I just wanted to take a moment to compliment this site and the people here. i have been on several sites including one that has recently self-destructed due to egos, infighting and moderator abuse of powers (the moderator banned me since I wouldnt bend over and kiss his butt on what he thought was right and I had the temerity to disagree with him. But I'm only slightly bitter) and this one has stayed the closest to its prime goal with only a minor bit of drift and issues.

Part of it is probably the tight controls on political and religion discussions as I have noticed those subjects are very major flash points (and the root of the disagreement between the moderator on NitC and me) even on sites dedicated to those subjects.

But part of it is the moderators are real nice people. Not arrogant egotists who think that they use big words so they are better than people who don't.

An even bigger part is that the people here are not wanting to proove themselves right or better than anyone else.

And I am trying to fit in here and hoping I am doing ok. I know I dont work in retail anymore, heck i dont even leave the farm any more if I can help it. My oldest tells me I'm turning into a cynical bitter antisocial old fart, I tell him thank you when he says that. But I do like to try and talk to people some and when there is something in common, and I have led a complex and chaotic life until now so there are some things I can relate to.

Sorry for kinda drifting of like this but I just wanted to let you know this.

This is a wonderful site.
And, thank-you.

Thank you. It's always nice to be recognized and praised. But we just moderate the site-it's everyone that helps to make it wonderful.

I know our tight controls of the subject matter at times have cost us mmebers, and that bothers me, but I really want people to remain civil. Comments such as this are very much appreciated. Thank you.

In the meantime, I'm working on a little something extra.

That's one of the things I like about this group also--I don't work in retail anymore either. I work for the "government" and I wear a suit every day to work. Yet, I love it here. People are nice and welcoming and just plain neat. :D

No problem about the compliments I mean them.

I have been on some boards where the moderators where tin plated dictators with delusions of god hood and then others where the moderators had as much spine as a bowl of jello.

You guys have been showing a good balance between the two extremes.
Of course the other folks here have been a big help as well to that. Respecting the goal of the site and the general feel/purpose of the site.

Well in this case since this is not a political or religious discssion site I do appreciate the tight controls. It makes things a bit more sedate.

As for loosing people its one of those danged if you do danged if you dont situations. The site's I've seen dedicated to politics (or even have looser restrictions on politics and religion) eventually seem to drive off anyone who isnt of the main POV of the site. So it eventually winds up a conservative site is filled with mostly conservative people who shout down anyone who isnt conservative enough and vice versa with a liberal site or any one of the other isims out there. I spent quite a lot of time and effort trying to fight that and have given up. It is nice to find a place where that doesnt seem to be the national sport of the site.

Anyhow I wanted to take the time to let you guys know.

Wow. Thank you so much. We do lose members occasionally b/c of the controls and some of them do think we're horrible egotistical people. In reality, we're all here on our own time helping the site stay happy for free. Can't really get an ego over a volunteer job, in my opinion. *shrug*

Sometimes I'd read some of the things people would say and it hurts me down to the soul to think that people feel that way. But like you said you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Thank you for your kind words. It truly means so very much to hear them. :D

I agree. I think this site is fantastic. I hope I'm doing ok, as I'm fairly new here...I like the idea that the mods will let me know if I get out of hand. Afterall, while I don't want to be insulted or feel offended by someone else in the community, I also wouldn't want to make someone else feel that way! I think everyone here is pretty in tuned with everyone else, or at least respectful of one another's opinions/experiences. I don't mind the lock-downs when a heated discussion starts to get out of hand- I think the mods keep everything balanced out pretty well.

We are all here to vent/deal with similar work scenarios and its great getting to talk to people who can truly understand where I'm coming from! My BF and most of our friends are 9-5ers who have no clue what it is like to deal with the public. So- it's awesome to see so many others who came from retail or other customer service related jobs- and get to laugh, rant, cry, encourage...etc.

I love this place! I wish I had found it a year ago! And I learn so much from the other members... it's good to get to learn from other people's experiences. ;)

Count me in as another of the staff expressing gratitude for those lovely words of praise.

As I stated in another thread, I've been a member her for six years now, a mod for about three of those years, and an admin for almost a year. And I agree that as message boards go, this is one of the friendliest.

We try to keep a delicate balance between letting people speak freely and keeping things from becoming chaotic, and it's nice to see it hasn't gone unappreciated.

We try to keep the peace as best we can.

And can we say a "Thank You" to our members here? If we didn't have the members, we wouldn't have a board to vent on.

While we're around to keep the peace (of steel,) it's the unique group of members we have here that make this site what it is.:D
