I don't know why- but I think James Woods is incredibly hot and charismatic. He's at least twice my age- not classically attractive, but I watch Shark every week without fail just to see him. (No- I don't write fan letters, or hang posters of him or whatever).

Have you ever felt drawn to someone or found someone really appealing for reasons unknown to you?

Nope, I've thought he's sexy since... geez, ever?

Even back in the days of movies like Better Off Dead (ahhh, the '80's!) I thought he was sexy. But then, he really doesn't look much different now- he's one of those ageless people I think.

Yeah... I'm in the Snape boat as well- everyone knows that though. :D

I've been watching the first season of "Bones" on DVD recently. My hubby watched it for a few minutes and then he says, "Oh. Now I know why you're watching this! It has whats-his-face that played Angel in it."
Me: "Oh, no... I'm just watching it because it's a good show...*coughcough*"
I wasn't really lying... it is a good show. The fact that David Boreanez is in it is simply a perk.

My screen name probably gives it away, but I find myself strangely attracted to Geoffrey Rush, especially as Barbossa. Alot of people are baffled and sometimes a bit grossed out when I tell them that I think Barbs is the sexiest pirate  But gawd . . . I can't help it. He's so charmingly wicked. I've given up trying to make sense of the attraction, now I just shrug and embrace it.

Christopher Eccleston. Most of the actors who've played Doctor Who have been attractive and appealing in one way or another, but there's something fascinating about him. Maybe it's his intensity. Or his nice cheekbones.

The Edge from U2. Smart, talented, witty. And another one with nice cheekbones. :D

And here I thought everyone loved John Cusak. I wouldn't have expected his name to pop up in this thread.

So as not to hijack this thread completely, I'll throw that I currently have an attraction I can't explain. Someone I know in real life, who I've known for over year. Never liked her at all... and then one day... Alas, she doesn't know I exist and I'm not in any mood to tell her.

Anyhow, my favorite John Cusak story. I was watching a hockey game some years ago on ESPN. The announcers were Gary Thorne and Bill Clement.

Gary: I understand we have a celebrity in the audience tonight. John Cusak is here.
Bill: It's always good to have celebrities attending hockey games.

Throughout the rest of the night, every time something interesting would happen, the cameras would zoom on John Cusak to get his reaction. The announcers would make note of it, you know, celebrities, hockey, etc.

You sort of had the feeling from the way the announcers were talking that they weren't quite sure why this was important. Usually, when there's a celebrity, the announcers would say, "I always liked him in such and such a movie, etc." None of that.

Finally, the camera zoomed in on John Cusak for the umpteenth time:

Bill: Gary, I finally have to ask... who's John Cusak?
Gary: I don't have a clue. I was hoping you'd know.

Wow, I've really opened a can of worms ;)

I'm also quite fond of John Cusack and Christopher Walken. Hugh Jackman can be hot- he was incredible in Van Helsing, but sometimes he looks too, how can I say it.....soft. Jeremy Piven is another one :)

For the longest time, I had a crush on Matt Hyson, AKA Spike Dudley or Brother Runt, from wrestling. He's hardly what you'd call classic beauty but I just felt drawn to him. Then I got to know him and realized "Oh, yeah, he's a freak, I'm a freak. That's why we get along." But I like him more in the sense of just a friendly companion rather than a love interest.

I don't really have anyone on my list that isn't a wrestler, though, heh heh. Anyone who doesn't know who Dave Batista is should go look him up though. LOL

Now, if you want a REALLY weird one, and we're talking even I wonder which concussion led to this, Knuckles the Echidna from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It's not that he's handsome or anything, he's a damn cartoon, for goodness sakes, but there's just something about a surly, irritable, antisocial bastard who'd punch a hole through you as soon as look at you that appeals for some reason. Gee, I dunno why...that's so unlike me.

This thread needs some gender balance, I think. (Man-crushes notwithstanding.)

