View Full Version : Early in the morning on my street
I took the garbage out around 2AM. I heard water running and looked to my left... and there was guy taking a whizz on the sidewalk. Okay... I know when you got to go, you got to go. But this guy was apparently walking down the street, felt the need, stopped, and whipped it out...
I went back inside, waited a half hour, and proceeded to take out my recycle bin. One of the most hideous women I've ever seen stopped at stared at my bin...
Her: OMG!
Me: [looked at her]
Her: Do you have something I can carry them in?
Me: No. (Six beer cans and 12 plastic Pepsi bottles?)
Her: Do you know how much they're worth?
Me: No.
Her: A lot. [two cents?]
Me: Um, yeah, well.
Her: Got two dollars?
Me: No.
Her: A dollar?
Me: No.
Her: I can make you very happy... I'm really good.
Oh, wow... what an interesting take on the dollar store concept... "Come on down to the Dollar Whore and get a **** for a buck."
(When I moved in here three years ago, my girlfriend liked to sit on the front steps and watch the world go by. A passerby gave her a sob story and she gave him a dollar. The guy kept coming back... "I'm hungry. The woman who lives here... she'll help me out."
"Go away. Besides, she doesn't actually live here."
"Can you give me her address or phone number?"
"Yeah. Just dial 911.")

Back when I lived in the city, I saw a few.... "interesting" at night. One time, I was taking a walk along the river, and I saw this couple that seemed to be... well, "doing something." I'll leave it at that.
Another time, I was coming back from a walk, and noticed this guy who seemed to be following me. I picked up the pace, and he did the same. I turned up my street to get to my apartment, and he did the same. I started walking really fast now, and managed to put a good bit of distance between him by the time I got to the front door. I quickly got inside, but didn't turn on the light so he wouldn't be able tell which apartment was mine. I saw him peer into the front door momentarily, and then walk away. Never saw him again after that. Weird.
I live in a much nicer area now, but I did have one weird encounter a couple of years ago. It was shortly before midnight, and I was upstairs playing on the computer, when I heard the doorbell ring. My first thought was, "Who the hell could that be, and why are they ringing my doorbell at this hour?" I opened the door slowly, and only partway. It was a guy who claimed he was almost out of gas, didn't have any money, so could I loan him a few bucks? He said he lived nearby, and that he'd pay me back. Not being born yesterday, I told him I didn't have any cash on me. Assuming he was trying this scam at every house, I wonder what happened when he got to the house at the corner, where the chief of police lives?

In our last neighborhood, I had my husband come out to met me when I was coming home, because some guy was following me home. No, I was not paranoid, he was following me. When he saw my pissed off husband standing at the door, he burned rubber trying to get out of there.
We had another guy, in the same neighborhood ring our bell at 11 PM and give us a sob story about how he was out of gas and his pregnant girlfriend was waiting in the car at the 7-11. We told him no and shut the door.
In our neighborhood now, I had a guy stop me on my way home from dropping off the little guy at school and ask me to marry him. My husband was not amused when he found out.

My mom had a similar thing happen to her. We live in a VERY quiet area...think like the proverbial white-picket fence. It was dusk/dark one night, and mom was on her way home from work. This blue VW beetle kept being basically an asswipe...weaving in and out of traffic and all. She turned into the neighborhood, and he tailed her until he flew past her, almost running her off the road. This is a neighborhood where kids routinely play in the street (because it's safe to do so), and kids are in abundance. Over 90% of the households in the neighborhood have at least one school-age child. Anyhow - we live on an off-street. The first off-street from where they were coming from. Mom turns down the street thinking he's gone, and guess who's sitting in the cul-de-sac with the lights off? Yep...him. The scary part is that our house is ON said cul-de-sac. Mom abruptly turned around and drove to dad's office and called the cops. Dad was a local politician - very well-known and liked for the most part. Police would have been there in an instant.
Turns out it was some asshole kid who lived at the other end of the nieghborhood. A few months later, we were split up between 2 cars for some reason - I think we met up somewhere or whatever. Anyhow, he came up behind my mom (who was behind my dad) and started pulling his crap. Mom calls dad to warn him. The dude FLIES past mom, and tries to pass dad. Dad didn't let him for almost a mile til asshole ran dad off the road (this is IN the neighborhood, btw). Dad got off the phone with mom and called the cops - meanwhile following the dude to his house (this is how we found out where he lived). Turns out the cops knew all about him and his antics. The worst part was that his dad came out and tried to tell the cops that the kid wasnt there, he'd never do anything wrong, blah blah blah cry cry cry. He had a hard time explaining why there was blue VW bug in the garage with the same license plate my dad reported...and why the engine was still hot. Haven't seen or heard from him in awhile. Good thing too. My brother probably would have beat him to a bloody pulp had he tried anything with him lol.
We don't get too many weirdos around here thank goodness.

