I want to recommend everyone do there taxes through Tax Act, on the web. I found this place last year through IRS.gov. If you don't mind waiting 7-10 days for your refund, then this is the place. I'm getting back a large refund and just spent $12.95 to have them done and electronically file them, I'll receive the refund in whole in 7-10 days. http://mygeyiq.com/forum/images/smilies/w00t.gif

H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt, and other tax preparation places can kiss my royal, rosy red ass. They want to charge $300 -$600 to get your money in 1-7 days. I think not!! I am not facing eviction or repossession, so, I can wait.
If you make less than $53,000.00 a year combined, then your federal taxes could be free, you will just have a small fee for your state taxes.
If you have an offset, then you will have longer to wait.
I hate to see people lose a lot of money just to get there money. If you have another way of doing your taxes and not spend over $50.00, then good for you.

I have a tax preparer do my taxes that was recommended to me by my sister. She sits down with me and talks over my deductions. Yes, I have deductions! And she charges $50, which is pretty good around my part of the world for tax preparations.
I have weird stuff going on with my taxes, because of the kind of job I do I can deduct certain expenses that I wouldn't dream of deducting otherwise. Also, my massive undergrad and grad school loans have interest that I've paid over the year that I can get back. It's just a lot of stuff that I wouldn't know how to go about doing. For me, the professional tax help and expense is worth it not to get audited later.

I do mine myself. this year all the stars aligned and I got mine done and in and should be another week or two before I get my return. Fortunately i'm not in such dire needs that I have to have my taxes back so quick.
I've done my taxes since I graduated high school and started working.

I have my own personal accountant who does my taxes for free. :D His name's Dad and he does a really good job. :) Ok, maybe that doesn't work for everyone. I know, I know, I should learn to do it myself. :o

I'm a 1040-EZ all the way. It's too much work to deduct my measly $50.00 student loan interest.

a freind of mine works at h & r, so I'll probably go bug her once I get my W-2s, I've only got about $600 left on my car so I'll probably throw a few hundred at that to help my credit score and get a new suspension as well

American taxes confuse me
Hehe it's almost like "Here are all the tax rules....and then here are all the exceptions to said rules." Of course things aren't helped because the government tweaks the tax code every freaking year.
Taxes I and II were the most confusing college courses I've ever taken

Don't worry, they confuse most of us Americans, too.

Additional thought for all the Americans out there:
Don't forget to take your ONE TIME ONLY telephone excise tax credit. I believe the standard credit is $40.00 for single, $60.00 for married, and $80.00 for married with dependants.
Turbo Tax Basic - no SD state income tax - I don't like having to pay just to file electronically so I go snail mail. I can wait for my refund check.

American taxes confuse meTax codes are supposed to be confusing.
I've used TurboTax online for several years. Always wind up with a small federal refund and a debt to the state of about the same, so I'm basically even which is as it should be.
