Sometimes my life seems like a country music song.
A year ago, I met a woman who I well and truly disliked... and she disliked me even more. But, as luck would have it, an unusual set of circumstances developed over the past few months and we wound up almost sort of kind of getting along. And that, to the surprise of both of us -- and everyone who knew us -- led to a genuine fondness for each other. Some more unusual events followed, and we realized we were quite taken with each other.
We both were impressed by how unlikely it all was. It seemed almost as though some unseen force was guiding events... destiny, if you will.
And so, we made plans to have our first date be a somewhat formal affair... a Christmas party.
By all accounts, it was super party... the food was great, the music was good, and she looked fantastic. But I wouldn't know... I wasn't there.
Rough night at work, a lot of stuff that needed taken care of in the morning, blah, blah, blah. I finally got to bed in time to take a brief nap... alas, I forget to set my alarm or turn my cell phone on.
Destiny is a fickle bitch.
Still, I love destiny... it's so much nicer to blame it on that than to deal with the fact that I'm in my forties and I'm too dumb to set an alarm.
