View Full Version : Why must the Notre Dame football team always shoot themselves in the foot?

They drive me crazy! I love the team and they have some amazing players, but then they go and play like they did against USC on Saturday night. McKnight couldn't catch a cold that night and the defense was just awful.

Now they are saying the Rose Bowl is a possibility, but really, they had a shot at a title at the beginning of the year and they just blew it away. They drive me crazy.

Anyone else going through this?

Notre Dame=overrated.

They had a very good season, but weren't up to the level of USC or Michigan.

Me, I'm just waiting to see which SEC team my Badgers get to waste.

Every year, but with pro football, not college.

I am *sigh* a Detroit Lions fan. :o

I don't know why I am such a fan of all Detroit teams, other than growing up in Michigan.

I just hope they win a Super Bowl in my lifetime.

USC was just so much faster than the Notre Dame team. They had that one good stretch with the two interceptions and the blocked punt, but other than that the USC defense ran circles around the Fighting Irish. Brady Quinn looked horribly confused. I think he's a great player and set countless Notre Dame records, but hes going to have to get used to the speed of the pro game really quickly. Darius Walker needed to stop pouting on the sideline when Charlie Weis benched him. Rhema McKnight needed to double up on the stickum because he couldn't catch a handoff that night. That being said, the seniors (Quinn, Samardzija, Zbikowski, and Walker) had great Notre Dame careers and should go on to have good ones in the pros. It's a shame, but Notre Dame just wasn't ready to step up to the big leagues this season. Coach Weis has done a great job with the offense, but now he needs to recruit some speed on the defense and get a big run stopping tackle and possibly a shut down corner with some height (as ND's secondary, including Tom Zbikowski, looked overmatched against the 6'5 Towers of Terror Smith and Jarrett). If Weis can fix the defense and bring along the next QB as quickly as Quinn, ND should be back to where they were this season. We'll see how recruiting season goes.

As for Quinn, I hope he doesn't go to a hopeless franchise like the Raiders and can at least go to a team that has some young talent and has a chance to be very good in the next 3-4 years.

Hubby mentioned today that he kind of hopes Quinn goes to Chicago because Grossman just isn't cutting it. I'd like to see him take over from Favre myself.

Next year we have some little smart ass punk QB from Cali coming in. I'm sorry, I don't care how good you are in high school, don't show up in your Junior year of Hs to the College Football Hall of Fame in a limo with a police escort and announce that you will be attending ND in over a year. And don't even start with the HS state champ rings, I'm sure Charlie's "Bling" trumps yours.

I'm not sure about the defense, but I hope they've got someone down the line to replace Zibikowski. That's going to be the biggest hit to the defense this year.

Yes, if Brady does have a bad first quarter he does tend to get "off." It didn't help that one of his two recievers was unable to catch anything thrown his way and he was missing his starting TE.

They have the tools, they just don't seem to be able to put it all together in the same game.

I wanted to smack Bob Davie this morning though. I was watching "Mike and Mike" on ESPN and they were talking to him and asked if he thought ND was one of the top 10 teams in the country. First of all, don't ask Davie what he thinks of ND, he hasn't had a good thing to say about them since they fired his ass. Second, he said "no, I don't think they are one of the top 10 teams. I think they could beat most of the top 10 on any given Saturday, but I don't think they are in the top 10." HUH? That made no sense. If they can beat most of the top 10, then don't you think they would be one of the top 10?

Oh well, life goes on and there is still a bowl game to go. Now all I can hope for is Ohio State to whoop up on USC.

You think this is bad? How about my team, Texas Longhorns?

National Champs last year, then Vince Young leaves to become a Titan and Colt McCoy cant stay healthy. This season really pissed me off.

This is why I only follow the Red Wings, I am waiting for Detroit to get their own MLS (Major League Soccer) team because for me that would be kick-ass.
