is looking for the tissues, this was at least 2 hours after they had sold out. i go over with her to look and boom, they're gone. she asks what im going to do...i told her per managers orders no rain checks and no substitutions, i told her that they had been flying off the shelves (almost literally)

o.h.: well what am i going to do? im here on the 2nd day and you're out
me: i repeat that i cannot substitute or write a rain check per manager

o.h. asks for manager but hes gone (of course) and i tell her it was just me in charge for the night

o.h.: well im not leaving til this is validated
o.f. shows up: this flyer is false advertising (pointing to tissues)
me: give the same schpeel( how is it spelled?) about the damned tissues. at least he wasnt giving me attitude and left it at that.

o.h. still isnt giving up on the tissues and i cave in to giving her a rain check. shes asks for manager again, and again i tell her its me, managers gone. she gave the whole im here its only the second day speech, but lady it was 110 count tissues for 50 cents and everyone was buying the limit of 8 at a time. you shouldve gotten there earlier, or if you had been nicer to me i would've given you the rain check much earlier

she left and another customer came up to me asking about it, be she was cool about the situation, and then i had remembered a woman had tried to buy 10 earlier and there were actually 2 or 3 sitting behind the registers. so i gave them to the nice customer, making sure old hag was gone and not going to bite my head off. i was scared of this little old lady, had a nasty attitude and my c.w. agreed. she says shes coming in tomorrow morning to get them (if we even get them in delivery, which we probably wont)

Wow, this one has all the classics.

"What am I going to/supposed to do?" - STFU and deal with it.

"This is false advertising!" - No it isn't. People bought the product already. STFU and deal with it.

And as always: "I demand to speak to a manager because you didn't tell me what I wanted to hear." Go away.

We get people asking for rain checks at the wholesale club, on the last day of a week-long special offer or whatever on some item.

As I understand the policy at the club, if we didn't get the merchandise in due to a shipping problem or something similar, we'll issue a rain check.

If, however, we had plenty of the merch in stock when the sale went live, and we simply sold out of it, then the rain check people were SOL.

Doesn't stop the suck from happening anyway, but sometimes it can shut them down early.

its like the people who come in on saturday nights, the last day of sale, and get all pissy about being out of stock, sorry you had a week to get here

Oh wow did that ever happen all the time where I used to work.

They think if it's in the ad, we should have infinite stock.

We had a 3 day sale with RC products 6 pk 16.9 oz bottles, buy two get three free. Well, the sale ran Sat, Sun and Mon...we don't issue rain checks on three day, two day or Super Saturday sale ads. We ran out and the distributor ran out so they couldn't supply us with any more (there are a total of 7 Meijers within a 25 mile radius of us, so there was quite a demand). Of course we also had the problem of people circumventing the "one offer per transaction" rule by doing multiple transactions and walking out with whole cartloads of soft drinks. If it said, "One per customer" we could enforce it better.
I was working the Service Desk and I got cussed out by several people who wanted rain checks...one woman kept poking her finger on the ad yelling, "It doesn't say 'No Rainchecks' in the ad" and another guy who asked for a raincheck. When I told him "no rainchecks" he asked why...I told him that it was a corporate rule and that I would get in trouble if I wrote him a raincheck. He wrote down, "Refused to honor ad" and wrote down my name...he said he was filing a complaint with the state Attorney General..that he had turned in a couple of other stores and they had been investigated. I said, "Blame the customers who ignore the limits and walk out with whole cartloads when there is a limit of 5 per transaction." He said, "No, I blame Meijer...if they advertise something they should have plenty in stock to meet demand!" He said he didn't blame me for doing my job (fine, if you don't blame me then why the HELL did you just write down my name???).
After another customer came up and asked to see the manager, our SDIC tells him that corporate had authorized us to write rain checks on that one item since the distributor had also run out and we wouldn't have any in til Friday. He told me that it had come down earlier that day and that our Lines Lead knew about it but didn't pass it on before she left. Thanks to her, those of us working the Service Desk had to deal with abuse from customers who wanted rain checks. Service Desk should have been informed first thing since we are the ones who have to issue the rain checks!

Isn't this why the phrase "limited to stock on hand" was written?

sarasquirrel, I know what drug store you work for (I love the ECB). I have an email from Corporate, you're supposed to write rainchecks for ALL items and even minus the ECB when advertised. I have lots of rainchecks for items. Like a 8.99 item minus $8.99 ECB = free.

In the UK every advert and promotion has the magic words "subject to availability". So as long as the store originally had at least one they are fine (not sure what would happen if they never had one)

But Whinnnne didn't you order mooooooooore? You gnuuuuuuuu they were going to selllllllll so fast !!!!!!!!!!!!!11111!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a sale itemmmmmmm!

BTW - that was irritating even to me to write it, but I've witnessed it first hand (dumbass SCs). Still don't know how the cashier kept from slugging the b****.

I have yet to meet a customer who actually can understand the concept of STA when they realllllly wannnnnt itttt! Unless it's tickets to a concert they want to attend and then they're willing to wait in line for 2 to 3 days. Otherwise - hey - last day of a sale on TP, I'll just yell at the cashier because I couldn't be bothered to go earlier in the week!

We actually have a bet going at work that the day the signal converts we'll have customers claiming they had no idea it was happening, what are they to do, blah blah, blah. Even though it has been advertised for a year and a half:rolleyes:

oh boy! :hides:

well at least now we have a code we can write on rainchecks so that we aren't writing "free" on them. customer pays sale price on item, and then like they normally would during the sale get their ecb on their receipt, looks less sketchy on our part
