Well, it's time to clear out the inactive accounts again.
Any account that has no post count and has not logged in for ninety days is in a group that has just been sent an email saying their account will be deleted. In two weeks time, there will be a reminder. Two weeks after that, they go poof.
Instructions on how to retain the account are in the email.

Wahoooooooooo! I'm free. No banning me for not being active.
Pays to post once in a while.
Speaking of which, why do you clean out the non posters? Does it cost less? Some people may not post as much, because they have nothing to say or add. Not very fair to them.

There's "not posting as much", and posting never. I'm sure having hundreds of inactive accounts bogs down the server.
Also, when I have nothing to say or add, I don't, and my account is still alive and well.

As server overheads go, it's not a huge burden. However, it's still there. It also blocks other users who may want to use the service from choosing certain names.

Namespace. The number 1 reason to clear out the deadwood.

Plus, if you're regularly logging in, you're still active even if you don't ever post.
On one board I admin, the pruning system deletes people who have no posts and haven't logged in for a certain time.

I admit it - I love to lurk. I read all of the new stories on here on a nearly daily basis, but thankfully rarely have anything worth posting.

Well, then, welcome aboard and post when it suits you ^_^
I think this measure is aimed more at people (and especially bots) that register, but don't DO anything...I lurk on occasion, myself, but I don't actually *register* until I'm ready to post something insightful or just plain silly. Better yet, both ^_^
And in any case, a lurker who has registered, but hasn't even visited the site in three months isn't likely to come back...

So how many this time round Raps?

Believe it or not, some of us actually do come back after longer than three months. ;)
I did mean to post when I registered.. but then I spent too much time reading and completely forgot what I was going to post. :o

Almost four hundred, but I still have to take out the people who have responded to say they'd like to keep their accounts.

I've been away for longer than a few months without posting, myself.
But that's what the emails are for; to let people who just haven't had anything to add keep their accounts. :)

Whew, just checked my account (and spam folder) and am not in danger of being deleted! I wasn't sure since I haven't posted since I joined, but I do log in and lurk almost every day.
This site helps keep me sane! :)

As long as your post count isn't zero, you're in no danger.

Out of curiousity, MadMike, what about people who have made a post or two in Off Topic?

I make sure those are kept. I put them in a group called "Do Not Delete."

But my post count was zero, until yesterday, that is. I think that was because I only posted in the "Welcome New Member" (or something like that...) section. Now I'm really safe, I guess (2 whole posts - yay! lol)

Have sent the final reminder - we delete inactive accounts in two weeks.

My hubby was reading his email yesterday and says (w/ a perplexed look),"Customers Suck is deleting my account," I told him I didn't know he had one... apparently, he didn't know he had one either. LOL

And thus, just one of the reasons that Raps sent out emails.
To remind hyper-lurkers that they signed up sometime in the distant past.

i log in from time to time, and this is pretty much my first post.
i do not post because i'm a horrible tactless person. even when i'm kind and attempt some tact, it still doesn't go over as well as people would like. so, unless i have something to say that someone else hasn't already said, i say nothing.
i like this forum. i like it despite not posting because it's helped me deal with the stupid mind-numbing enraging frustrations that i've had to deal with when working in retail, or anything that has to do with customers. it's helped me avoid positions that would have made my life hell. it has also helped me teach my own mother and father a few things about treating others the way one would want to be treated- and that includes anyone behind a counter or with a nametag.
perhaps i'll join in a conversation and post one day- until then, i prefer to just be a little internet fly on the wall.
have a nice week y'all :) thanks for having me here :)

Believe it or not, some of us actually do come back after longer than three months. ;)Fair enough - I guess I should have expanded my statement to include the clarification: "people who haven't logged in in 3 months AND have zero posts" are whom I was referring to.
I guess I've just been a modmin at one too many boards where half of all signups were zero-posters AND never logged in more than once ~_~

That's me aswell. :D Plenty of times haven't logged in for months at a time. And then boom! Back again. But still not posting. :o
Er. Was me, should I say?
Although most zero-post lurkers probably do fit that, I have to admit. But they'll be back. As soon as they're back in retail. Yessir.
