How hot is it where you are? It is opressively hot here. The heat index is 106 and the humidity is almost as high. I keep my kids in all day until the evening, which isn't much better. The humidity is so bad at night you could have sworn there was a rain shower, cause everything is soaked.
My two boys don't really care, they want to go out anyways. They usually come back soaked. If they were swimming I wouldn't care, but they are running around and riding there bike. I try to make them drink water but they are usually on the go. I told them that it is tooooooo hot for them to be running around during the day and that they cannot go outside anymore, at least until the evening.
I had to go to get diapers yesterday and it was like this at 9am. I don't have AC in the van and damn was it hot. I don't have breathing problems, but this heat will make you feel like you do. They are predicting this for the next 48 hours. My electric bill is going to be outrageous, it has run non-stop for the past month.
I usually run in the mornings, but I will not go out until this heat breaks. Even the morning are bad around here. I don't want to pass out on the road somewhere. http://http://www.bildschirmarbeiter.com/images/krank2.gif
What is it like where you are at. I am glad I don't live any further south, I heard that it is worse down there. I don't remember it being this hot when I was a kid.

I'm in southern England, and my colleague has just showed me a picture of the thermometer in his car...saying 36 degrees (or 96.8 degs in old money) !! It is like an oven outside. I am staying inside, in the air-con. I think Raps mentioned that he was working in the fridge these last few days - i envy him that. A great huge walk-in fridge sounds like a super place to be right now.

Isnt electricity a lot more expensive in Europe than the United States??? I run the central A/C only during the evening and night and our gas/electric bill is around 100 dollars a month.

Er, i am ashamed to admit that I don't know how much my electricity bill is. I think i pay somewhat less than you; £30-40/month, however I have gas central heating and hot water, and my hob is gas too. Most people here don't have air-con in their homes, and that goes for Europe too. Offices and shops have air-con. Central air sounds like a wonderful idea, but would probably cripple my electric bill !

It was 97 yesterday and its supposed to be getting hotter. MSN Weather is giving us high humidity for example at midnight tonight its supposed to be around 70-75 with a 85% Humidity (ugh). At least its normally pretty low humidity for us while the town next to us gets real high humidity (they are on the coast and we are about 15 miles from the beach).

Central air is actually better to have rather than having just one unit in your window. With central air you have one unit that turns off when it gets as cool as your thermostat is set and it feeds air ducts that go to all rooms of your house. My host mother in Spain had central air but she'd rarely turn it on to keep her electic bill down.
BTW What's a hob???

I'm in Hamiton, ON, Canada and it's just been BOILING here. We try to cut down on electricity by only keeping a 27 deg C temp in the house nothing lower than that but when the humidity hits, oh boy.

Here in the Seattle area it's been in the 70s the past few days, which is perfect IMO. We have a "heat wave" forecast for the next week, though, with temps into the 90s...luckily, the humidity here never really gets above 35% or so. Not that I don't complain anyhow - and, hearing about the 100+ everywhere else makes me feel a bit guilty! :o

Today the high here is 91 degrees with a chance of thunderstorms. Tomorrows high is supposed to be 89.

Not having air conditioning at home anymore really sucks. It's been in the mid-90s for about 2 weeks, and I've been frying. The day it hit 100 F, even with the fans on, I was still dying at night. In fact, I only got 3 hours of sleep that night :(

Wasn't in the fridge today :(
Stuffy office etc, though looking forward to being in there tomorrow. There are perks to my job, but I have to come out from time to time.

It was in the mid to high 90s the past couple of days, and today is supposed to be in the 80s. Woo hoo. At work, I was the envy of at least half the store, because I work in a refrigerated room. :worship: <-----worshipping myself

We're finally cooling off a bit in Edmonton. We had a stint where it was 25C in the morning, and topped out at the mid 30s! Very dry heat too, picture a much milder version of death valley.:D

Phoenix has been horrible for the past few months. According to http://www.weather.com/, today it is "107 F, feels like 104 F". Um, no.
The official temperature is taken in the shade. Some businesses have outdoor displays that show the temperature. I've passed ones that say it's 120 F! I'm going to put an oven thermometer in my car and see how hot it gets in there.
We're heading for Oregon for vacation, and it looks like there's going to be a heat wave there. Marvelous.

Out here, according to weather.com, it's 98°F feels like 108°F. Keep in mind, this is at 7:30 in the evening now that it has cooled down a little. Also, our humidity is 46%. *melts*

Well, over the weekend and Monday and Friday, it was in the upper 90s with extreme humidity. I love New Jersey. And Tuesday night was when the weather was supposed to drop down to the lower 80s upper 70s. That was, one of THE worst storms I have ever seen. Multiple flashes of lightning in less than one second. The longest amount of time I counted between lightning flashes was nearly six seconds. The kind of weather you see for tornadoes.

