I've noticed that a lot of users have a picture of a cat for their avatar, and I was just wondering why that is. Is it some kind of thing you all decided to do or is it just a coincidence? I like cats so I think the pictures are cute, I was just wondering.

My avatar is actually a picture of one of my kitties, Miss Monkey-Monk. And yes, that look of displeasure is her usual expression.
They say that cats and their owners eventually start to look alike. I would have posted a pic of myself, but I'm afraid I'd break my own camera.

Lots of cat servants around here, including me :D . I simply decided to be different and use a different pet as my avatar. :p

I have a cat as well. He's not even a year old, so he's still a baby. My entire family loves him and he's a sweethear,t most of the time, he has that short in his brai nthat turns him in a homicidal kitty in a nanosecond, or he wanyts to be left alone.

Don't know about the others but it's coincidence on my part :D . This is our neighbor's cat. He only has 3 legs.

My kitties are barn kitties back at the farm. Two of them were feral when we bought the place and were the only ones that tamed, the other was given to my husband after a kitten he picked up off the side of the road had to be put down :(
I don't have any good pics of any of them at the moment though. Maybe I should go around the hordes with a camera one of these days....

I have two kitties, but the black one (Honey) does not photograph as well. Plus, the picture I have here of Rascal peeking at you sorta goes with my screen name :D

My master is a shorthair I call Fenris (yes, I know where the name is from, but I'll keep it anyway). She is all black (which I'm told is unusual) with big, yellow eyes. Classic halloween cat. I got her from a shelter and have never had cause to regret it. I may use her as my avatar, when I get around to setting one up.

That cutie face up there is Keelin, she was my moving in present from the b/f. The day I moved in he took me to the MSPCA and she picked me out. She loves to pose for the camera, and is the sweetest kitty ever! Her new trick is jumping up on the back of my computer chair and nuzzling my neck and purring in my ear while I play my games.

Awww! In the avatar picture, she looks like she's asking for a tummy rub (my cat loves having his rubbed).

The funny thing is, she HATES to have her tummy rubbed, but she is constantly rolling around on her back. If you try to touch her tummy, she digs her front claws into your arm, and then kicks with her back claws giving you some nice scratches. She has also recently had her lap breakthrough. It took her 14 months, but she is finally comfortable enough with us to jump up and lay down on our lap. We are both keeping healthy supplies of treats nearby to encourage this beahaviour.

I have a cat... but no scanner, sadly. So I use random pictures that catch my eye instead.

So I guess a cat scan is out of the question. :rimshot:
While I don't have a cat in my avatar, I have six of them at home. Used to be four, and I swore up and down that was the limit, until my best friend needed a home for two adorable kittens she and her boyfriend had found. I think I have pics of them in a thread here somewhere.

I have three cats . . . a yellow short haired tabby named George - a long hair black kitty (I think she has mancoon in her) named Shadoe - and a medium hair calico named Pepper.
They own me, of course!
I just like the dark phoenix avatar I use. I have a ton of pics of my kitties, but the files are too large for me to use them as an avatar.

I just figured out how to get one of my kitty pics as my avatar!! Say hello to Shadoe!!

I love kitties! My current avatar is a sculpture of a cat that my mother made, but I waffle between this, Puss from Shrek, and my own cat. (MY cat is the cat of many nicknames - currently called Squish)http://hometown.aol.com/angelaaimt/100-0051_IMG.JPG

I currently have four cats. The avatar is Trouble, our silver tabby boy who may be of Maine Coon Cat heritage. We also have Sylvester (black and white, and every bit as goofy as his cartoon namesake), Flash (white, blue-eyed, and a total princess) and Fifi (toroiseshell, shy and semi-wild but sweet when she gets to know you).

....She is all black (which I'm told is unusual).....
Unusual? Really? I have two all-black kitties (5.5 yrs old male and an 8 mth old female). The first was from a litter of two (both all-black from two all-black parents) and my second one is from a litter of five all-black kitties. I suppose I lucked out......I just love my black kitties! :D

I have a 9 month old female kitten named Heathen. She's a mottled tortiseshell with pretty unusual markings even for a tortie, a playful disposition, mood swings, and a taste for human blood. I got her from another family that was planning to get rid of her, and had started to let her roam the neighborhood.
She basically named herself through - "Ow, you bit me, Heathen!" and "Hey! You gave me a flea, Heathen!"

That's what I was told by the vet. All-black fur (actually, I think it was any all-solid colors, now that I'm thinking about it) for kitties is a regressive trait, so most black cats have a small patch of another color on them somewhere. Just repeating what the professional tells me. All I know is that I get this voice in the back of my head while I'm playing games that says, "You want to pick up the cat. The cat will make you feel better. You want to pet the kitty. You want to open a can of tuna and spill it. Lot's of it." =^.^=

*wonders what his kitty is up to this morning*
I have a grey/black tiger-striped kitty, who appears to be a Maine Coon. His fur is extremely thick and soft. He was originally my grandmother's cat...and I brought him home when I bought my house. Right now, he's probably curled up on the couch, or under one of the living room tables with his toy mice.

My owner McGriff is about 15 years old and still thinks he's a kitten. We got him when we were living in Vermont in 1991. He has seven toes on each front paw and the loudest purr I have ever heard in a cat :D His ear-markings amused me when i was younger, I used to say it looked like someone spilled coffee on his head.

No cats yet, though I want one. My current avatar is an ultrasound picture of my "tummy shark," edited to be funny (credit for the joke goes to my hubby). Yay animation software.

That's really neat! I learned something new today. My kitties are solid black. I never knew that was unusual/unique. That's cool.

Ok, I did some searching, and found this page about cat coloration, and the recesive gene that makes a cat "solid."

Since several people seem interested, and I wasn't entirely sure about the accuracy. Enjoy!

Cats scare me. They have claws that hurt when they come in contact with your skin.. and their teeth are sharp and they are so aloof all the time. I do think they are cute, however, and there are a few cats I know who are very sweet but I am a dog person. Each to their own, I guess :) I have two and they are the sweetest little things. They are Poodle/Chihuahua mixes and one (Sophie) is 6 pounds and over a year old; the other (Maggie) is 2 pounds and 3 months old. I love them so much and I take them with me everywhere. I should hopefully have some pictures of them in the Photo Album sometime soon!

When I was a baby, I grabbed one of our cats' tails and folded it in half  She proceeded to reach out and swipe me across the face...with no claws. Mom said she was positive she'd have to rush me to the ER, but I was unhurt.
Of course, I was still scared half to death and never did that again.

I just acquired a year and a half old ginger tabby named "Oliver" from one of our drivers. He's as cute as a bugs ear, but the only pics I have of him are on my phone and I don't have that set up with an email acct yet to get them to another location. He's a spaz. I live in a studio apartment, so, it's a pretty small place but he makes the most of all the square footage I do have!

That's one cat with incredible restraint! Then again, cats and dogs have very good parental instincts (better than a lot of humans, sorry to say) and she may have understood that you were too little to understand what you were doing.

I love cats- always have. We have three. I have a bobcat as my avatar b/c I think they're such gorgeous creatures, but I would never dream of having one b/c it wouldn't be fair to them. Plus, I have a child. Considering how much I hear about cats being mistreated, it's nice to know there are so many cat lovers on this board. ;)
