View Full Version : Keep getting logged off somehow

Ever since the boards came back with this new system, I've been getting randomly logged out when reading posts. Especially on long threads, that take 30 minutes or so to read all the coments and stuff. I'd go to post a reply, and I'd have to log in again. What's with that? Server time out or something?

I'd say, check to see if you have cookies set to expire after after a short time. ZoneAlarm has something called Cache Cleaner that will also take out cookies when it runs.

I think this is how it works:
After a certain amount of time that you are "inactive" (meaning not actively clicking anything or changing locations) the board assumes you are no longer using it and logs you out to protect your account.

If that is the case, is there a way to turn that off, or change the inactivity time? Almost every time I post, I'm getting logged off, no matter if I have "remember me" checked. I've just deleted my cookies and cache, and will see if that helps.

On a somewhat related note, "remember me" isn't working, and I told Netscape (v. 7.2 on Win2K) to allow all cookies from this site.

If this is happening a lot while reading, how are you scrolling? I assume that if you use a scroll wheel, it may not register as active use of the page, but using a click on a scroll bar or a page down (or space) might. Just guessing, as I don't have this problem.

Logging out shouldn't happen, but it obviously is doing. I'm going to have to look into it. The standard responses are to ask you to delete cookies and try logging in again, but apart from that you're going to have to bug me so I can look into it. PMs are fine for making me remember :)

Been searching tonight. Seems like there are a number of people having this problem.
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/search.php?searchid=599251 for the search I did - looking for cookies.
Well, who doesn't like cookies?
Anyway, the site has default values, so it's not that. If you clicked 'remember me' then it shouldn't log you out automatically. I'm still browsing this. Prod me from time to time.

I tinkered slightly and set a cookie domain. Clear cookies and the like, anyone who has had a problem. Log in and see what happens, please.

Actually, I seem to remember having this problem after one of the hacks, after we changed software. Apparently I still had cookies for the old site, and the new software didn't work well with it. Clearing them seemed to do the trick.

Anyone else still having problems? Looks like we may have a solution.

Yes, I'm still having log out issues. Also, it seems that when I go to type in my username and password, then hit login, Firefox doesn't prompt me to save it in the system. That doesn't make any sense because it does it for every other site I'm on. I like to be able to log in easy with how Firefox works, but I can't on CS.

Maybe for this site it was already clicked "no". I have no idea where in firefox to re-ask the question.
Well, IE-haters. come out of the wood-work and defend your browser's honor ;)

No, there is nothing in my settings that shows I have 'Save Passwords' disabled for CS.

I still can't get "Remember me" to work. I have Netscape 7.2 on Win2K, and totally cleaned out any cookie I wasn't 100% sure had nothing to do with this site. Didn't help.

I've been browsing the help forums, and all I can see are the same suggestions.
I'll keep looking.
