Okay, so, we went to Lowes (think Home Depot), and while he was drooling over a new barbeque grill, I went and got a soda. Since the surgery, I start broiling when I'm moving around. First thing Dad does when I get there is take a swill of soda and then use the bottle to guestimate if the grill would hold a chicken standing up (lovely tradition, you stick an open can of beer up a chicken's butt and cook it).
We came back home, I set MY soda, which **I** paid for, on the table and spent some time with Spot and Angel in my temporary bedroom. I came out, grabbed MY soda, which ***I*** paid for, and sat down on the couch.
Sip.
Me:DADDDD!!!!!!
Mom:What?
Me:He put rum in my soda!
Mom:He did not. He was cleaning some arrows, and might have got some chemicals on the rim.
Me:HE PUT RUM IN MY SODA!
Dad comes out.
Dad:No! That's mine!
Me:Now it is! You're supposed to put rum in COKE, not ***MY*** Pepsi!
Mom:He did not put rum in your soda!
Me: He did to! He just said he did!
Then my dad and I had to have a discussion on the ownership of said soda.
I ***HATE*** RUM!
(It leaves more for idrinkarum)

TA you can never win these type of arguments nor should you try. Just think back to all the sacrifices he and your Mom made/make for you. Now has the guilt settled in? Go forth and be ashamed.
Be glad for the rum, as I tend to chew and spit in untended soda cans.
I don't suppose your dad would be interested in adopting me? I promise to leave soda around often!:D

I would jog, but the ice would fall out of my glass.

Does your dad ask why the rum has gone?

I like Rum... 151 and pineapple juice go well together
While your dad shouldn't swipe your soda, it's a battle you'll never win. Trust me...my dad and I have a history of "who swiped my leftovers."

You should try 151 with gatorade. Not too bad, smell is hidden pretty well. I don't know, sometimes rum is good and sometimes it's horrible. Maybe it's just the Bacardi I like. But I've learned one really important lesson so far my freshman year of college. The amount of food in your stomach plays a huge part in getting drunk. A quarter of a bottle of Bacardi 151 on an empty stomach is a BAD idea. But somehow I manged about 1/3 the bottle on a full stomach...Right, this is where I say drinking is bad and not meant for the underaged...

With my dad, it was wine. I've always got a bottle of wine open that I use in cooking - good stuff, not cheap crap. One day, I'm making my classic pasta sauce:
"Dad, where did that bottle of wine go?!"
"Oh...I drank it. I'll get you another one!" :D
He did get me another one eventually, but it was a cab sav, and I HATE that stuff (it it wrong for the cook to have a sip too? ). So I let him drink that one, and got a merlot later. How long do you think the new bottle lasted? -_-"

Wow, I wish my parents and I had those kind of exchanges. When I was 20 my dad mentioned something about making margaritas for New Year's, looked at me, and changed his mind. Sheesh.
So imagine my surprise when my dad and I took tequila shots together at last summer's family reunion.
I was even more surprised when my 84-year-old wheelchair-ridden great uncle took two.
Of course, he was in the Navy, so . . .

Yea, I've gotten pretty smashed off of 151 Bacardi, Greenday. I learned never to drink that stuff on an empty stomach
Oh, and as a responsible adult I have to tell you that you should wait til your 21 to be drinking!
Back On Topic- Thankfully, my dad never swiped my alky...it's kind of fun being old enough to have cherry shots with him, though. :D
I think I'll post some good recipes in a new thread...the holidays are approaching and I'm sure some of us could use some good cheer.

My first reaction to the title of this thread was, well, aren't all dad's weird? My dad is!
My dad and I don't share a love of liquor, but we share a great taste for beer. :D He'll call on his way home from work and ask my mom what kind of wine she wants for dinner (usually a bottle of economy chenin blanc) and what kind of beer I want and he and I will share the beer. Usually we'll just drink Pacificos or Coronas but occassionally he'll go out and buy a 4-pak of Boddington's which is as thick as a 6-pack.
BTW, I'm in my late 20's, but the very first time I got drunk was Christmas Eve when I was 16. My grandfather (my mom's dad) was sitting as the kitchen table, just sort of hanging out and sipping tequila like only old Mexican men can. I sat down just to talk to him and he poured me a tumbler with some tequila straight (no ice) for me to sip. I'd never so much as tasted tequila before that but I thought what the heck? It's Christmas, there are a couple of dozen family members around, and I'm with my grandfather. After about 45 minutes I had to go use the restroom. As soon as I got up I met the floor...and my grandfather was laughing at me. I had a hangover Christmas Day and my mom was mad at my grandfather for the holidays. Oh well.

(is it wrong for the cook to have a sip too? ). So I let him drink that one,
Hey, it worked for culinary goddess Julia Childs.

Yea, I never understood why, in the U.S., 18 is old enough to vote and sign up for the draft... but you're not old enough to have a beer! Sorry, you need to be 21 for that!

Yep, he steals my beer, too. Well, he asks if he can have some (unlike the wine!), and being a good daughter (i.e. too bloody soft), I say yes. Then:
"Dad, where's my beer?!"
I have yet to find something he doesn't like. I might get some sweet Strongbow next time, since I don't think he's tried that, but knowing my luck, he'll get a taste for it.
Or I can wait until I get to England, and go and get some of my Uncle Pete's home-made cider. He makes it, and takes it down the pub to give away. They call it 'Pete's Petrol', since it tastes like rocket fuel. But still, if it keeps my dear father's theiving hands away...:D
Von spritz for ze chicken, von spritz for ze cook!
One for you, one for me! See, it works, and it's sanctioned by professionals! My old boyfriend is a chef, I should ask if he applies this principle...:D
