I know this has been done alot, but im curious.

Does anyone know any carb friendly ways to prepare a steak, with just a skillet.
No grill, no griddle plate, and hopefully no crappy forman grills(i do have one, but it dries meat out real fast).

I was wondering if something simple like a little olive oil, and maybe fresh garlic, rubbed in, and then just browned in the skillet to a comfortable done-ness.. would work, and what other variations i should try.

I would like to keep the cost down as well, just because this is going to get expensive enough eating low-carb for a month or 2.

Also, does anyone know any places where i can find very easy, very quick recipes that fall under simular guidelines?

Thanks in advance.

The idea of olive oil and garlic would definately work.

Hubby and I will sometimes rub the steak in butter and minced garlic, cook it for a very short amount of time, and then he will pour Irish Whiskey in the pan and light it up. Very yummy stuff. I don't know where the idea of butter came from, I think he saw it in a cookbook, but it is sooooo good. Hmm, now I'm thinking about steak for dinner! ;)

I didn't check out all of these, but a Google search for "steak recipes" turned up several promising-looking links...

Good luck and bon appetit! :)

I actually thought up about sautee'ing mushrooms, and onions, in the pan, then cooking a steak marinated with olive oil and maybe a clove of garlic. it ought to be interesting. ill be happy if i can just do this without smoking the apartment...again. hehe

If you totally run out of ideas, you could try www.recipesource.com
They have a whole section on low-carb recipes/menus which look interesting.

Personally, I think olive oil and garlic sounds good- we would probably add a little lime or lemon juice at our place.

definitely olive oil and garlic - and a few chilli flakes - nothing like a little bit of tingle!

cook it in a skillet over medium heat, on both sides, until its done. Eat with steak sauce.

Cut into small chunks, and sautee over high heat with bell peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes and zucchini. Season with garlic and olive oil and eat sizzling hot.

Make Steak Diane: place steak between wax paper sheets, pound to 1/3" thickness. Heat in small saucepan 2 tbsp butter, 4 tbsp finely chopped shallots and cook until shallots are lightly browned. Add 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce and heat to bubbling. Keep the sauce hot. cook steak in another skillet with a little oil or butter, then serve with sauce poured over it and salt and pepper.

steak with hot sweet onions: In small bowl, combine 2 tbsp honey and 1/2 tbsp mustard; drizzle over onions(3 large ones, cut into 1/4 " thick slices). Sprinkle lightly with salt, paprika and pepper. Fold foil loosely around onions and seal edges tightly. bake for 30 minutes at 375 or so, until tender. Cook steak in skillet and serve with hot onions on top.

if you want a really tender steak

throw an acid into the marinade (but only if your going to be marinading it for 30 minutes or less or it will start to cook the steak)

an acid like redwine vinegar or lemon/lime juice

if you find your george forman grill to drying, try grilling the steak with a thin thin slice of critris either side (we use lemon cause were already using it on the marinade)

kyle does all our meat on the foreman grill (never found it too drying) and throws wostershire sauce, half a lemon, garlic, olive oil, black pepper and honey into a glad bag, drop in meat, seal, smoosh around, throw in fridge for 30 minutes

if its lamb steaks he adds rosemary
if its beef he adds a tiny smidge of chilli powder or some paprika
if its chicken he adds chinese 5 spice and soya sauce

spices and herbs are a GREAT way to add flavour without calories or ahem..carbs
