I had a doctor's appt. today and decided to take a cab. The cab arrives and starts going the wrong way. I point this out to the driver. We finally get to the doctor's office and I still get charged for her going the wrong way, plus over a dollar more than what was on the meter! I was ticked, but late for my appt. so I just paid it.
When I was done, I called again and the nasty man who answered the phone told me it was a 40 minute wait, do I want the cab or not. Well, his attitude, the fact that I was over charged and cab drivers who seem to get lost and still charge me for it convinced me to just walk home.
I will never call that company again! I was beyond ticked off when I got home, since I had to walk home in extreme pain, since I'm not suppose to take my pain pills without food.
It does no good to call and complain to the company, since the man who answers acts like it's fault that I get over charged and his drivers can't find their way around.

I've had some amazingly bad cab drivers. I've had ones that get lost, that love to conversate (almost exclusively through use of swears), and then there's the one that decided to beat the gates on the train crossing. Yep. He decided he didn't want to be stuck because of the train, so he accelerated to make it through.
Sure I've had good cabbies, but that guy really takes the cake. All those stereotypes in movies about New York cabbies that rip through traffic were alive and well in that guy. I was  the whole trip.

Isn't there more than one cab company in your city? I think Edmonton has about 4 or 5.

Is there only one cab company where you live?
Sorry you had such a cruddy day. Want pineapples for the cab company?
that stinks, luckily ive only had good experiences with cabs but ive only used them to get home from the airport and even then its rare in proportion to the times ive flown
speaking of cabs, whatever happened to crabbycabbie?

There is one other taxi company in town, they will be the ones I will call next time.
Hopefully, they will do a better job.

Wait, you mean taxi drivers that speak English pull this kind of crap too? I thought it was just Thai taxi drivers pretending not to understand my (admittedly not great) Thai as an excuse to go the wrong way and make the trip twice as long as it should be.
Sorry you had to deal with that. I have found that the only recourse is to be bitchy and sit where I can see where we're going so I can give very insistent (and loud) directions.
In the States, you could always call the BBB, but it's probably less hassle to talk with your feet and take your business to the other compnay.

Only two companies in Edmonton actually. Barrel, Yellow and Prestige are the same company.
Of course, if a company screws you over, you can complain to the city. Gotta love the cab laws here.:D

According to Henry Rollins, it's because the cab drivers are all working for "Love Houses." He has a very funny spiel about the Thai taxi driver who kept wanting to take him to a love house, but Henry made him go to the zoo instead.

I guess that's why I always use Co-op! They seem to be cheaper... but every driver looks the same anyway. :p

Yeah, but the city won't allow more cabs to operate--so good luck trying to get a ride to the other side of the city on a Friday night.