If I were a fanboy: Jewel Staite (Kaylee from Firefly/Serenity) or Summer Glau (River.) I'd say Gina Torres but then either Laurence Fishburne or Wash would kick my ass...that'd be bad. Eva Green from Casino Royale, while we're talking about things that Will Never Happen.

If I were an active activist type: Janeane Garofalo. But the political discussions would sink that, even though we are on the same wavelength on many issues. (The difference being that in the end, I just don't give a damn about a lot of the stuff.)

If I didn't just rent foreign films: Julie Delpy, Irene Jakob, Juliette Binoche, Franka Potente, Penelope Cruz (from Abre Los Ojos, not so much from Vanilla Sky. That's just me, I guess.)

If I had to explain, you still wouldn't get me: Sue Scott (actor from Prairie Home Companion) Lily Tomlin (oh, the reactions that one gets! "  :( )

Laptop battery is running low, which is probably a good thing because I could go on...

I have a thing for CSI and the Law & Order's so bear with me...

David Caruso in CSI: Miami...his diction is S-E-X-Y.
Vincent D'Ofrio in Law & Order: CI....oh my....cuuuuuutttee and hot.

Also, it goes without saying that I've had an eternal crush on David Duchovny since 1994, X-Files, season 1. 10 cookies to anyone who knows who Nicholas Lea is...sigh...now THAT'S a babe....

I'm jumping on the Alan Rickman bandwagon with both feet. Although, my mom's favorite movie is "Die Hard" (NO KIDDING! My mom LOVES that movie! We all don't know why. ) I've always been fascinated with the German terrorist he plays. I finally fell in love with him when he played Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility. If I really was a female these are the guys:
Anthony Kiedis of the Chili Peppers
Sacha Baron Cohen of Borat fame

Jim Morrison of the Doors
Chris Cornell of Soundgarden
and

Now seeing as I'm a guy, I have to add this:

Natalie Portman
Meg White of the White Stripes
Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth
Janis Joplin, do not ask why but I have some strange attraction to hippie singer girls
Demi Moore (More or less because of my friend looking a lot like her)
And Monica Belluci from the Matrix movies

Alan Rickman, especially as Snape. But he was awesome in Robin Hood as the sheriff as well! Love his voice.

And then there's Eddie Izzard, high heels and makeup and all.... He's almost around my mum's age though, and if I ever managed to get get close to him, she'd steal him away in a second! She adores him as well, after I made the mistake of letting her watch all my Izzard DVD's.

And David Bowie in Labyrinth. I was never a Bowie fan before I saw Labyrinth, I guess it must be something with his awesome costume and hair, and the whole "kinda evil" thing, much like Snape.

I'm the sort of person who fangirls about all sorts of guys, from all over the place.

Here are some of the ones that I couldn't really explain.

Stephen Tyler of Aerosmith. I first noticed him while watching the movie Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band way back around 1980. He was the singer for the evil band at the final battle, but he isn't even credited in IMDb.

Alan Rickman. I first saw him in the original Die Hard movie. He was so villainous. And he made a truly malevolent Sherriff of Nottingham. And Galaxy Quest was outstanding, too. Then he got the part of Snape. He is a perfect Snape. I was a Snape fan from the books, and him being cast in the role was brilliant.

Christopher Walken. What can I say? He's just awesome in everything! I think seeing him as Max Zoran in A View to a Kill was the first time I noticed him. He can play any role he gets. I really liked him in the Prophecy movies. There is a movie out there called The Addiction that has to be the worst piece of pseudo-psychological tripe posing as a vampire flick I have ever had the misfortune of wasting my life with. And I've seen/read some truly execrable vampire fiction. Walken has a 5-minute part in it, and it is the only part of the entire movie that doesn't make me want to gouge my eyes out.

Fun Fact: Walken tends to have fits of giggles when he gives interviews. He is someone I'd really like to have the opportunity to just hang out with.

I see a my whole list all over this thread, except for one: the caveman on the Geico commercial (the one in the airport). :ashamed: Now that's strange.

Krychek!

