i had my first ultrasound today, so i saw my baby for the first time!!! i was off on my due date by three weeks!!!!! im only 8 weeks pregnant, not 11, so now i have three extra weeks to wait. im disappointed about that.
but i heard my baby's heartbeat today. the doctor said it sounds normal. he said everything looks normal, and he expects my pregnancy to have no complications, and i have no restrictions.
i hav a picture, but i can't get it online right now. ifi can, i will but im not sure if everybody will want to see it, so if i get it up, ill just make a thread and those who want to see it can write me.
im so excited. it was the best thing to hear the baby's heart. but i didn't get to hear but for a few seconds, cause the doctor turned it off.

That's great! :)
Ultrasounds are so cool... except the whole having to pee so bad you're positive you won't make it through without wet pants part.
Some pharmacies carry (or used to) a fetal heart monitor for around $40.00.

Why do you need a full bladder?

The bladder is located behind the uterus. A full bladder pushes the uterus forward making it easier for the Ultrasound to 'see' what's inside.
The fuller the bladder the better. Every Ultrasound I've had has pushed me to the limits of not being able to hold it long enough. I've always made it- barely.
I've been told that many women simply can't make it through.
Of course, it's a combo of having to pee worse than you've ever had to in your life and someone pouring nice warm gel on your belly and then pressing on that area.
ewww the things ive heard about pregnancy have made adoption seem more and more wonderful every day :P
congradulations on the baby!! have you announced it yet or are you waiting until your 12 weeks? when do you know if its a boy or a girl, have you picked names out.... how about the nursery!!!
hearing the heartbeat is always cool!!

Pregnancy is a piece of cake compared to the chaos that babies cause when they finally arrive ! A bump doesn't answer back, doesn't spit its food out all over the table, doesn't refuse to say hello to grandma, doesn't run away in shops, and doesn't need new shoes every two months ! A bit of heartburn and an increased need to pee is nothing comapred to what comes later :D
Sorry for hijacking your topic, ljt. Many congrats on the baby - ultrasounds are so exciting. I cried at my first one, when I actually saw the outline of the baby and heard her heart beating.
and doesn't need new shoes every two month
babies where shoes????

Ultrasounds are so cool, aren't they?? And don't worry about the full bladder thing- the more pregnant you are, the more your uterus sticks out and it becomes easier and easier to see, so they usually don't make you drink anything at all after the first trimester. At least, that's the way it worked for me. I had lots and lots of ultrasounds and never ever got bored of them. Congratulations and enjoy!

The last time I had to go thru that, I was told to drink a quart of water an hour before the appointment. Well, for me, a quart is almost nothing. I know I had at least 2 quarts. (At the time, I carried a half-gallon jug with me everywhere.) When they finally got me in, they decided my bladder was too full, and wanted me to drain "just a little." I told them it would have to be all or nothing. If I started, I would not be able to stop!
They made do with me being too full.

Me too. At the sonogram (around five months), I got a great picture, a perfect profile shot, and I knew my baby would be a handsome one. It took them a while, though, because he was bouncing all over the place like an aerobics instructor! :D Hopefully, your baby will be cooperative and you'll get some good pictures. :)
