So. My boyfriend lives only a few miles from his work and usually bikes during the summer. He's a responsible Rider, obeys all traffic laws (like stopping at red lights), and wears a helmet (most of the time; I had to threaten him to wear one. Yes, they're hot and uncomfortable I know). Last year he was the victim of 2-hit and runs; luckily he was able to bend his bike back into shape. No, they never stopped (well, the 2nd time the lady stopped, but as soon as he turned to pick-up his bike she was GONE! Mind you, he was in a crosswalk when both these happened).

So, he's riding on the shoulder, with the flow of traffic, in a 35-40MPH area. He suddenly hears the sound of a car on the rumble strip behind him and turns to see a huge pickup truck bearing-down on him, several feet onto the shoulder! He only has time to turn the bike and go into the ditch as the truck roars-by and returns fully into its traffic lane; so it was seriously aiming for him! Needless to say it was a ROUGH landing and several 'body parts' got pretty bruised-up. Of course, he only told me the story after I noticed him walking and sitting funny.

Damn truck driver! Have a little respect you road hogs! I would like to keep the love of my life in one piece thank you!

I've been a bicyclist for 35+ years and have to say this is more common than most people realize. Heck, the first thing I do when I get a new bike is take off all the reflectors. I KNOW where ALL the cars in my vicinity are - and I don't want to give them anything to aim at. :(

I'd try mounting a video camera to the bike. The next jerkoff that pulls that shit you make two copies: One for the police department and one for the TV station for news.

I would think they'd have the driver's license (if cars have a front license plate in that state) at least briefly before the tumbling.
