Hey everyone! I am a huge music fanatic. Music makes me feel like someone out there understands what I am going through, what I have experienced and that I am not alone. Also, I love to go out dancing- it's great exercise and a perfect way to forget about the real world for a while. Anyway, some of the bands I absolutely adore for their music is 3 Days Grace, Linkin Park and Blue October. These are the bands who's whole CD's, not just a few tracks, I love. I have been listening to 3 Days Grace's new CD and it is SO amazing!!! So, I guess the point of this thread is for people to share the bands they love! No matter what kind of music, new or old, what are your favorite bands? I love "discovering" bands no one has ever heard of (ex: I used to listen to Blue October before they were big- same with The Fray) so if anyone has some good recommendations, shoot! I can't wait to hear from you all!!!

I tend to like new takes on older songs. I LOVE listening to like 10-12 versions of the same song to see how they switched it up, particularly Christmas songs. Um - as far as bands, I don't have a favorite exactly, but I like ones that are uppity and have a unique beat to them, or ones that have really cool lyrics or something. I like them to stand out in some way, shape, or form. As far as artists are concerned, I really REALLY like voices, so I LOVE people like Josh Groban (amazing Baritone), Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, and Emmy Rossum - who played Christine in the 2004 Phantom of the Opera. Let's just say I have a wide selection of music I like lol.

Oh yeah - and the more I can sing along with it, the more I like it :D

For the most part, I stick to rock. Stuff like Green Day, The Offspring, or ACDC. Also some metal like System of a Down or Rammstein. Old stuff like The Beatles or Queen. I'll throw in some Eminem if the mood strikes. Also listen to Blink 182, Linkin Park, Nirvana, a lot of Rage Against the Machine lately, Red Hot Chili Peppers. So pretty much, any type of rock, whether it be punk, alternative, classic, metal, funk, grunge. Not too huge on the emo, it all sounds the same to me. Can't stand country or boybands(aka. singers, not bands), or any of those female singers out there these days.

I don't really listen to bands that much. Mostly I listen to soundtracks from musicals (The soundtracks for 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' and 'Shock Treatment' have been in constant rotation in my car for months :o ) If I listen to the radio at all it's the oldies station.

I've also bene known to listen to Christmas music all year long :ashamed:

Music... I love music.

My favorite 3 bands are:

The Strokes (#1)
The Arctic Monkeys
The Libertines

Other bands that I like are (not in any particular order, just when they come to mind):

Sparta
Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Killers
Vanishing Act (although I've only heard one song, I absolutely adore it)
American Express
Thrice
Breaking Benjamin
Avenged Sevenfold
Apartment 26
Bloc Party
Babyshambles
Franz Ferdinand
30SecondstoMars
Lostprophets
Nonpoint
Finch
Unloco
Onesidezero
Spineshank
Placebo
Led Zeppelin
Guns N' Roses
Blondie
Gang of Four
The Clash
Dead Kennedys
The Ramones
In Flames
Taproot
Cold
Eighteen Visions

I can tell you, this isn't even a 3rd of the bands that I could call some of my favorites. I listen to a lot of underground British punk from the 70s. And a lot of underground garage rock bands. I also listen to a lot of metal. But my 3 favorite bands are without a doubt the ones I listed up top. I listen to their music all the time. And The Strokes are my favorite all-time band. Going on 4 years strong now.

I'm a music snob with some very rigid definitions on genres, so I won't comment. Half my time on other boards seems to be spent posting "This is why Green Day aren't punk" or "System Of A Down are not metal!"... while I listen to my Poison greatest hits. I guess none of us are perfect. XD

Can't stand country or boybands(aka. singers, not bands), or any of those female singers out there these days.

I agree with this statement for the most part- boy bands sing songs with lyrics that don't mean anything (Summer Girls by LFO for example- I cannot STAND that song!) and to me, country is all the same- twangy music with lyrics about dogs, tractors or barbeque stains on tee-shirts :headscratch: but there are some great female artists out there (just trying to support my kind:D ). One unkown female artist I have recently "discovered" and been pretty impressed with (she writes her own lyrics, plays an instrument and has a great voice) is Robynn Ragland. Check her out: http://cdbaby.com/cd/robynn You can listen to samples of her music on this site. Also, Alanis Morrisette is and always has been great. Her lyrics are real and so is she!

