I hardly ever get sick, but when I do, it's an adventure.

About a week and a half ago, I caught a cold. (Thanks -- you know who you are.) It's the first one I've had in years. And it was just a cold cold... not even a fever or anything... very typical as these things go.

Somewhere during the coughing & sneezing, sneezing & weezing I pulled a muscle in my side. Just a little thing... but somewhere around Thursday, I was totally in pain. On Friday, I didn't think it could possibly get any worse. On Saturday, I found out Friday was just a preview.

I finally went to the doctor. Turned out it is just a pulled muscle... but done in the typically overboard TNT way -- about as bad as one can pull something and in exactly the worst possible place. (And because of it, I'm running a risk of developing pneumonia, but that's another story).

So, he gave me some Vicodin and told me to take one or two. I got home and took two. Within a half an hour, I was able to breathe without pain -- and felt decidely mellow besides.

And then I started to hallucinate. As if that wasn't bad enough, the Friend of Widows and Orphans who's nursing me through this panicked over it. So, I'm dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before while simultaneously trying to keep my friend from losing her mind over my losing my mind. Shucks... that's the ingredients for a successful party.

At any rate, I called the doctor this morning. His advice. "Um... try taking just one." Wow. 20 years of schooling and that's the best you can do?

What I really need to do is sleep... but in a few hours the town's Halloween parade is going to start... hours and hours of marching bands... right under my bedroom window.

It was just a simple headcold... thanks again (you know who you are).

I'll trade you my pills (I pulled a back muscle too) for your Vicodin.
They won't make you hallucinate. Hell, they just work for me.
But they may work for you!

Sometimes those do that. Perhaps ask him about a different narcotic, like maybe percocet or darvocet.
The bummer with the percocet is that you are going to have to drive to his office to get the script. He can call the darvocet in.

I got to go back anyhow tomorrow. Hopefully something that works but doesn't make me feel like crap in the process.
