Anybody want to take a wild guess what kind of things? You probably can if you've been reading my threads here...

Yes, it was plants! Carnivorous plants! Lots of them! Including the bical I was so indecisive about.

I was expecting two boxes today and one tomorrow... I did get two boxes today, but one of them was the one I thought was coming tomorrow, and the box that should have been here today wasn't delivered because apparently the FedEx guy decided that despite leaving things on my doorstep many times before, today he wasn't going to deliver unless I answered in person. Twithead. I left a note taped to the door and everything! (We're the last house on our block, so we get no traffic past at all, so there's no theft danger, and I sleep odd hours, so I'm not usually awake when the delivery guys come, so I just leave a note whenever I'm expecting things.)

Anyhow! I'll have to go hunt down and claim the third one tomorrow, but here's what came today!

Venus fly traps! Two normals, one Red Dragon, one Big Mouth, one Dentate, and one flowering normal that's supposed to be a particularly vigorous variety.

Temperate pitcher plants. The big one is a Sarracenia x Judith Hindle that I got a little while ago but only just now potted. The little guys are an unknown hybrid.

Here's a closeup of the little ones. Cute, aren't they? Less than an inch tall now. In three or four years they may be as tall as two feet!

Here's a tropical pitcher plant! Nepenthes ventricosa, it's closely related to the nepenthes ventrata I already had, and is supposed to be very easy to grow.

This guy is a nepenthes ampullaria, which is unusual among carnivorous plants for no longer being fully carnivorous. It'll still eat bugs if they happen to fall in, but it doesn't exude nectar to attract them or have slippery hairs to make them fall into the pitcher. Instead it eats leaves from other plants that fall into it! It grows on the jungle floor, and eats whatever falls down from above. A vegetarian carnivorous plant!

I saved the best for last. Here's my nepenthes bicalcarata! Gleee! I wish the picture had come out better, the macro mode auto focus is a bit iffy on that camera sometimes. But anyhow, there's my fanged pitcher plant! It's my very favorite and I really hope that it grows well for me. It's supposed to be much harder to grow than the others I have, but I will give it my best shot!

Did you give the Venus Fly Traps a couple of nice juicy flys?

They'll catch them on their own without my needing to do anything. :D Though I noticed that several of them must have caught something just before they were shipped, they had full traps.

And yes, "dentate" means "with teeth." They have shorter interlocking tooth edges on the traps, rather than the more hair-like ones on the typicals, so they look very toothy!

Now here's a carnivorous plant (http://cuteoverload.com/2009/06/10/kittehs-sleep-anywhere/) I wouldn't mind having in my house...