You know what you get when you play a country and western record backwards? You get your girl back, your house back, your dog back, your truck back...

But seriously, I used to hate country. Then, when rap and hip-hop started to take off, country didn't seem so bad. It's still not something I'd run out and buy, or pay to see in concert, but I can tolerate it now.

As far as what I like, I'm a complete and total metalhead (as if my avatar and title didn't already give that away.) That sounds pretty narrow, but there are quite a few varieties of metal. The heaviest stuff I listen to is stuff like Slayer, Overkill, Testament, etc. On the other end of the scale is stuff that is probably more like "hard rock" -- stuff like Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, etc.

I'm ripping on the new ones, going as far back as Britney Spears and all of them. I mean Madonna is cool. If a chick is playing an instrument along with her singing, I have no beef with her. It just seems like so many single female artists are singing the exact same song over and over. Avril Lavigne? Crap. Give me a break. You aren't punk. You aren't fooling anyone. Enough with the crappy music.

And whats up with that girl, Justin Timberlake, and that stupid song Bringing Sexy Back. Leave sexy where it's at! That song is CRAP!!!

I like a lot of different kinds of music. My all time favorite used to be heavy metal- I listened to all sorts- Metallica, Ozzy, Slayer, Rammstein, MegaDeth, Sabbath...etc.
So, I tend to like heavier rock music, although lately I'm drawn to more alternative rock, some punk, some techno...little of everything. Not a huge fan of country, but I've gotten used to it since that's what my riding instructor listens to all the time. Only thing I can't stand is any of that gangsta rap, most boy bands, Britney Spears and all performers that are just like her.
Bands I Love (in no particular order): Linkin Park, Hoobastank, System of a Down, Evanescence, The Gathering, GreenDay, Offspring, Power Man 5000...the aforementioned...and a ton more- I won't bore you the list is long. I have seen many of my favorites in concert, and met quite a few bands/members as well. I haven't been to a concert in ages, but I have to say it was always one of my favorite things to do- I just love to get lost in the music and watch all the people. And music is very inspiring- I love to listen to my favorites while I do my artwork.

I'm a lazy person when it comes to what bands I like. I don't really go to concerts, I tend to listen to NPR most of the time. However, there are bands that I never change the station on if they come on:
Snobby Brit pop bands like Cold Play- what can I say, I like snobby Brit pop :)

Nickel Creek

Death Cab for Cutie- yes, I'm a sheep.

Radio Head- again with the snobby Brit pop

David Gray- yep....you guessed it...

I also have a few cds that I never get bored of, like the 3 sets that have been put out for Ghost in the Shell:SAC, Beethoven's 6th Symphony, and a DDR compilation (Shiny Disco Balls!)

I listen to various types of music and am always looking for new stuff.

My top 10 Artists in order:
1. Red Hot Chili Peppers
2. Beck
3. Sonic Youth
4. Air
5. Aphex Twin
6. Autechre
7. Soundgarden
8. Alice in Chains
9. Daft Punk
10. The Rolling Stones

Music is pretty much my life in a way, I grew up around it.

Officegirl, it's modern country that sounds bad, if you listen to the old stuff like Cash and Loretta Lynn it's quite nice. Morrisette rules by the way.

In terms of genre, I'm an alternative freak and love Sonic Youth who are pretty much the definiton of alternative. The Chili Peppers I've been following since 1999 and have all their albums. Air is quite alternative, but imagine modern day Pink Floyd with various instrumentals and it's more relaxed music.

Aphex Twin I've been listening to a lot, a electronic music artist who has never had a music lesson in his life and he's something else. Here's a small snippet of his music: http://dsacidtrip.ytmnd.com/ Don't mind the weird image.

