In the Pacific Northwest, a lot of us are snowed and iced in at the moment. In good driving conditions, it normally takes me about half hour to get to work. I woke up at 3:00 am to get ready for work, and my roommate/mom;) was JUST GETTING HOME after going 5-10 mph for about 7 hours!!!

I call my store at 5:05 am to see if J, my immediate supervisor had made it in yet, but no answer. J calls me at 5:15 and this is the gist of our conversation.

J: Hey are you on your way?
Cyan: No way man, there's no way I'm gonna make it, but can you have P {SM} call me when she gets there?
J: OK.

I really hope P will be understanding and will be cool with me not coming in today. She knows I live further away than nearly everybody else at my store. It'll be a long shot but I'll ask her if she can key in some vacation hours for me..... On the one hand I can't really afford to take an extra day off, but I do have a little spare cash saved and I'd really rather stay safe!

For anyone who is interested, here is a webcam that is right near my on-ramp to the freeway.

News reporters are saying it's more treacherous than it looks....

I don't know about snowed in, we only got a dusting down in the valley. It was pretty icy coming back to the apartment from the farm though. I was going about 30 on the back roads and some jackass in a big truck was riding my tail until I turned off... Hope he ended up in a ditch out there somewhere.

I'm just north of the OP, and it's just as yucky. We're not use to this! I know we are weather wussies, but this sucks. The city isn't equipped for it, either.Ice everywhere, which is really fun when I walk home from the bus at night *weeeeeee*

We actually got some very light snow here last week one very cold night in central Florida. I think Orlando got it the worst. Of course, it didn't stick, melting before it hit the ground, but that is the first time since I moved here that I have seen (on television) it snow in Florida.

But it was gorgeous today. about 75deg F with a very light wind.Right now it's 68 and cloudy. Perfect sleeping weather

Cyano, you north-end folks are definitely getting the worst of this. :( Down here in South King County there are a few icy roads (mostly big hills) but none of the major problems - the traffic's always slow here, so who notices another hour or so? ;)

Hope that you at least have electricity and hot water and enough to keep you going for this next blast heading our way today. Good luck!!

How's THIS for "great weather"...

Today: High 70

Friday: High 32

I'm sure glad the Canadians dont charge a tariff on all that artic air they love to export. They export so much of it we'd plunge into another Great Depression if we tried to pay it.

Ditch, ain't it great?

High of 65F today, high of 29F tomorrow and Friday.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I want some snow.

It's been in the high 60s (F) most days here. It's going to suck when the temps come down to more seasonable levels...and yes, I'm probably going to get sick because of it.

It's supposed to get down to -5F tonight. Oh yeah - let the shivering commence.

Is -5F equal to 15C or -20C? I can never get the conversion right.

Don't worry, protege, you'll be in a very popular club then.

I always get sick when the weather changes.

And, apparently, due to the surgery, I now hurt when it's going to rain. Yay me.

Jenni, the  who hurts.

'Tis currently a balmy 80 F, though it feels like 83. It'll be 65 tonight, and 85 tomorrow. Yay for Florida! lol

I actually cant argue about that. Doing that would be like trying to fire back with no bullets.

I actually dont think I'd like living in Florida year-round. The year-round warm weather to me would lose its novelty and I'd get tired of it, especially when venturing out on Christmas Eve and still having to battle mosquitoes. One good thing about the cold here is that it keeps the insect population in check. It's nice to have a 70 degree day and not have to battle ants, Japanese beetles, cockroaches and mosquitoes.

The forecast for me is one to three inches of snow, after possible thunderstorms this evening.

I will never understand Wisconsin weather.

Hey now - it gets cold sometimes! We get to pull out the winter coats for a grand total of a week and a half a year, but we do get cold!

And as far as the bugs go, yeah, we do have those year round. We say there are two types of houses down here: those that have termites, and those that will. Pest control companies make a killing down here, lemme tell you. We get a bit of a reprieve November - February or so, but they're still around. Lovebugs are fun too, those are generally around in October or so. Never heard of a lovebug? Look them up. Let's just say that they earn their name

IPF - ever have a full-blown thunderstorm with lightning and the works...while it's bright and sunny out? Yeah - been in Florida for 16 1/2 years, and I still haven't gotten used to those. We get several a year, particularly during the summer months. Knightmare and Nightangel and other Floridians that I can't think of right now can attest to the....odd weather we get down here.

Keep it coming!!! In Missouri, we're just now getting some rain. And, durn, is it cold!! (okay, relatively, compared to this morning).

I got a tarp on my car, and a shovel in my mudroom!

Can't really say we've been having suckastic weather in SoCal. It's getting really cold though. Well, cold for us. At 6am when I stepped out of my house to drive to work it was 45F. It may not sound cold to some people, but to us that's heavy-coat weather. And I was wearing gloves. It only reached around 67F where I worked, which is unusually cold for us.

It's supposed to be around 30-40F at night.

I know, I know--poor us.

Just to update yall on what happened (could possibly be filed under Morons in Management)... weather related talk at the end of this post :p

J called back around 8:30 and said "P wants to know if you can come in around noon because the cash office* needs to be done."
Cyan: :pissed: Fine I'll be in around then.

Then I change my mind and decide to leave immediately.... Hey the earlier I get there, the earlier I can leave:D. I got to work at about 10 am, did the cash office procedures, then spent the rest of the day doing a planogram. The store was pretty much dead the whole day, and they would have survived just fine without me.

On one hand, I couldn't really afford to stay home, but on the other I felt guilty about giving in and going to work despite dangerous driving conditions.

*Essentially, preparing the cash and check deposits, and various administrative tasks. NONE of the managers know how to do it, just me and one other guy.

Anyway, the temperature has stayed under freezing the past few days. My commutes to and from work haven't been that horrible. The freeways for the most part have been cleared of ice and snow. And luckily my electricity has stayed on!

I had about a half inch to a inch of ice on the tarp I threw over the car this morning. I'm glad I did do the tarp, because I don't think I could have gotten the car doors open.

We got a TINY bit of snow. You Canadian folks, send down more snow!!!

Last night, we had 14 inches of snow dumped on us.

Being a mile or so from campus, I BLOODY WALKED TO WORK. Apparently my life is worth $42. ;)

The one other person who made it in is going to take me home. Her husband has a 4x4.

TechAngel - you must be south east of me!

We got around 3 inches . . . but the further south and east you go, the more snow people had to deal with.

Less than 20 miles south of my house, they got 10 inches. Not as bad as 14, though. Yucky!

I'm just glad it's Friday, and no matter what the weather decides to do, I don't have to drive until Monday once I get home tonight!

We had wind storms last night, the water willow next to the well house finally split to the ground. Now the wife has no choice but to be quiet when I cut it completely down. I've hated that tree ever since it was planted. I also noticed that a 60"+ White Pine blew over last night, if it's not too badly damaged I should be able to get a lot of lumber out of it.

So THAT'S where all the cold is!! It's supposed to be the cool season here right now, and I'm still sweating every time I so much as walk outside...
It's still in the 30's (Celcius) right now, when it sould be getting down at least to 25 or so...

I'll take the remaining cold that TechAngel doesn't want! Wish it west and south- please!
