Alright, so we've got a pretty big smorgasborg of people here. What are your 'talents'?

I'll share mine if you share yours :D

Well, I can roll my tongue, wiggle my ears, "forget" how much I hate tequila, and turn any conversation obscene in under two lines.

Your turn!

I can do the splits easily.
I too can make a conversation obscene in under two lines.
Somehow I can remember a bunch of strange quotes.

I can shake exactly two aspirin out of a bottle pretty much every time.

I can roll my tongue too. Yay for genetics!

I can do the splits easily.

splits....like one leg in front and one in back (or straddles....one leg out to either side)? Yeouch!!

Your turn!

Alright Alright...

I can't do splits, but I can put my legs over my shoulders (like the backs of my knees resting on the tops of my shoulders...) and 'walk'. It's more like teetering from my feet (in front) to my hands (in back) and moving that way. I hear it's quite...odd looking. I used to be able to put both my feet behind my head, but now I can get one back there if I'm stretched out. I'm sure I could get both of them back there again with some stretching for a week or so though.

I can also roll my tongue, and am incredibly good at acquiring bruises from colliding with inanimate, heavy objects. I walked into a wall the other day at work - I forgot to turn sideways to get past it, and crash. I'm now sporting quite the bruise from it on my thigh.

As far as "true" talents are concerned, I'm quite musically gifted. When I was in middle school (12 or so), I went into a music store with my best friend and her family. They let us screw around on whatever instruments we wanted to - including reed instruments like clarinets and saxophones. They kept giving me instruments to try since I could get a good sound out of all of them. I actually played tuba during this time (I was about 5'4 and MAYBE 100 lbs soaking wet...you couldn't see me behind the thing lol), so I was familiar with the mechanics of music, but reeds and strings are an entirely different ballgame than brass. I've also been 'tested' to have about a 3.5 octave range, not warmed up and without any training. Well, nothing major anyhow. I took a voice class my 2nd year in college, but that was more for fun because I felt like it. The teachers were quite surprised at my technical ability related to my lack of training. Not to mention the fact that I could actually sing :)

I just remembered a few things...

I can play the guitar quite well
I have an unusual endurance rate, meaning that I can run 10 miles and feel like I ran 2.
I know how to use swords and various weapons.
I can impersonate people quite well when it comes to voices.

As for splits, it's kind of front and back and straddle. 5 years of martial arts will make anyone very flexible. There was one guy that I swear was born with rubber in him, he could do all sorts of things. I can also do the splits in the air too.

I build things like this. This is a 1981 Nissan Skyline 2000 Turbo GT ES that I built from an old Tamiya kit I found in the hobby shop's junk box. Even though I've been building models for more than 20 years, I'm by no means an expert. I'm still learning new and better way to do things. Most of my collection is older machinery--everything from an 1886 Daimler-Benz to a 1990s Jaguar XJ220. I don't just do cars--I'm into HO scale trains as well.

I'm not sure why, but I'm the only one in the family that ended up with the 'creative' abilities. My brothers, and even my parents aren't into that sort of thing. I do know, that I got some of my mechanical abilities from my dad's side of the family. As I was digging into the family tree one night, I found out that one of Grandpa's brothers had a garage years ago...and built a car from stuff he had lying around. From what I heard, it went pretty well.

I can roll my tongue, play a wide variety of musical instruments without being told how, and I can turn a convo obscene in less than two lines.

But, as for stuff not mentioned, I can remember a lot of random facts and equations. I can do decently high mathmatical calculations in my head. And I can name any element from its symbol and also a lot of their atomic weights, and some other info on some elements.

I am a walking encyclopedia of random trivia.

I read (fiction, not textbooks) faster than anyone I have ever met.

And, (drumroll) according to my TA and student teacher, I am a very good kindergarten teacher!

Unfortunately, it takes me at least three, sometimes four sentences to turn a conversation obscene, so I'm not in Spiffy's league at all.

I can play the bass trombone, read very quickly, clasp my hands behind my back by going over one shoulder, I test very well without needing to study. I can remember random facts and quotes, and I can make almost anyone laugh.
Also, I'm really tall, so I can reach things on high shelves :p
I'm a very good speller, with almost no need for the spell check feature of my word processor, and I have a very large vocabulary. I can also discuss various aspects of philosophy, life, and which video game system is best and why :D

Let's see here, I have a decent musical ability, playing piano and singing. I have a high recall for odd trivia and quotes from movies. I used to be very flexible before I hurt my back, the trainer at the gym told me one time "the only people more flexible than you are gymnasts and dancers."

My most impressive talent however, is this one.....

I can paint my own toenails the day before giving birth to a 10 lb. 9 oz baby girl (just ask any woman who's ever been pregnant, that is a true talent)

I can lick my septum

You know, I know of a lot of men who would pay good money to see you do that.

