Is it just me? I can sleep all day, maybe get up to read a bit - and I'm still tired. I know I'm slightly out of shape, but I can't see this being the cause.

I'm more tired now that I'm working 37-40 hours a week than I was when I was working 65. How is this possible? I don't eat take out more than once a month. I eat soup, fruit, take vitamins, and drink water or diet anything. I do eat meat - but not much and not often. Maybe once or twice in an entire week. I prefer seafood if I can have it.

Today I'm off. I intended on going to the farm I volunteer at. I could not get up. I was exhausted beyond belief and my body aches all over - but I'm not sick.

I'll be 31 on 2/14...maybe it's just signs of getting older? *shrugs*

Anyone else feel this way?

Had your Iron levels checked lately? That's one strong possibility I can think of.
I have a genetic form of Anemia so I'm ALWAYS Anemic. When my Iron levels drop off I become exhausted and can sleep all the time.
It gets so bad sometimes that you'd think I was Narcoleptic.

Oh, and just because you're taking vitamins with Iron added doesn't mean you can't become Anemic. You may need to get a better Iron (Ferreous Sulfate) pill from your doctor.

Get your blood sugar levels checked - diabetes can cause tiredness, though there may be few visible symptoms at first. Generally speaking, get thee to a doctor. There are several conditions that could be causing this.

Or, possibly a mild depression, too. I was kinda unmotivated and constantly tired and looking it for a little while after I heard my application was rejected for grad school.

Don't oversleep. I know that sounds like really stupid advice, but really, sleeping TOO much is bad. On the days where I get maybe 5 hours of sleep at most, I feel wide awake. On days like today where I get nearly 12 hours of sleep, I'm still extremely tired. It's odd, but it works for me somehow.

get a blood test if you can, sounds like glangela fever to me. I had similar symptoms; I would get up after a FULL nights sleep and would feel dead to the world, aching all over and just awful. In the end I went to the doctor and got a few blood tests done, I was found to have glangela fever. One thing I learn is that some people go through life completely normal and find out randomly that at some point in their life they had it, but they didn't even notice, other people their bed ridden for weeks sometimes months, it's different for everyone so just check yourself out.

I'm the same way, Luna. For me, it's a mix of depression, bad diet, abnormal work hours and tons of stress.
If you can, go for a walk. Get the blood moving. Get out of the house.
I've started doing that. I'll walk in the mornings, or evenings if it's not too dark, and I get out of the house and go someplace. Anyplace. My favorite place is a park in the next town, by a lake. It's the one I take Emily to when she's over. It's a gorgeous place with a boardwalk on the lake; great for alligator spotting.

Are you going to sleep at the same time each night? A constant 'bedtime' can make a huge difference.

The other thing id suggest is see if you are sleeping near something making a noise at night - water heater, central heating etc.
Maybe you were so tired before that you slept through it, but now youre working less hours its interrupting your sleep? You need 1 or 2 hours of uninterupted sleep to start REM sleep which is where you mentally recharge.

I'm the same way, Luna. For me, it's a mix of depression, bad diet, abnormal work hours and tons of stress.

Me too...I take anti-depressants, but I eat way too much junk and am prone to anxiety (though I'm tons better than I was 3 years ago). Plus I don't get to see my friends as much which makes me hide in the house more.

I thought I'd get better when I got out of the store and started working a regular M-F schedule (7-3:30) but I still slept ALL day on Saturdays. I still just couldn't fall asleep before midnight most of the time. Just after New Year's I switched my hours to 8-4:30 so I could get a little more sleep; I'm less tired during the week but I still slept till 3 this past Saturday. Sunday's I tend to be up by 11, maybe cuz I sleep so late the day before?

I've been trying to walk lately too, we have a treadmill in the basement. It's going, shall we say, slowly.... When it's nice I go to the park near work after I get out but now it's too cold and getting dark when I leave work. But when I do it I feel a little better.

Getting a check up can't hurt. Thyroid problems could be a factor too...that's the first thing my doc checked before I went on medication.

PS I was 31 in October but I was tired long before that... I'm in Jersey too-- I wonder if we're near each other...

Is this a recent thing? I ask because I get the same way in the winter. Mild SAD (seasonal affective disorder), basically all it is for me is a total lack of motivation to do anything on top of being able to sleep 20 hours a day. Comes from a lack of vitamin D, vitamin D is produced in your body through exposure to the sun, so when it gets dark and dreary in the winter your vitamin D levels drop.

Since I also recently discovered some bone density issues, I am now taking a calcium w/ D supplement, and it seems to be helping a little.

They say if you get some sunshine each day...even just 20 minutes might help. Open your window shades first thing in the morning and let the light in...

My doctor told me that my being tired all the time was due to lack of B12. It use to be due to anemia, but now the blood work shows it's now due to the lack of B12.

You might want to talk to your doctor about doing blood work to check for anemia and low B12.

I would get plenty of sun, if there was sun to get. I walk to and from work, and frequently go outside at lunch. But New England winters are nothing if not dark & grey. Today for example, the street lights outside work went on at around 1:00 pm.

Guess I should call and make an appointment for blood work then. Ack. I hate hate hate doctors. Every one in my family that has had health problems, that was given a "clean bill of health" - has died. So I'm reluctant to go, but I think I have to.

Thanks everyone - I'll try to get an appointment within the next week or so and I'll let everyone know how it goes.

HUGS to all of you!

Just my 2 cents.

In addition tot he blood work, ask them to check your thyroid levels. My mom was hypothyroid (not enough of the hormone was being produced). This left her tired and less motivated a lot of the time. Once she was put on hormone replacements for it she could notice an improvment.

Do you snore real bad (a sign of possible sleep apnea) sleep apnea also doesn't allow you to get a good nights sleep.

Do you wake up a lot during the night, I do and it sucks.

As far as raps and the idea of diabetes goes, are you constantly thirsty, peeing like a pregnant women. Those are huge indicators. I honestly can't remember if I had trouble when My blood sugar was real high (before I got the diabetes under control). But it could be an idea.

Good luck with it.

This is why my sleeping habits are wrecked. Probably after one of several whacks in the cranium as a teen. I'm a 3 a.m. to noon kind of sleeper myself, but what with working 8-5 or something similar most of the time, I'm always tired. I'm kind of used to it, though, and I've gotten to where I can sleep ANYWHERE. Haybale, roof of a car, floor, whatever, it's all good.