I listen to plenty of music, I have 3 days worth of music on my computer and about 1500 songs, and I don't even have all my albums on there yet.

I'm on a huge 80s kick right now. Have been for a while now.

Otherwise, I have a huge wallet full of 80s punk music CD I either bought or burned. I haven't listened to them in some time though.

Rap and Hip Hop royally suck though theres a station here in Cincinnati called " The Wiz" That a couple of my co workers listen to that plays 4 hip hop songs over and over and over all friggin night Listening to that makes me wanna slit my throat

No one at where I work likes the stuff I listen to, it's either too noisy (Sonic Youth) too weird (Aphex Twin & Beck) or too loud (RHCP, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains.) I honestly despise rap because I had to hear way too much in school.

I listen to a lot of stuff. I grew up listening to tons of classic rock, because that's what my mom liked. There's a really disturbing yet funny home video of me singing to the "The End" by the Doors in my long, white nightgown. I was all of 7 at the time. Knowing my sister, it'll end up on YouTube someday. :o
Because I've listened to a lot of classic rock I'm way into Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Eagles, The Doors, The Moody Blues, Van Morrison. I have dozens of cds of classic rock artists.
As for more current music, I like a little bit of everything. I like country (Sara Evans, Deana Carter and Lonestar), R&B (Mary J Blige--I ADORE her voice), rock (AFI, The Killers, Nirvana, Pearl Jam), pop (kick me, but I like the Pussycat Dolls!, Britney Spears) and I even like a bit of rap (Snoop Dogg and old Dr. Dre--also listen to Jay-Z "Change Clothes" when you've had one too many and you'll think Jay Z is a GENIUS!! )
I tend to either like music, be indifferent to it, or absolutely HATE an artist or song. There's only 3 degrees for me. I can't like music a little bit. Either I love, don't listen to it, or hate it.
I like metal, rap, rock, pop, country, easy listening, adult contemporary. You name it, I'll some of it at least.
I have to admit, somewhat sheepishly, that I don't really like jazz. Blues and soul yes! I love that, but I've never been able to grasp jazz. I've tried listening to it, but I just don't get it. I've always felt so, um, uncool for not understanding the pull of jazz. But I don't like it. I'd rather just hang out in my room and listen to Genesis' "Invisible Touch" album or something.

Jazz is awesome and yes it is a little difficult to get into but I love it. I listen to Miles Davis and Ellington constantly. Fusion jazz is awesome to listen to and of course the Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Sorry, ihatethenba... It's something I was told since I was little. My parents don't like country and my own mind hasn't changed that opinion yet. Although, I don't mind some Garth Brooks once in a Neon Moon (Haha). And I do like Justin Timberlake's new song (new CD anyway) because it's so dance-able!!! And he has a way of making girls feel SO sexy when they dance to his music. It's sexy music.

My dad used to own a DJ company so I also like a wide variety of music from the 60's to current although I listen to rock most of the time. I also have a lot more music knowledge than most people my age which I am pretty proud of. I win bets with that knowledge :D Anyway, depending on my mood, I listen to something different everyday. Sometimes listening to some Journey or Four Seasons or Rob Zombie or Tom Petty or Disturbed hits the spot. As I said in my first post, listening to music helps me sort out my emotions... I don't like to talk about them and music helps me somehow release what I can't talk about. I guess I don't really know how to say it but I know I couldn't live without many different kinds of music.

OK, since none of my faves have been montioned, I'm trying to figure out who's weird, me or you guys.

My faves...

Train--love them! They are amazing on CD and live. The best live show I have ever seen.

Bowling for Soup--also very good live and very cool music. The stuff not on the radio is the best.

Violent Femmes--I've seen them live 5 times and would love to see them again!

Allison Krauss and Union Station--yes, I know it doesn't really fit in with the rest of the list, but she has a beautiful voice.

George Strait--God, I would pay good money just to sit and watch him stand and sing.

