View Full Version : What's my job title?

I'm trying to update my resume and don't know what to call my current job title. I'm working in office moving/installations right now; officially I'm a general labourer but that sounds like crap and doesn't reflect what I do. To summarize, my duties are:

-filling out daily work reports
-meeting with clients to go over jobs and projects, direct liason between client and company president
-supervisor on large projects
-post project "do all", find and fix anything wrong, handle any and all issues
-co-ordinate projects, check plans and set wheels in motion

and of course mostly the work of the company - moving crap, installing furniture, driving the truck.

The most impressive thing I can think of to use is supervisor, but considering that for about 90% of the time, the only person I'm supervising is myself, I don't think that would go over very well in an interview.

So what can I call myself that reflects what I do but will stand up to a BS test?

Project Manager. You work on the "project" but you also run things.

Well... I don't know what your title should be, but I would not recommend calling yourself Project Manger. That would be a little hard to pull of. Especially since PM is also a degree that you can earn and work for a multitude of companies under contract.

Maybe go to a career place or whatever they're called. I mean, it's their job to figure that stuff out.

I'd be a little careful about that too. Sometimes management gets a little annoyed over titles we give ourselves. No sense in possibly doing that.

Why not ask you boss? Tell you're not looking to leave but it would be nice to have a fancy title to go along with your extended responsibilities. He might go for it because it's a lot cheaper to hand out titles than raises.

Chief Executive Officer (in charge of diddly-squat)?

I like Project co-ordinator, if seems the most accurate. And hey, it's just my resume that this goes on, stretches and lies are the expected normal.

Thanks guys.
