I'm a little bit freaked out right now...

Imagine this: you are standing up at a podium, reciting a story you wrote. You think you are in a coffee shop. It's dark, and you can't see anything but your story and the mike you're using to broadcast your voice all over the coffee shop.

Then someone flips on the lights and you realize you are standing in a stadium.

So, I've been doing this little blog thing, right? Average hits per day, I dunno, between twenty and forty hits a day. Fun little hobby for me, got a handful of regulars, some of whom are friends. Not a big thing.

Ran a very targeted ad on a site containing sort of similar content. And am now getting something like five to six hundred hits A DAY. :jawdrop: That's what I've been doing since Friday night. Watching the hit graph climb with my mouth hanging open in shock. I ran some ads a couple months ago, and got some new readers, but nothing like this.

Evidently, the site I ran it on is a VERY SUCCESSFUL site.

I mean, this is nice and everything, but seriously, I'm a bit freaked out by this. I didn't expect this sort of attention. Now I have this sort of weird stage fright thing going on. :eek:

Not like there is any pressure now. :help:
Well, on the upside, there is no way in hell I won't have sufficient motivation to keep up my schedule on it at this point. I seriously doubt staying motivated will be a problem.

It would be cool if it did. I just never imagined it would work quite THAT well. :) It just made me...I dunno, kind of nervous about the whole thing. In a good way, though.

About twenty-five years ago, I was quoted in an article picked up by the AP and for two weeks was getting fan mail from strangers.

My friends thought it was pretty cool, but I was completely freaked out by it. I felt like people I didn't even know had all these expectations of me that I couldn't possibly fulfill, you know?

It's scary. But you got where you are because you have talent and people are finding out and telling others about it.

EXACTLY. It's like "gee, they like what I have already written, but what if the stuff I write now does not live up to that? What if they don't like where the story goes? What if what if????

Sounds like you really got your ad dollars' worth :D I bet that'll go a long way to increasing your site hits permanently through word of mouth as well. I can see that it would be shocking to suddenly have your work spotlighted like that, but don't think you don't deserve it! I just read chapter one and I really like it so far. Looking forward to reading the rest~

Oh, and Kheldarson, you should go look at the site I am advertising on (http://www.thedreamercomic.com/)(actually, you all should, it's AMAZING and I am hooked on it). It's a wildly successful webcomic. Also, I wrote the creator telling her I loved her site and she wrote back to me. She also has some interviews out there.

I don't just love it because it's been a gold mine for me. It's an incredible bit of work that I pretty much inhaled in one sitting it was so good.

That's not to say I wouldn't be willing to talk to you about starting something, either. I certainly would.
