I just read a post about an idiot SC who felt a woman's pregnant belly and was surprised when he got punched in the mouth for it. This reminded me . . .

My roomie and I had a guy waltz into our apartment.

Ok, I should clarify. We know the guy. All too well. He moved here from Amsterdam about a year ago (hence the nickname), my roomie met him about 5 weeks ago and he fell absolutely in love with her. She, however, didn't feel the same way. But he was so sure he could make her like him that he started calling her constantly and coming over uninvited. He would wait for our other friend, who he was also "in love" with, outside her classes and would wait outside her door for minutes upon minutes if she didn't answer.

So one day, he knocked on our door. I looked through the peephole and saw it was him, so I ignored it. my roomie was studying and I was prepaing for a very important certification exam. He knocked twice. Then he walked in. I yelled at him for it, but his justification? "I knocked twice and nobody answered so I tried the door and it was open." :wtf:

We (me, roomie, and our friend) went to the police about him. Turns out he has a record because he "hugged a girl."

He'll probably be kicked out of school.

I don't think he's dangerous; just stupid beyond all reason.

I don't know if it's his culture that makes him take these liberties or if he's just an idiot. Either way, we now keep our door locked 24/7 and carry mace with us.

Wow...just, wow...what a guy...

Just a question about the title-why do you call him Amsterdam? Is he Dutch? Or is there a backstory?

Yeah, he's from Amsterdam, which is why I wonder if it's just his culture that makes him think he can just waltz right in.

Wow what a creepy guy! Maybe a restraining order would be a good idea? Although a piece of paper doesn't really protect much, but it'll kick his ass if he ever breaks what it says ;)

In the state of Texas you can only get a restraining order if you feel your life or possessions are in danger. We don't, so we just got 3 counts of "Criminal Trespassing" on him. Good enough; he knows that if he comes near any one of us ever again we have full rights to call the police.

The Dutch culture is fairly practical and somewhat conservative, from the few Dutch people I've met. It's a very nice city, if you can avoid the urine-stinking alleys. I would imagine that any Dutch person hearing of this would be shocked.

So, Raps . . . what you're saying is that this guy just thinks too much of himself and is an idiot?

Something along those lines, yes.

Barging in like that somewhere where you are not welcome is a good way to get a gun in your face in many places in the US. (My town included. Unless I let you in, stay out.) Though since you are on campus, it would have to be a baseball bat.

We have a friend who lives down the breezeway from us (all us buddies just live so close together . . . it's great!) and he plays football for our school. So he's a big guy. Very big. And very intimidating. We kept his number on the fridge between the walk-in and going to the cops so that if this guy came over again, we could call him for protection. We don't need guns . . . just an SHSU football player!

Yeesh. I probably would've shot the guy first and asked questions later.

Amen and it Texas you'd never be tried for it either. Maybe Amsterdam needs to be introduced to the southern concept of "Well yer'Honer he needed killin."
One more thing lock yer danged door.

Oh yeah. Our door stays locked all the time now. Our friend from upstairs said she saw him today as she was walking home and he shot her a nasty look. That's all he's able to do without the police getting involved, though! <insert imaginary "point and laugh" smiley>

I guess it's also helpful in that you're not far from the electric chair.

Tell him in Texas we have the death penalty and we use it. Recently we installed an express lane.

Tanasi, I applaud your Blue Collar Comedy reference.

I think he's too stupid for the electric chair, though. I think he just needs a lesson in etiquitte!

Not cultural. I have a Dutch brother-in-law (married to my husband's sister), and DBIL is scrupulously polite and respectful. He's a major upgrade from her first husband, IMO. :D

This guy's just your basic model idiot/stalker/nutjob, which you'd probably find in any culture.
