We've just had a round of recruitment at work. It's a two-stage process with a group stage and a final face-to-face interview. The group stage involves the potential members effectively getting a chance to interview the company, but we select promising people from the groups to go on to the second stage.
Two guy from the casual workers have been through this two times already and haven't got very far. They're hard workers, but not very good at interviews. Another lad - R - was crapping himself over this stage, even though it's good fun and it was his first time.
I did a little training. All three found out today that they'd got through to the second stage! I'm decidedly happy over that.
Of course, they're going to get hints about the second one, but I'd be more than happy to give a few hints about that as well.
R amused me. He was panicking after his group stage interview. There had been two women in his group who kept trying to take over, and they had polarised views. He kept trying to get everyone's views, but they just kept ignoring him. He was convinced he would fail because of them, but instead he passed for the exact same reason. What got me is his report of how the interviewers announced at the very end that "As you may have realised, this is a team-building exercise," and most of them in the group looked rather sick at that point.
I love being in a different sort of company. Most people thought they were competing against the others in the group - instead, they could all have made it through to the second stage if they had cooperated.
