I need help with my internet explorer. I have IE 6 and it will not work. This is an odd problem, so please bear with me.

When I click on my desktop IE icon, I keep getting connecting to site and then 'The page cannot be displayed'. But when I go into my start menu > programs > Windows explorer and click on Internet explorer in the menu, IE will pull up.

I have checked my internet options, cleared the cash and the files. I have checked all of the settings and nothing is out of the ordinary.

I have also checked my firewall and it states that IE is allowed.

I have gone to Run in the start menu and Pulled up the IP configuration and changed the settings there (Mediacom taught me how to do this, and it used to work), but the settings will not hold anymore. If I change it and immediatly pull up IE with the desktop icon, it will work, but when I close it out and try again the setting go back to the PPP adapter and will not longer work.

I use Firefox for most things, but my email (Thunderbird) uses IE for certain things.

I am at a loss on what to do, I have tried everything, but am stumped. I cannot use IE7 cause i have Win98SE and it is not compatable. It may be awhile before I get me a new computer, so for the time being I have to work with what I have.

I am totally at a loss of what to do here. http://jumi.lut.fi/~junousia/hymiot/think/vaikeapaatos.gif http://www.connected-moms.com/community/images/smiles/icon_huh.gif http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/2403/idea3el.gif

That's actually quite strange. My first thought was "home page" was set to something that don't work no more.

Since you said your settings won't hold, I'm going to guess it's been "protected".

***DO NOT DO IF YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR WIN CD and NETWORK DRIVERS***
I would say, uninstall your network drivers (basically remove all the stuff listed). Reboot it, should detect on boot up and let you "install" the network again. Thus letting you change your settings (one would hope)