On a related note, I, too, can spout random facts about useless subjects, as recently seen in the "Random Facts" thread.

Oh, that is so wrong! You should be playing World of Warcraft!!! ;)

Lets see. I don't know what kind of talent I would really have. I am able to spout out a little too much information about late 80s rock music...all the band members of certain bands, the year the CD's came out......other than that.....I really can't think of anything else.

Maybe I'm talentless. :(

Another tongue-roller here. :)

And another bottom-dweller as well - able to make a dirty joke in a single bound. (Spiffy, you should have been in the chat room yesterday...one line?? I took a 2-word reply and fired off a gutterbuster that made heads spin!)

Of course, I have practical talents as well, but those aren't as much fun. ;)

I can bend my fingers (except my thumbs) all the way back to touch the back of the hands. It's really freaky and I haven't anyone else that can do this.

As for music....I played the clarinet for 6 years all through middle school and high school. During that time my ear was PERFECT. I could name the key of just about any movement or musical piece I heard. It was weird, but my ear was just that in tune. I can't do that anymore since I don't play the clarinet anymore and I'm not involved in music so I guess it's not really a talent I currently have.

I also have a talent for knowing random facts. I have a "photographic" memory though, so I think that has everything to do with my remembering everything I read. I literally see the page of books, magazines, newspapers, even webpages, etc., in front of me when I'm trying to recall a pertinent fact. It's weird. It's just me.

I can also read a book a day. I regularly read about 3-4 books a week. I don't read fiction. I'm more of a history book and true crime buff. I can read just about anything non-fiction in one sitting if I have an uninterrupted span of time.

I can work out sewing patterns from looking at pictures of clothing (you know - if I sew that bit to there, gather that, sew here, here, and here, it should look like that!).

At the age of 9 or 10, I had a university-level reading age.

I started year one at the age of 4.

I can sight-read sheet music - as in, take a piece of music, sit down and play it off the sheets without prior knowledge of it. I don't know if that's really a talent, since the whole point of sheet music is that it tells you how to play the piece, but my teacher was impressed. :p

I read pretty fast - I've been known to finish an entire novel in a single day.

I'm a damn good cook, particularly when it comes to baking.

I'm good at mimicry, in writing and artwork. I used to amuse my art teacher by doing copies of Van Gogh, Monet and Brian Froud pieces. And I once made my English teacher laugh with a Biggles satire. :)

I can decorate cakes.

I am a good cook and baker.

I'm great with word puzzles. Sometimes I look at a scrambled word and just know what the actual word is.

I read pretty fast, and can read upside down.

I am good at trivia, but don't ask me where I left my important invoices about 5 minutes ago. :p

I am pretty good at problem solving and troubleshooting, even with minimum details. (Which is probably the reason everybody at work seems to think I am the person to go to when there is a problem.)

MystyGlyttyr

What with the Asperger's and all, I've always had the problem with not being able to zone out background noise. However, I started working on this ability, and so long as I'm not otherwise stressed, you can plunk me down in the middle of three or four seperate conversations, and I can hear, understand, and repeat parts back of all of them.

What I call my "mutant power" is some sort of weird super adrenaline. When something happens to scare/excite me, I trip into this weird brainless mode where I just react without any conscious thought, and apparently get stronger and more durable than I would think I could. Things I have done while in this brain-way are:

1. Stopping a Lumina that was rolling backwards down a hill before it could collide with a car behind me.

2. At the age of 11, catching my 190 pound grandmother with one arm when she fell off the porch.

3. "Catching" a knife with one hand (cut my palm but it didn't go in my ribs!)

4. Picking up and carrying a 250 pound classmate up a flight of stairs to get her to her insulin medicine. (Yes, it would have been easier to get the medicine and bring it to her, but like I told you, no conscious thought.)

5. Swerve said Lumina (it's my parents) around a van that had screeched to a halt VERY suddenly, bare inches off his bumper, dodging two cars in the other lane, whipping it back into the original lane while avoiding the dog that the van had stopped for, then getting the car into a bank parking lot and stopping. Meanwhile, the car behind me HAD rear-ended the van...there was simply not enough time to stop. My mother was in the car with me at the time and looked at me like I'd grown three heads, while it took me five minutes to even realize what had happened.

To be honest, the whole thing freaks me out a little, but I suppose it comes in handy. It's just so freaky that I call it my mutant power and let it go.

My "mutant power," as MystyGlyttyr put it, is that I seem to have a knack for video editing. Here are links to some stuff I've done:

Ham on Wry---Here (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1009358125866637429&q=ham+on+wry) & Here (http://youtube.com/watch?v=vToK6Vnb3t8)

My very first video. A tribute to Chuck Jones.