I had a total bad boy thing for...Dave Lister in Red Dwarf - now that's unexplainable.

Yep, gotta love Krycek! (Me? An X-Phile? No.) I will always have a thing for Mulder- always. :)
And just so you know- I had a thing for Lister for awhile as well... I definately can't explain it either...

Ack. I totally forgot to mention Craig Charles! (Lister). I adore his accent, and Lister is a great character.

How about Ogre Fiona. For some reason, I always figured her as being more attractive than Princess Fiona (we're talking Shrek, for those who don't know where I'm coming from).

Raps, I think it's that whole being comfortable with who she is thing that makes Fiona in her ogre form more attractive than the 'commercially pretty' Fiona.

Dunno - even when she was fresh to her ogre form and uncomfortable with it, she was pretty cute.

Jewel Staite (Kaylee from Firefly/Serenity)

Huh? How does that qualify as 'Unexplained allure'? She's practically the personification of the word 'cute'.

And since someone mentioned man crushes :

Jason Carter ( Marcus Cole from Babylon 5 ) : This one doesn't need explaining.

Nigel Bennett ( Prince from Lexx , LaCroix from Forever Knight ) . Seen him in 4-5 different programs ,each time playing exactly the same type of person. I'm beginning to think that he's not acting at all , and is simply the most evil person in Canada. Also has a truely amazing voice.

Cartoon characters count? Because there's just something about Jane Lane . . .

Well, if we're gonna go with drawn people, then I have to say Kurosaki Ichigo and Sado "Chad" Yasutora from Bleach. And Johnny Bravo. And Yakko from Animaniacs...

Okay, I have to admit, I'm a randy old lady, and I have my short list of "Totally Hot and Beautiful Men"...and most of them are not unexplained, because they are hotter than the hinges on the gates of hell: Keith Hamilton Cobb, Naveen Andrews, Oded Fehr, Tom Welling, etc. Wolverine (no, not Hugh Jackman. I mean, the actor's pretty hot, but the character...rowr.).

But the ones I can't really explain are Jeff Goldblum and Gene Wilder (no kidding, I think Gene Wilder is one of the sexiest men alive. No, I'm serious.) And Jeff Goldblum...well, if someone was going to play my husband in a movie, it would be Jeff Goldblum. :eyewaggle: If it were based on looks alone, it would have to be Slash...but Jeff Goldblum's mannerisms, nerdy braininess, charisma, dark good looks, the whole package pretty much CHANNELS the man I married.

Here is a partial list of The Men I think is most beautiful:

Alan Rickman (Yes, I'm on that bandwagon). I loved in him in the movie, "Quiggley Down Under", yes it has Tom Selleck in it, but that one scene - Alan Rickman's all in black, with tiiiiight pants, and he puts his hands in his pockets. *faints*

Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley). Have no idea why, but I think he's one of the most beautiful boys I've ever seen.

Jeremy Brett. In the 1980's and early 1990's, he played Sherlock Holmes in the various tv shows of all the stories of Sherlock Holmes. For me, he was beautiful (even to the end, when he was having lots of heart problems & he was puffing up not from weight but from his heart) and he was the epitome of what Sherlock Holmes would look like if he were real.

Leonard Nimoy. Those Vulcan ears. enough said.

Eric Szamanda aka Greg Sanders from CSI. He's just too too too cute. I love the way how he plays the geeky, I want to be taken seriously guy.

David Caruso. LOOOOOOVE him as H on CSI: Miami. OOOOOO!

Jonathan Togo aka Ryan Wolfe of CSI: Miami. He could be Greg Sanders' little brother. (just cockier).

I thought I was the only one who loved Vincent D'Onofrio. I like him in the movie "Blood Sport".

Willem Dafoe. Don't know. There's just something about him. It must be the eyes.

Cillian Murphy. He's beautiful! He's Irish! He can be charming and creepy all at the same time. *swoons*

I'll second Christopher Meloni, for sure. Can't explain it either, but damn.