I live near the police station (can see the station from my porch) and I still get crazies in my area. About 2 years ago, there was a man wandering around the neighborhood claiming he was part of some charity, he seemed a little off to me and for the whole day he kept bugging me, guy didn't come back after he saw my large dog.
I witnessed a lot of strange things in my area despite the police being right around the corner. There was the domestic abuse taking place in the house up the street from me when I saw the woman of the house fly out  and just to say 5 seconds after that the cops came. Then there was the little neighbor girl who came to my house in tears because her mother was punched by her boyfriend at the time, cops took care of that quickly. Then there was the sitter. I call him the sitter because one night while sitting out on my porch during the summer I noticed a strange man who was sitting in my neighbor's front yard; just sitting there doing absolutely nothing. The cops told all the neighbors to stay inside and as I watched from the porch, it took them a good 30 minutes to convince the guy to get up. Very weird.
My other neighbor had quite an amusing thing but scary at the time event. He woke up one morning and went to his backyard to let his dog out he finds a drunk sleeping in his hammock. The drunk woke up the exact moment my neighbor saw him. The cops caught the guy very quickly meaning that the idiot drunk took off and ran RIGHT in front of the police station.
The hilarious thing is, living near a police station you'd expect things to be quite safe yet I'm witnessing these things, at least they're on the ball thankfully. They leave the teen parties to the county sheriff.

a couple months ago, fiancee and i were driving down the road, when we saw a guy go into a doorway and start using it as a public bathroom. best part is, we weren't the only ones who saw it. the cop that drove by the same time we did saw it too. only he had to power to go back and nab the bad guys, which he proceeded to do. :D i think it was funny to watch. i understand that if you have to go, you have to go, but there is a reason parents always ask if you ahve to go to the bathroom before you leave. its cause you will get in trouble for using a doorway.

I generally don't have many strange stories that involve me because I am a big, scary guy. Well, maybe not totally scary, but I am bigger than most people. If a begger asks for money and I tell him no, they generally listen.
Anyhow, story #1: About a month ago, my brother's fiance was on her way home from class. Someone pulls behind her and flashes some police looking lights at her. Her dad is a cop (and her sis is a dispatcher) and growing up with it, something didn't seem right. She called 911 to let them know where she was at and to check and see if it was indeed an unmarked car. Dispatch told her there were no unmarked cars in the area she was in and to keep driving until a police officer could rendezvous with her. They had her blow through lights and stop signs and the car kept following her. After about a bit of crazy driving and such, she met up with the cops but the car was long gone. Since she was closer to our house at the time, she met my brother and her dad here with a police escort. They then escorted her (my bro, her dad, and police escort) to her place. Scary stuff...
Not so scary story: Last summer we went through one of our nasty-almost- living-in-the-desert heat waves here. My buddies and I headed over to the little corner liquor store by one of my buddies apartments. We cross the street and see some black dude outside the store. We thought that he might be naked, but he was far enough away that we weren't sure. As we got closer, there was no doubt that he was naked and trying to get into J's through the back door. The cops showed up a couple of minutes later. It was interesting to see a naked black dude get arrested and the precautions the police were taking.