Harry Connick, Jr.--The man is fabulous! Hubby has taken me to see him twice and not only is he a fabulous performer, he is freakin' hilarious! The last time we saw him he banged out the first few bars of "Back in Black" in the piano and went on about how they needed to create a fusion of rock and jazz and call it "jock". Very funny stuff.

Lots of others that I like but might not call a "favorite."

I like all sorts of rock music, but I'll admit that my tastes are heavily favoured towards "punk" rock. I'm not a big fan of rap, but I do really like K-Os. Too bad I didn't get tickets to his show here...

The Headstones
NOFX
Sum 41
Tenacious D

Other really good bands:
Green Day
Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Offspring
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
Nirvana
The Beatles
Our Lady Peace
K-Os
Billy Talent
Reel Big Fish
AFI
The Dead Milkmen
Rancid
MxPx
Arrogant Wroms :o
Gorillaz
Fatboy Slim
Arctic Monkeys
Franz Ferdinand
Metric
Mobile
The Racontuers

Sam Roberts
The Clash
The Arcade Fire
White Stripes
Blink 182-remember them? ;)

Some of my absolute favorite bands are Hurt, Flyleaf (been listening to both of those before they got big...heck, they're still not that big), Godsmack, Staind, Three Days Grace, Linkin Park, etc. I pretty much like anything that's loud and obnoxious lol. Metal is up my alley for sure. I can't even begin to write down all the bands that I like. I love blues and techno as well. I really do listen to everything, unlike soem of those people you come across that say they do, but they really don't. But I am partial to punk, metal, and hard rock. I also love Rammstein, System of a Down, Static-X, Slipknot, etc. So I was correct in saying that I like my music loud...and the "singers" screaming the lyrics lol.

Yeah, I'm gonna hafta disagree with you on that one. My modelling instructor played his songs constantly, and she was a big believer in fake, cheesy grins. So now, Justin Timberlake (Trousersnake :D) makes me think of manufactured sexiness. Which is not sexy. And I'm going to stop right now before I start making dirty jokes.

Oh, you mean like 'Mach'? :D

I have many, many different bands that I listen to *calls up Itunes*:
- Lacrimosa: gorgeous symphonic metal, and Tilo Wolff is a bit of alright. ;)
- :wumpscut:
- Unter Null
- Angelspit (yay for decent Australian bands!)
- Rob Zombie
- Despair (oh, those crazy Japanese kids...)
- D'espairs Ray
- Dir En Grey
- Rammstein
- My Ruin
- Genitorturers
- Grendel
- Angel Theory

And plenty of other random stuff that comes off those sample CDs you get with magazines sometimes.

I'll listen to pretty much anything with a few exceptions, I hate R&B, crappy boy bands/brittney/stuff like that. And new rap just isn't my cup of tea.

On the other hand, I'll load up a mix including some of the following to listen to at the same time on random

Ramstein (holy hell who on here doesn't)
Korn
Lamb of God
Cradle of filth
Megadeth
The Police
The Cure
NIN
Brooks and Dunn
Phish
Pantera
Ozzy
Pink Floyd
Frank Sinatra (and the whole rat pack)
Depeche (depressed) Mode
Etc, Etc, Etc

My taste in music seems to be a bit more sedate than most in here. I can't stand metal/punk (actually induces physical pain. I have the same problem with opera sopranos), loathe gangsta rap (the cleaner rap, such as Will Smith, is OK), and think a lot of grunge/alternative sounds like an industrial accident in progress. :D

I tend toward older pop/soft rock (hey, I grew up with a mother who never did figure out the 60s were over ;) ), R&B (I tend to like "old school"), classical, and such. There's some country I can enjoy, and jazz is OK for the most part. Can't stand Britney Spears (her so-called "singing" is about on a par with mine, and my cat sings better than I do). Also love comedy stuff such as Weird Al (but can't stand Spike Jones).

I could see how that would turn you against his music. I know lots of girl who love to dance to his music, though, and that's why he's still in the game. It's upbeat and fun. As I said, I used to be a DJ- maybe that's why I am such a sucker for dancing and the music that gets it going!
