We lost our other cat today, the handsome fellow you see in my avatar. Trouble was 17, and his health went very suddenly downhill two days ago; dehydration, constant drooling, bad teeth and weight loss. He wasn't getting better, the prognosis wasn't good and it was his time.

He was the first cat we took in, when a neighbor who was moving out dumped him on our doorstep (their loss). He was very handsome, with a long silver tabby coat and very large gold eyes; he looked a lot like a Maine Coon Cat only much smaller (he may have been a mix). Had a pleasant cooing trill for a voice, liked to use his front paws like hands to pick up things, and was very playful, loving and affectionate towards all of us and everyone he met.

This picture was taken two years ago, when we first moved here. Yes, he also liked playing with his peoples' toy trains.

I'm sorry for your loss but 17 is a good age for cats (in fact, I think 17 is "long lifed"). At least you treated him well and he was happy with you.

I'm so sorry.
He was gorgeous.

He lived a good long life, though.

I am sorry to hear of your loss - as the others have said, 17 is a good age for a cat - and Trouble had 17 very happy years with you.

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure he's currently playing with my kitties (Snow, and Kitty). They're probably all enjoying treats and a big ball of yarn. Snow died of a heart attack in 2007, Kitty was put to sleep about 6 months earlier. Both liked to watch my model trains go around. Snow would spend hours watching the N scale stuff, but *hated* the big G scale train I'd set up under the Christmas tree LOL Kitty would watch the trains...but he'd occasionally "paw" them!

I went through exactly the same thing with my kitty back in December; I know what it's like. I'm so sorry that this friend has gone.