Brokeback Season--Here (http://www.ifilm.com/video/2711799) & Here (http://www.ebaumsworld.com/2006/03/looneytoonsrecut.html)

A parody of the Brokeback Mountain trailers featuring.....Nah, not gonna say. just watch it and laugh your asses off.

Game B Gone: (http://youtube.com/watch?v=JyuMFG5XPUw)

This was a commercial I did for my TV production class. Every parent's dream, I'm sure.:D

Finally, here (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3569163865046943449&q=pussyfoot) is one I did at the spur of the moment. It was essentially a challenge to myself to make a video out of only one cartoon.

Enjoy!

My talents are kind of lame, but here they are...

I can play guitar rather well. I'm self-taught.
I can draw.
I can tie a cherry stem into a knot using my tongue. ;)
I'm really good at trivia.
I'm awesome at color coordination.
I am KING at mini-golf. (I'm alright at golf too)
I rule at Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005. No one can beat me.

I am incredibly awesome at holding my cool and being patient with people.

I play the piano and sing (alto) supposedly fairly well (self-taught; it's relatives and Hubby who say I sing well but I'm really too shy to sing solo for others much, especially as it's hard to find good alto solos).

I like to draw and digitally color pictures (again, self-taught). Examples here (http://ah-kaziya.deviantart.com) and here (http://kogarashi.livejournal.com/46054.html#cutid1)

Thanks to my mom's youngest two sisters teaching me the alphabet, I taught myself to read at age three by picking up a book titled Jerry (one of those "See Spot run" type books) and sounding out the words. I've been an avid reader ever since.

I can usually troubleshoot my own computer with very little trouble, despite never having a formal computer class. I can install just about any part you give me with no trouble. Yes, this includes the motherboard itself.

I can usually get myself from Point A to Point B without written directions or knowing street names, if I've been that way at least once before (even as a passenger), thanks to a visual-based memory. This also helps in remembering minor details of certain movies and conversations, based on what things looked like at the moment in question.

I am innately very good at math classes, despite despising them with a passion. I was a year ahead in math in grade school, and the only reason I got a failing quarter average one quarter was because I got lazy and stopped doing my homework. I fixed that next quarter, and got the only 99% on my Pre-Calculus final (only one student got 100%, and he was the inequivocal class geek and our valedictorian). I got a 4 on the Calculus AB AP test without really studying beforehand. (for those not in the know, that's a college-level test that I took in high school, and it's scored out of 5.)

I have a knack for getting through an English literature class without reading the books. I can read Cliff's Notes (or other similar book summaries) and BS my way through essays and finals.

I type, on average, 95 wpm.

I can goof up macaroni and cheese.*

Minor "Talents": I can reach items on the top shelf, bend my thumbs down to touch my arms, roll my tongue, wiggle my ears, make my shoulder blades stick out almost perpendicular to my back, and lay my belly flat against the floor/bed while sitting Indian-style (except for right now, 'cause I'm pregnant).

*This is actually part of my super-weakness that I like to tell to other people who gush over how well I sing/play piano/draw/etc. I can hardly cook worth beans, have goofed up or made a severe mess of at least half of what I've attempted to cook, and need to have directions in front of me for recipes. I have not inherited my mother's ability to guess-measure or experiment with food and have it turn out wonderful. My oldest-younger sister inherited that talent. Despite this, however, I've learned that if I (unintentionally) make a mess while cooking, the food comes out edible and often even good. I've also learned that cooking scrambled eggs or some experimental variant of home fries exempts me from this weakness.

Yeah, I'm a soprano - also self taught. And alto solos are incredibly difficult to find - i agree. I'm most comfortable in a high alto/low soprano range, so i generally just transpose it (in my head lol) to make it singable. I can also handle key changes without an issue and somehow manage to change keys while just singing whatever's in my head - regardless of whether there's music to guide me through it. And I DON'T sing for people - not quite sure why. The only time people get to hear me is if I'm within earshot (which I'm pretty much careful to not be) or if they walk in on me singing a tune.

I play the piano a bit, and can sing as well, although i probably think im better than i am ;)

I can finish a book in a day, and usually read 2-3 a week.

I also have a good memory for anything scripted - standup shows, movies and song lyrics. I can hear a song on the radio i havent heard for years and suddenly find myself singing along.

And for good measure, i can roll my tongue as well :D :p

I can belch on demand, which is a talent that was never really appreciated, especially back in high school. I remember letting this one loud one rip in front of this girl, and she started laughing hysterically. Once she stopped laughing, her expression changed to one of anger, and she reached over and smacked me on the shoulder really hard. Still haven't figured that one out.

I have another talent I can't really mention, or show off as much as I'd like to. ;)

I'm told I can sing quite well.

Once I started on some building projects, I found out I'm also fairly good at that. I started small -- a few shelves in my last apartment, and worked up to finishing the entire basement in the house where I live now. I actually come from a long line of builders on my father's side, but up until I gave it a try myself, I thought it had skipped a generation.

