So I was figuring on finishing getting the rest of my cavaties filled in the next few weeks when one tooth starts giving off a dull to medium amount of pain off and on. So today I call the dentist and get an emergency appt. this afternoon to make sure it's fine. Turns out the pulp's infected and I need a root canal. So anyone got anything to help me "prepare" for this??? I've been through wisdom tooth pullings and countless fillings. Never went this far before and I'm nervous as hell about it. I'd rather just get it over with but I have to take antibiotics for the next two weeks and call another dentist tomorrow to make an appointment.

I've had a root canal on a back bottom tooth and to tell you the truth, it wasnt bad at all. It was a relief from the constant pain from the bad tooth. For me it was a little worse then a filling. I also have a bridge on my front upper teeth(a present from my abuisive ex husband, but thats neither here nor there) and I still have trouble with mostly just sensitity. Just be sure to take your pain meds and good luck.

I've never actually had a root canal, 2 deep filling which were very nearly root canals. One of the ladies at work had to have a root canal, and she said it was a relief from the pain, and she preferred that to losing a tooth, and that as long as she took pain killers when the pain got too bad between appointments, she was OK. Apparently 1 root canal takes 4 appointments??? (well, that's how long it took her with her dentist)

Good luck, I am sure you will be fine!!!
