This was written by my brother. He has (had) a red 2006 Toyota X-Runner that had some modifications (nothing major). This happened last night: (pardon his spelling/grammar. It's legible though)

Another X down the drain
For those of us who know the seminole county area i'll explain how the crash happened.. tuscawilla and red bug lake road.. there are 3 consecutive lights close together on red bug 1. publix 2. tuscawilla intersection 3. albertsons. i was heading home from xrobber's last night and was in the left lane behind a white cavalier. the light was red at publix and we were rolling up to it at like 45, light turned green, right lane had no cars in it, left lane had a bunch, cavalier changed lanes and took off, i changed lanes behind it, was in 3rd gear goin 40 or so at this point, when i got to the red bug intersection, cavalier was already through the intersection, i was going about 55, then the cav was flying still and i was still accelerating just b/c i like to drive fast, wasn't racing some idiot or nething, he's in the right lane still, i changed to the left lane (just before it turns into 3 lanes) im going through the albertsons intersection when all i see is the cav swerving and a lumina pulling out in front of him. theres construction on the side of the road and theres a huge mound of dirt that was blocking their view coming out. so the cavalier t-boned the lumina, they both spun (cav was goin about 90-95 at point of impact) the cav ended up 100-200 ft past where the lumina and i ended up. the lumina got sent flying across all 3 lanes, i swerved into the far left lane from center, while slamming on my brakes and there was nowhere for me to go, i hit the spinning lumina (40mph or so) then end up going onto the median where theres mulch, trees, and shrubs. i had an airbag in my face and tried to avoid the trees, but evidently when my back right hopped the angle curb it jumped me into the trees. i did correct my slide after hitting the car, but i was in mulch and couldn't help with the trees. girl in the lumina went to the hospital with head and neck pain and got a right of way violation ticket, guy in cavalier got a speeding ticket and full blame for the accident and i got a totalled truck. im ok, just a lil burn on my left arm from my airbag deploying. other than that, the XRC drop kit worked awesome, its goin on my next one. i had just put it on and the alignment that we did by eye was straight and when it was towed, they towed it with front wheels on the ground. the wheels were still in alignment. that thing is amazing. if i hadn't put that on, i may have lost control b/c of the body lean. it helps a whole bunch with handling. heres some pics.

Kinda small, but this is a before picture.

I don't know what any of this means, but to give you an idea of what this truck was worth to a 19-year old college student, these are the current modifications he had on it:

CAI
fog light mod
turn signal mod
URD Short shifter
Black headlight mod
lower rear 2"
tailgate spoiler
magnaflow 4" exhaust
back-up camera

I'm slightly traumatized right now. I mean - he's my little bro! He's fine....emotionally he's OK too. He's looking at the '07s.... Boys and their toys.

Yeah, it really was a nice truck. Thank goodness for insurance. It was new - he got it in May and it had 9700 miles on it. He'll get another one.

Wow, I'm just glad he was ok. One thing about Toyotas, they take good care of their drivers.

I got rearended in my Matrix the summer before last, and it didn't feel like much, the car absorbed all the impact, but the 1 ton truck that hit me got me with enough force to totally bend the frame :(
Goodbye Neo, I still miss you....

Yeah they do! Some of you might remember my much-loved '91 Tercel got smashed up about 6 years ago. I was stopped at a light, and some dumbass in a '99 Lexus rear-ended me. Even though the only damage to my car was a smashed rear fender (plus the light and bumper), I was a bit pissed off. That was, until I saw the damage to his car! He tried to swerve at the last second...but still ended up taking out the entire front end of his nearly-new (and his *wife's* ) car!

Hey Protege -

Lexus is made by Toyota. Perhaps the swerving made the front end go more than your back? And it seems like front ends crumple more than back ends. Why is that??

I remember we wrote off a tool in a Barina (small 2-door thing), sustaining only minor damage to the front nearside and wheel arch to our Toyota Prado. Toyotas might not be the most exciting, but they sure are tough and capable.

The only thing better than getting through an accident with no major injuries is when it is the other persons fault and they have insurance. I can say that through personal experience.

Glad to hear he is OK.

Alright, so it seems that because the chick in the Lumina went to the hospital (the Lumina actually made contact with Michael - the cavalier didn't), they have to wait for the police report to get the insurance info. Now - the cav was given full blame for the crash, though the lumina also got a ticket and actually made contact. Anyone know (we've not done this before...) what the insurance companies will do? Maybe like a 60/40 deal or something? We don't really care as long as his truck gets paid for (and it WILL get paid for). Any idea how much time it'll take?

Hehe I know that :p

Many new cars are designed so the front ends (hoods, bumper, etc.) crumple up to absorb the force of impact, rather than spread it into the passenger compartment. Volvos have a well-deserved reputation for being safe cars. Both the entire front and rear end "crumple zones" were designed to withstand an impact, and prevent the passenger area from getting flattened. Those things were built like tanks.

My mother can vouch for that--shortly after buying a new 240-series wagon in '81, some idiot hit us. This fool coming towards us, ran the stop sign, hit a car in the intersection, and both slid into us. Even though the other 2 cars (a Ford Granada, and a big Chevy) were totaled, and entire side of our car was smashed, we didn't feel a thing, other than a slight jolt.

I drive a little 2-door cavy. I like doing 90-95 in it, when I'm on the turnpike and at a section where there are never cops. Very rarely will I do it though. What the hell was he thinking going that fast though on a street like that with lights on it. Even on highways, that's still pushing it. I know my car will be wrecked if I crash it. That's why I never let someone be in my car without wearing their seatbelt. If they don't, they have a 0% probability of surviving.

thegiraffe, as far as how insurance will work, the way they do it by me is whoever is to blame, pays for all damage. 100%/0% in this case.