It broke 100 degrees last Saturday in Little Antartica (WI).

am i the only one who actually enjoys the heat? i don't get really comfortable until the temp is in the 90s, preferably 95+, and if it drops under 80, that's a little too cool for my taste.

Currently 90 degrees with a low tonight of 78. Tomorrows high 87.
Record high for this date: 94 degrees (in 1994).
Record high for tomorrows date: 95 degrees (in 1956).
And people say it's hotter in Florida than the rest of the country. Guess we've proved them wrong, huh? :)
I also note that in my hometown in Missouri it's currently 101 degrees.
Record high for this date there: 112 (in 1934).

According to Weather.com for 12:45pm "99°F Feels Like 110°F" 4pm, high of 100 degrees, feels like 109 degrees. But we're lucky. We're getting a cold front. Much needed rain and cooler temps.
Although St. Louis got hit with a huge storm last night 80mph winds... and 500,000 people without power. I don't want to think about how many eldery are not going to survive the day.

Apparently, the high today was 33'C (91'F). The humidity, as usual, was really really high (not sure of exact numbers) For the first time in about a week, we didn't hear any thunder and it didn't rain at all.
Did I mention this is rainy season, not summer? 33'C is about average for here. On the rare occasion it gets cooler than about 27'C, the locals complain that it's cold...Ah, the joys of living in a tropical country!

It's supposed to get into the 90's today, then be ~100 or so for a few days, then drop back to he 80's and 70's here around Portland.
Having been in July weather in Texas a few weeks ago, it was lovely to come back to a slight drizzle. Everyone else was whining, but I was relieved to be somewhere that actually cooled off and became comfortable after some precipitation. Bleah. I could never live any further south than here, methinks.

According to the thermometer on my front porch, IN THE SHADE, we've topped 110F every day for the past 2 weeks here. Gord only knows what that would be in the sun, or with the heat index.

A lot of my family live out there. My aunt has been without power for at least 36 hours. The truly sad thing, though, in the middle of the night after the storm hit they decided to let their german shephard outside since it was just too hot inside without the a/c. The older dog is blind and deaf so they couldn't let him out. The german shephard, Buster, has a nice dry spot under the patio where he sleeps and she watched him go hide under there. The next morning when she went to call him in he never came. They found him under the porch, dead. :( There are no signs of injuries, nothing. Poor Buster.
On top of all that, she had a comedy of errors later on in the day. She arranged for a hotel since it was too hot, but when she came home from work the power was on. It stayed on long enough for her to dump most of the bad food from the fridge, some of which she put in the disposal which promptly clogged, and cancel her reservation. And then the power died again. :headdesk:

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing a sure-fire way to lower the temperature in your home town and bring on the rain ! Just invite me to camp within the town environs. This will guarantee an instant rainstorm, a fall in temperature of about 5 degrees, and high winds.
Seriously, I can't beleive this. Its been scorching here for the last couple of weeks, but tomorrow I'm off camping for the weekend and what's the forecast? Heavy showers. I must be a rain god. I could bring an end to famine and get the Nobel Prize if i backpacked round Africa for a few months :(.

In which case, Barefootgirl, I cordially invite you to attend the Pearl Jam concert tomorrow with me and my fiance. :D Forecast for that area is a high of 106 - and there's no shade.

Yikes. I'm on my way :)
You need something like those umbrella hats. Yes, you look a pillock, but it's better than keeling over with heatstroke. Will they let you take water into the arena? Take as much as you can carry, seriously.

It's an outdoor amphitheatre with adjacent camping area, so we're packing two full-sized coolers with ice, drinking water, and enough sunblock to choke a rhinoceros. We'll spend the time before the concert under our little portable canopy, so hopefully that will mitigate the solar nastiness. ;)
From what I've seen at concerts around here, we rather enjoy the pillock look. Certainly it's no worse than the white-man-with-dreadlocks look.

There sure is somthing screwy going on with the weather. It used to be that we only got severe weather and nasty thunderstorms from March to October. Now we get them all year round. I've even gotten bitten by mosquitos in November here, something that's never happened to me before. A couple years ago we got two feet of snow down here in December with below zero weather. That's unheard of here. One thing that can be certain that if this warmer-than-normal weather continues here for the next few years the fire ants will start moving in.
