We got a box of sugarfree Girl Scout cookies up here in the newsroom today (Little Brownies). Me and the other clerk, "J", each sampled one and agreed that they were just about the worst thing we ever tasted. (Quote: "It tastes like when I was little and ate Slim-Fast straight out of the can.")
After a few minutes, I started noticing my stomach was getting a little...annoyed. So I picked up the box to see if there was anything in it that might be screwing with my digestive track and found this neat little message under the list of ingrediants.
*Excess Consumption May Have a Laxative Effect.
 :jawdrop: :spew:
Bad pun intended, I shit you not. Written right there on the box.
Needless to say, I'll be avoiding the sugarfree Girl Scout Little Brownie cookies. Not only do they taste bad, but they make you trot! *snickers* Or, as one of the reporters put it, "Little Brownies become big brownies!"
Now to pawn them off on some of the reporters...

If they tasted that bad, how come you ate enough to get that effect? Well, unless they have a very different vew as to what is excess and what isn't, of course...

Well, it may be that Mysty had just enough to set her system start working, rather than the full blown "gotta go" effect. Remember, sugar-less gum can do the same thing if you have enough of it.

Mmm - never tried that. I've never been a gum chewer.
Now, fingernails. They can be awesomely good fun to chew...

Sugar Free jelly bellies do the same thing. On those I think its more then about 10 or 12 and you better not be stuck on the freeway if ya know what I mean.

In my opinion, sugar-free ANYTHING tastes nasty. That aspartame taste is horrible.

Aspartame makes me sick to my stomach. Not like...bowel problems, but stomach cramps and all. I think I'm intolerant to it - my Nana is allergic, and I tend to get stuff from that side of the family.
That's fine though, because aspartame (or any artificial sweetener) is quite dangerous. Splenda is safer, but it still makes me sick.

What's really sad is I only ate ONE cookie. And I used to eat out of dumpsters so it's not like I have a weak stomach. It's THAT bad.
Stomach is STILL making noise, six hours later. Urck.

I hate anything that's "sugar free".
That's why I hate diet soda. No matter what the ads promise, it always tastes like driveway sealer and crankcase oil with a little citrus or cherry flavor.

Which is wierd, because my co-worker thinks that Diet Coke tastes better than regular Coke. Of course, he also thinks that Vanilla Diet Coke is the best thing under the sun, so take that with a grain of salt.
Me? I doubt that I could stand the taste of a sugar-free cookie, and I hate diet soft drinks.

I agree with him. Diet Coke is infinitely nicer than ordinary Coke - I find ordinary Coke is so sugary it makes my teeth hurt. There is no call to mess up perfectly nice Diet Coke with that vanilla nonsense, though. Or the cherry. Yuck.

I try to avoid sugar-free like the plague, unless it's gum. I think I'm afraid of some of the stuff that I've heard on the news about aspartame.

I agree with Fashion Lad- if it's sugar-free, it isn't really a cookie!
I sometimes have stomach issues with aspartame, but could never pin it down to anything specific or a particular amount, so I just avoid it entirely now.
If you're looking for a GOOD-tasting treat with a laxative effect, try black licorice.(the natural stuff is the best) ;)

See, now here's a perfect example of how tastes differ from individual to individual.
IMO, Black Licorice is the taste of DEATH.
My first thought on reading that was "I thought you said "good tasting". Heh. Sorry, but it's been a long-standing joke with all my friends. None of us like black licorice.

On a humerous note...if you eat the raspberry-flavoured blue liquorice, your poo turns a delightful shade of green.
No kidding. :D

Sugar-free anything can have a laxative effect. You gotta be careful.

You wanna talk interesting shades of poo, my parents bought this bulk drink crystal stuff, 4 flavours. Each one would do something different. And it would never be the shade of the drink. Peach turned you green, orange went blue, grape went red I think. I can't remember the last. Lemme tell you, the first time it happened, was "OMG WHAT'S WRONG?!?!?!!" :o

Okay. After reading this thread, I've decided it's much healthier for me to go to McDonalds and down four double cheeseburgers, extra grease, hold the meagar vegetation. Despite the jokes, those don't make it look like I groked the heart of Joseph and his Technicolor Dream Coat.

as an aside cough drops carry the same warning-menthol is bad for the tummy in large quantities-
Oh and never give your 1 year old concord Grape Juice, unless you want to panic, and take the kid to the ER thinking they have internal bleeding:eek:
spaghettios and whole peas are um interesting though*

I think the "laxative effect" is perhaps a result of a fat substitute. Sugar substitutes like aspartame can taste icky to some people, but they don't create the same hilarious results as fat substitutes. Case in point:

Really funny rant. But beware, its GROSS.

Eating a whole watermelon over the course of a day can produce interesting coloration and pattern, too...
By the way, why are raspberry-flavored things almost always blue?

The laxative effects of sugar free candy is due to any number of artificial sweeteners ending in "ol"...manitol, malitol, xylitol, etc. Some people are extremely intolerant of them, some folks can eat more than others without any effect.
The head of the HR department at one of my past jobs ate and ENTIRE bag of Hersey's sugar free bars, oblivious to what he was doing to himself. He'd kind of pissed us off earlier in the week, so we thought it was pretty funny that he just about shat himself to death.
Disclaimer: I swear I had NOTHING to do with the chocolate being left in his path. Really, I didn't. This was the best revenge...the kind that just happens without any effort from me.

My guess is to differentiate between all the "reds:" cherry, strawberry, etc. One less red food makes things easier.
