View Full Version : well know I dont know what to think!
so my Mother who has been most ...upset...that I have moved halfway around the world finally got what she wanted a couple of days ago. She has been hinting, and guilt tripping me over this for months.
Permission to come and visit me (we have a complicated relationship) and I have really enjoyed the break away from all the drama, but as usual, distance has improved our relationship. So I finally cleared it with my boss to take a month or so off if she comes over....I tell her, all excited at the prospet and get a "maybe" in return.... ....a MAYBE!!!!
Im just not sure what to think! Does she still want to come, whats going on, Im a little shell shocked to say the least....
I half expected shed be on a plane in a week, she said "sometime in the next 2 years, maybe for my 50th birthday" :( I dont know what to do or to think now...every phone call shes cried, talked about how much she misses me, how lonely she is...but she wont come over....
what do I do?

Now, I don't know you, I don't know your mother, and I don't know your relationship. Why am I giving you advice? I don't know, actually. But that hasn't stopped me in the past, so take this for what it's worth.
Just roll with the punches. You've said that it was OK for your mother to visit, now the ball is in her court. She may really want to go, but has a fear of planes, snakes on a plane, or coming to Canada and being eaten by a savage, toque-wearing polar bear. Just make sure that she gives you enough time ahead of time to take some time off of work, maybe plan some activities and sight-seeing, or start a round of power-baking for your guest.
Another thought is that maybe she was trying to use it as a ploy to get you to go back to New Zealand. I know that you two have had a alot of dificulties, and you don't particularly want to go back (at least long-term) but it's just something that popped into my head. Or she may have something else going on right now-money's tight, health problem, can't get time off of work, etc.

Thanks for your advice Spiffy. well she does have health problems right now, but shes been talking about coming for the last 6 months.....its only now that she turned all...maybe, she cant come this instant but its just odd that her time frame is 2 years, thats a long time!
her work cant convince her to take enough time off (she has something like 54 days off) saved up....money isnt tight with her (well its not like shes rolling in it) but shes been saving to travel as well
maybe Im just being selfish....its not like I expect her to jump when I say so...Im just perplexed at this sudden change in attitude...I think you may be right in her ploy to get me back home, it wont work, but right now that seems to be the only logical explanation.
I do have a terrible feeling theres something on that shes not telling me... all I can do is wait.

That's not a bad thing to be, really. Al was the only thing that kept Tim from being decapitated, and he made a pretty good Family Fued host.
Off-topic warning: My sister went to Germany for a year after high school. When she got there, she started to talk to people, and she would tell them about her family back in Canada. And more often than not, people were surprised to learn that her father was not actually a lumberjack!

I completely understand. There are places in the US that ask me farming questions when they hear I'm from Ohio.
Maybe I'll give them my morality speech about gold farming in online games next time.

Kiwi...
People keep yelling at me that YOU CANNOT CONTROL OTHER PEOPLES THINKING FEELING BEHAVIOUR....(all in one breath)
All my life I've thought : well, I do it this way, it makes sense doing it abcqwerty.
But other people always think asdfjklnm.
And my mom is passive agressive too, and can be a downright @#$% when she wants to.
All I can do for you Kiwi is hugs, and possibly send a note to Mum: I need information about holidays by 12/x/06. This way I can ask my boss for the time off needed. Otherwise, we might be better off figuring a future date like (whenever here).
I see your reasoning behind it, I see a bit of hers, I see a mom who's liking drama and childishness, and a lady who's being responsible......
All you can do is hope, wait, and if you dont get the info, keep living your life and the right day will come.
All those damn cheesy sayings are starting to come true in my life. Gah.
