Got back from a clinic earlier today. I sprained my back playing hide and seek with my daughter on Tuesday. Didn't think much of it, cuz it usually feels better the next day.
Turns out, I am getting old. Three days later (Friday) my lower back is still killing me. So I go to the closest clinic, pay $100 out-of-pocket, miss a day of work (Dr. orders), and pay almost $70 (again, out-of-pocket -no insurance) for two prescriptions of pain pills that are NOT helping the pain.

They are the generics. I am on Nabumetone (brand name Relafen) and Cyclobenzaprine (brand name Flexeril).

These pills are not doing anything for my pain. Nothing. It's like I've just taken two Tylenol.

My back is still spasming and feels tight at a knot. I haven't slept well since Monday night. I am tired, cranky, missed a day of work, and paid close to $200 to ease the pain, to no avail.

Can I call the clinic and get a different Rx? Do I call the pharmacy and explain what is happening? Any chance of a refund for the pills I have left over (I just got the Rx today. Only took one pill each- one in A.M. other in P.M.)?

Vicodin has always worked extremely well for me in the past. Can I get changed over to that?

Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to be a SC at either of these places.
And no, I am NOT dependent on any pain killers.

Thanks!

I stayed away from the prescriptions part of the pharmacy for the most part but still had to deal with some of it anyway. From what I know, I didn't think we are able to do refunds for prescriptions. Unless a person was given the wrong prescription, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't do one. Of course, I'm not sure what all pharmacies do. Best to just give the pharmacy a call and ask. Can't hurt.

Maybe you have tight butt muscles. LOL!!

When my back started to ache and hurt the doctor prescribed me Flexoril and Lodine and it really worked. I only took it at night before bed so I did go to sleep in the middle of the day. But my coach told my that I have tight butt muscles.

If you need something stronger, call your doctor. The pharmacy cannot do anything even if they wanted to. They need the doctors permission to increase anything.

The nabumetone is an anti-inflammatory, and the flexeril is a muscle relaxer. It depends on the pharmacy, but in general no, we cannot take prescriptions back. We make exceptions in the case of a misdispensed drug at our pharmacy.

Call the doctor 1st and let them know you haven't gotten any relief. The vicodin will only work on the pain, so they may call that in to supplement what you are already taking, or perhaps may up you to a stronger muscle relaxer like Skelaxin (spendy) or switch you to a different type like a benzodiazapene (like ativan or valium).

I had a muscle spaz in my back, and the damn thing wouldnt stop.

I went to the ER and they (Drs there) gave me an injection in my bum of I think...Demerol...

Yeah, they gave me the anti-puke pill. Demerol has that effect.

I slept, the muscle forgot its job, and I woke up feeling good.

If the spaz continues, try the ER.
