I cant go one freakin' day without getting at least one email a day from some idiot posing as someone pleading for help to move millions of dollars from somewhere! :mad: And the more people keep falling for it, the more of these stupid emails are gonna clog our emailboxes. Not too long ago I saw about this guy in Nigeria that has made it a full-time job "working" at the local internet cafe and corresponding with literally a dozen suckers at a time to get them to cash fake money orders. He tools around in a brand-new BMW.

Most of those guys aren't driving BMWs (seriously - yuck !) I would suspect he is involved in a number of other major league criminal things to be able to keep a Beemer intact almost anywhere in Nigeria.

There are plenty of people who enjoy playing with the scammers (I am one of them). Have a Google for Lads from Lagos and you'll find plenty of scambaiting sites. I once told a scammer who'd tried to enlist me in hiding lots of money from the SA govt, that I was wicked and a great many people would get into trouble because of me, simply because I told him I'd forwarded his scam email onto the real SA Minister for Transport and the SA policeman in charge of internet scams. I laughed for weeks about that.

I don't bait them, but I do report these e-mails to anyone and everyone I can. My e-mail server, their e-mail server, the FTC, and any local authorities I can find.

there are some hilarious scambait tales out there on various sites
making them hold signs and send pictures of them holding it or other things which can be very amusing
its not the same but some guy tried an ebay scam and ended up being scammed themselves

My ex-gf used to forward me that crap all the time...no matter how hard I tried to get her to check things out first. After being warned about the people driving around with their headlights off at night...and how they'd kill you if you flashed your lights at them, I lost it. She kept insisting it was true. I knew it was bullshit because;

1. "If it's on the 'net, it must be true."
2. Wouldn't something like this be on the news?

I had some idiot claiming to be from Johannesburg, SA fax me saying that some guy died and if I lied and said that I was a relative that he would help me get money. Yep uhuh. The area code for his return fax was Seattle, WA. So Seattle and Johannesburg are one and the same, eh. So I faxed him back telling him to take a running leap into Puget Sound.

I remember this guy who was trying to sell a laptop, and someone tried to scam him out of it. and he ended up sending them a 3 ring binder with "Laptop" written across the top, and on the inside, it had a little screen drawn on oneside, and some halfassed keyboard drawing on the other.
it was in england i think, but i cannot remember much about it, its been awhile.
I do remember that this guy somehow managed to get photos of the scammer, and he started basicly scamming back in the process. it was great.

I'm amazed people still fall for these in large enough numbers that the scammers will keep trying it....

THe money order scam is epidemic on the internet, I was searching Ebay for a cheap minivan to buy, and every single "ask the buyer" page had a spam-bot offer to buy the vehicle in question with a money order, full of horrible typos, bad grammar, refferences to things not even for sale, etc.

And yet it must work more offten than not, or else they wouldn't try it....
