I don't get carded anymore. Or maybe the people at this convenience store know me now. Either way, I don't get asked for ID when I buy my smokes.
I went in today after work and bought smokes AND beer. Top it off, there was a local police officer there. Went up to the cash lane, put the purchases up, and got my ID ready. The store has a sign (yes, I actually read the signs) that says "We ID anyone that looks under 30." Well, I'm 34, but according to everyone I work with, I look 24.
So I have my ID out, like I do every time I buy some of these no-no items and wait for them to ask.
They didn't ask! And it's been happening a lot lately. I can go to a store 40 miles away, buy cigs, and they don't card me.
*sigh* Should I count my blessings that I don't look as old as I am? Should I be insulted?
I think I'll just let it be....

I'm hit or miss on getting carded.
When I was 20, I hardly got carded for anything. It was quite amazing, because then I'd get into bars and what not.
When I turned 21, I got carded for just about everything. Except for a couple of bars I frequent, I'm good friends with the bouncers. ;)
Oh, and I don't get carded by one waitress at Buffalo Wild Wings. I've been there so much, whenever I order just a root-beer when she's the waitress, she goes, "don't you normally drink vodka and coke?"
And since I don't smoke, I don't have near the opportunity to see how much I do or do not get carded.

I know the feeling. I rarely get carded anymore either. Although, I did get carded at this one place last summer. That one really made my night. :D

Try being 30 and having AARP trying to get you to sign up (answer: no thanks. Even if I were old enough, I don't like your entitlement-minded politics).

I'm 35 and get mailing from the AARP at least once a week. I have mailed it back with my age highlighted and still get mailings from them.
I did get carded when buying an "R" rated movie the other night, that so made my week. :D

Only once, has anyone actually gotten my age right. I never got IDed when I should have and I've been asked for ID when I was old enough.
The day of my 18th birthday, I decided I'd skip school, sleep in, and get my basic license. Yay, no stupid provisional! So I wake up around 11, getting ready round 11:30, phone rings. "Hi, this is so-and-so from the Marines, I just wanted to wish you a happy 18th birthday!" Damnit, that's scary. Not only did they know my exact age, they knew I wasn't in school that day and that I was awake...

I still get carded occasionally. I have decided that it depends on my hair and makeup. If I have makeup on and my hair down I don't get carded, if my hair is in a ponytail and I don't have makeup on, I do get carded.

:ot: When I was in high school I knew all the recruiters from all the services because they were all in the same building with my mom's office. One of the army recruiters in particular would not stop calling me trying to get me to sign up. (He was actually the only one who would try to talk to me, the others all told my mom they would leave me alone because they knew I didn't want to join and if I wanted more info I would come to them) I finally walked in to the office one day, looked at him and said "W, quit calling me. If, and only if, they allow women to fly Apaches, then you can call me and let me know. Until that day I have no interest in joining the Army. Call me again I will go above your head."
A couple of they guys who were friends with my mom started laughing and said "Hey, she's been telling you for months and so have we, leave her alone." He didn't call me after that.

I didn't even know recruiters called girls. I never got a single call. The day my brother turned 17 they were calling him, trying to get him to join.

Toward the end of my senior year, I got several calls from this one really pushy recruiter who couldn't understand the word "no." I was hoping they'd call some day when my parents weren't home so I could rip them a new one, but that never happened. Interestingly enough, I later found out that my mom was just as tired of the calls as I was, and probably would have let it go, just this one time, if I had decided to go off on them.
I already told my son that if that ever happens to him (only about five years away now), and he's not interested, to politely tell them so. And if they don't respect that, which they probably won't, then he has my permission to tell them off.

Y'know, if all these recruiters got into the ranks instead of pestering people, I can't help but think that they wouldn't have a shortage...

They DO. Back when I turned 17 (1986 to be exact), I received a letter from Selective Service addressed to Mr. DGoddess.
My first name is actually one that can be used by either gender, but for some reason they thought I was male.
*checking gender*
Yep, still female and it don't look like it's going to change anythime soon.

I got some calls, but not too many. I guess my ASVABs weren't that exciting or something.
I do remember the guy administering them was clipping his fingernails throughout the test through..... bleah.

If you don't want the recruiters to call tell them you bat for the other team. The recruiters are doing an important job and it is usually a thankless job. While I never was one I have a lot of respect for them.

Ive never been bugged by a recruiter. I guess being 265, even during times of war, is enough to keep them away from me.
As for getting carded.
Id always ask, Would you like to see my id, while digging it out of my walet.
I got more no's then yes's
I guess they figured, If im offering to show them my id, before they can even grab the item to scan it, i must be old enough.
