I picked up my new glasses tonight with the transitional lenses in them (bifocals) and while I was sitting there, I was wondering what the big deal was, till I turned around and whoa! There is a HUGE difference between them and regular lenses.

So, while I'm getting them adjusted, the guy hands me a card with itty bitty printing on it and asks me if I can read it. Now, with my old glasses, there was no way I could read that, but with these I could read what was printed on the card.

I'm still trying to get use to them and how I have to move my head to get the different views, but I can see the stuff I couldn't before. The saleslady told me it took her 6 months to get use to hers. It is a bit hard and I may switch between these and my old glasses till I get totally use to them.

Be careful going up and down the stairs... your depth perception will be off for a while. Otherwise, welcome to the multifocal club!

Hey, glad to hear you took the big step into bifocal-ism! I fought it tooth and nail because I mistakenly believed they took you one step closer to old age. When I finally gave in and got some transitionals, I couldn't believe how much of the world I hadn't been seeing! It only took a couple of weeks to get used to. I hope your break-in period is just as brief and easy. Good luck!

My roomie has transitionals. They work really well I hear.

Did you get the progressive (noline) lenses? Those are neat because they're actually a trifocal... you lose your peripheral vision, but most of my patients seem to like them.

But you'll be making it harder on yourself if you make it a habit of switching back and forth between your old and new glasses-the best thing to do is just wear them nonstop for a week or so, and if you end up not adapting to them after that then take them back to have them adjusted accordingly. I know it sucks, I actually had my new Rx come in today and it's been crazy getting used to them but I've had them on for 12 hours in a row and now I'm seeing better than I have in a loooong time.

Good luck!

JuniorMintz, yes they are the no line lenses. I don't seem to have lost my peripheral vision, but I have Nystagmus, which might explain it. The salesman told me if I didn't like progressive I could take them back and get the lined bifocal.
