I had purchased a floppy disk drive from Circuit City last Feburary. It stopped working this past August. I had an extended warranty on it. I called CC to put in a claim for a new drive. The rep told me about 7-10 business days to receive a replacement. I though great, it has been almost 3 months.

I checked the web site and it said to call for the replacement options. I have called at least one a week, and I keep getting a recording to leave a message, and someone will get back to me, but it did say to give them some. No one never calls me. I would like for them to call me to give me some kind status check.

I have been patient with them. I have been waiting almost 3 months. I am tired of waiting. I cannot save anything on my computer, and I don't want to go an buy another one. This is getting rediculous.

I just called them and requested a call back. I also told them that if I don't get a call back in a couple of days I am going to end up writing a letter to corporate through PFB, asking them for some info and assistance. Was I just yelling into the wind on this? Will I really get a call back or did I just make myself out to sound silly and spoiled? I know there are some people here somewhere that works for CC, will I really get the results I want, by threatening corporate. I have never written a letter to corporate, I have always been able to get things done by talking to a rep. There is no other phone number, I have tried going through care but they can only transfer me to the service line, which in turns asks me to leave a message.

Personally I would just forget about the floppy drive. For the price you pay for a floppy drive ($10-$20) and disks (another $10 or so, though I have to admit I haven't priced them in a long time), you can probably get a 512MB USB drive, especially if you go this Friday. A 512MB drive is equivalent to about 350 floppy disks, so space definitely won't be a problem. Not to mention that floppy disks and drives are notorious for going bad, particularly when you have important files on them.

I have to second GBM on this. I've had floppies sitting around in dustproof boxes and far away from any magnetic influences that failed to keep their information.

However, since you have the warranty and need the information from the floppies to put onto something like a USB drive (I use SD cards and a reader/writer USB plugin to back up this site's information every week), then I'd pursue it. You are owed it, but going onto PFB and complaining about a small-value item such as that is something I wouldn't do in a shared letter.

This is a perfect example of why I don't bother with those extended warranties. Well, that and the runaround we've been getting with trying to get my son's laptop repaired. It seems like too many of these places want you to give them money for these, but on those rare occasions where they're actually going to have to pay out on them, they'll drag their feet, screaming bloody murder the whole way.

Micro Center has 1GB flash drives for about $16. No fancy packaging and they're branded with the Micro Center logo, but it gets the job done.