I also heart Seth Green--I will always remember him as Oz from Buffy. :D

And Jack Black reminds me of my ex-boyfriend, but I do think he's adorable.

Jumping on the Hugh Laurie and Alan Rickman bandwagons.

And to add one of my own, I have a complete and total girl-crush on Neko Case. Oh and an odd one--Jonathan Davis of KORN. He reminds me of one of my college roomies, who I still love dearly (though mostly as a friend).

Tom Welling... Hugh Jackman.

Yeah, Tom Welling is a no brainer- he is stunningly beautiful. I was SO glad when I found out he's actually about 30 so I could quit feeling dirty about lusting over a guy who plays a High School kid.

Hugh Jackman, for me, is unexplained as I really never liked him much. I'd hear all these women going on about how hot he is and I'd think, "Meh."
But just recently I was putting away some movies at work and I was looking at the box to some movie of his and it just sorta hit me. He's hot.
I rented Kate & Leopold that same day.

Oh, Kate and Leopold! I love that movie!

Thank you for telling me that. I almost was unwilling to admit how unbelievably beautiful I think that man is because I thought he was very young and it made me feel dirty. :o What does he do, sleep in vat or formaldehyde? He must have the same arrangement as Dorian Gray.

Yikes... can you believe I had to look up who Tom Welling was? But, yeah, he's a hottie for sure.

Yeah... Nigel Bennett is deliciously evil, all right.

Wilder was a funny, funny man. And everything I ever saw him in made me think he was really smart, too. And how could you help but like Goldblum?

Alan Rickman (Yes, I'm on that bandwagon). I loved in him in the movie, "Quiggley Down Under", yes it has Tom Selleck in it, but that one scene - Alan Rickman's all in black, with tiiiiight pants, and he puts his hands in his pockets. *faints*

Oooh... I'll have to re-watch Quiggley. I guess I was too busy watching Tom the last time I saw it.

And Jeremy Brett practically oozed Sherlock. All the sly little looks, like he knew you didn't have the faintest clue, but he'd pretend you knew what was going on anyway. He was so intense.

Hugh Jackman, for me, is unexplained as I really never liked him much. I'd hear all these women going on about how hot he is and I'd think, "Meh."
But just recently I was putting away some movies at work and I was looking at the box to some movie of his and it just sorta hit me. He's hot.

I still haven't seen Kate & Leopold. If I was smart, I'd add it to my NetFlix queue right now....

Well, if we're gonna go with drawn people, then I have to say Kurosaki Ichigo and Sado "Chad" Yasutora from Bleach. And Johnny Bravo. And Yakko from Animaniacs...

Uh-oh... you want to include animated characters?

Put me down for Jonny Bravo, and Wacko Warner. And Chad (Ichigo is a no-brainer), although I'm actually a big Uruhara fan. Then there's Shikamaru and Jiraiya from Naruto. Mousse from Ranma 1/2. Lexington from Gargoyles. And way back, I had a thing for Max Sterling (Maximilian Jenius) from Robotech.

Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil 4.
If I was a guy or gay: Lara Croft and Blood Rayne.

Truly unexplained:
Kain in Blood Omen 2. (before he had hooves. lol.)

Yummy.

Okay, if you are forcing me to admit which cartoon character I find attractive...Dryden Fossa from Escaflowne.

You guys seeing a pattern here? ;)

Oh. I almost forgot...we were having a "hottest guy in kid's television" conversation...yeah, I know: sad....and my vote is for Dan Zane.

And just as an fyi, Dan Zane gets added to my list anyway.

I've always been attracted to guys with very strong jaws, and I find a lot of wrestlers have that. Plus I like guys who don't get much attention, so I'll post some of my faves.

None of these will shock Mysty.

Billy Kidman. http://img.majidonline.com/pic/24684/billy_daryoush-upload-konande.jpg

Raven, the man I quote in my signature.

Johnny Nitro. This one might be a little bit obvious though. Not featured in picture: Legs that run into next week.

That's all I can think of right now.