I'm good with computers, which is a good thing, considering that's my job. But I've also learned how to build and repair them, which my son has also picked up on. Right now, it looks like that's the path he's going to take, which is good. Programmers are needed, but so are people who know how to fix the things when the programmers get frustrated and beat the crap out of them.

That's a very useful skill to have, as I learned this semester. If I ever decide to take two literature units in one semester again, I want you to shoot me, OK? I mean, I read pretty fast, but 16 books in 13 weeks is asking a bit much. O_o

I can launch balls off the pool table. Yeah, I did it THREE times at my Pastor's house (they don't care, thank goodness). It was quite amusing. They kept trying to get me to get the balls in the holes, but nope...I managed to launch it. They were astounded lol.

I'm a dancer, a singer, and an actress. (If it's performance related, I probably do it).

I'm a writer (working on being a PUBLISHED writer) and yes, I consider that a talent.

I'm really good with accents -- let me hear someone for about 5 minutes and I can do their accent dead on.

I don't get hangovers, no matter how drunk I get (I've been told that's a talent).

Other than that? I dunno. I'm sure I'll think of some more.

And I don't drink much so it's not that I don't get hangovers because my body's used to it. I've just never gotten one (and there have been a couple of REALLY REALLY drunk nights). *shrug* people hate me for it.

Oh! I've also been told I'm a chameleon (sp?) cause I can fit in with any kind of crowd of people. Give me ten minutes in a room and I can be whatever the crowd would want me to be. I'd probably be a decent thief.

I've also got the chameleon talent, I can scrape a three course meal out of the dregs of my pantry, can't sing to save my life, but I make up for it with a "talent for the vernacular", in hubby's words (i.e. I can unleash a string of verbal abuse that has reduced large angry men to tears. I use my powers only for good, though. :D ). I've got more than a few talents related to my second job, but only a select few are all that interested in hearing about them, I'm guessing.
Oh, and I can clear a room with a well placed fart. Completely silently. On command.

I can and have done that.

I can read upside down.

I'm a fast reader if left alone.

I was reading while sitting next to my oldest son who was sitting in his stroller (he was about a year old at the time) and reached up and smacked a ball away that would have hit him dead in the face, all without looking up from my book.

I can run long distances pretty fast and talk at the same time.

I can trip over invisable obstacles.

I can also roll my tongue.

I have an annoying habit of finding typos and telling about it.

I am double jointed, but not as much anymore, but getting there again.

When I walk, all my joints in my legs and feet will pop. You can hear me in the middle of the night walking the hallway. My toes will loudly pop with every footstep. It's how my daughter knows that it is me, when she cannot see me.

I have an uncanny way of remembering something that happened to me while I was still in my crib. I also can remember small insignificant things, but yet I cannot remember what I had made for dinner last night.

I can read upside down.

I can do that too! It used to annoy the people at Sylvan when I was in high school--they had to cover up the answer keys when helping me. Even now, I do it to freak out certain relatives. I'm not sure how I picked up this skill. But, according to my mother, since I taught myself to read, she's not surprised :p

All I need to turn a conversation dirty is five things, tops...a pause, then any one of the two phrases listed. Keep in mind this only works within our nerd clique, seeing that we are the only ones who truly know the meanings...
Either:
*pause*...P-nis!!...Leash!!
or
*pause*...Org-sm!!...Powder!!
(both said very snippy)
 Guaranteed to make everyone laugh.

Uh, let's see, I can get the tip of my tongue about 5mm up one nostril; I've written a 119,733-word novel in nine months for a competition amid university work, Europe tour, character buildup and sequel in the works; I can draw kind of well (art site (http://www.kingda-ka.deviantart.com)); I'm quite the trivia buff, especially about rollercoasters, epilepsy, astrology, jewellery, and useless facts about history, geography and other stuff. I can also use my chronic blunt/tactlesness to tell someone exactly what I think of them - only not when I like them, then words fail me.;)

I can spot a typo at 100 feet. (Figuratively speaking, since without my glasses I can't see 100 feet.)

I could also get drunk on half a glass of wine. If I drank wine.

I have never had a hangover either. Haven't been really drunk too often but when I have I've been fine the next morning. (If I have a migraine, though, the next morning I will feel like I drank half the liquor cabinet.)

I can hyperextend my elbows. I don't know if that's really a talent, but it grosses people out

I can roll my tongue too.

I speak English and Afrikaans, and one or two sentences in the following languages:

French, Italian, Dutch, German, Xhosa, Zulu, Sotho, Spanish, Yiddish

And I mean LITERALLY one or two sentences.

I can hum most operas having being raised on classical music, and up until the age of 21, I saw at least 2 - 3 operas a year with my parents. Such fun *nostalgic sigh*
