i just recalled this at the end of my last post in the haunting section. its not a workplace haunting either but im hoping others who have the "gift" as i think i do not, may be able to offer insight.

This may have been the scariest nightmare of my life or the most horrible experience of my life. The only reason i remembered it was due to stopping by a hauntings forum and reading about a similar experience.

Late at night I was asleep and i felt like I was startled awake. My eyes shot open and I realized I could not move my body. An odd rushing sound filled my ears, sounding like a mitxure of me falling and a scream. Then my body felt like it was being 'held'(best word i can use to describe the feeling). I was still paralized completely and my eyes where open the whole time. What happened right after I cant remember all to well. I believe the whole ordeal lasted about 10-30 seconds then i either lost conciousnes or drifted back to sleep.

I dont believe this to be a physical problem like a seizure or anything as I have never had problems like this before or since.

As im typing this my body is getting shivers as it is probably the most horrible experiance of my life to date. My reaction to remembering this ordeal leads me to believe its more likely it to have actually happened then to be a nightmare. Still scares me right now when im at college surounded by people.

btw im pisting here couse now im kinda to freaked to post on an actual hauntings forum lol

There is a thing called "sleep paralysis," as I've had it happen to me before twice.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis

Hope that helps.

You're welcome. :)

It is not a fun experience, I know. I've even had quite a few dreams where I'm paralyzed >.< Until I wake up of course.

Kuzco beat me to it, but that's exactly what I was thinking too, Sleep Paralysis. I have it happen rather frequently to me lately. Though sometimes I am very very relaxed and peaceful through it while still having the falling feeling. It is definately weird though.

Sometimes, while I'm drifting off, I feel like I'm being rocked in a hammock. Other times, I feel like I'm falling - but in a good way. The Sleep Paralysis has happened to me a few times as well. Always scares me enough to keep me awake for half an hour or so!

i posted the same info on the other forum and hopefuly it will help the individual feel better about her own experience as it was a much more intense expeience then mine. Hopefull now if it happens again I will be much calmer and relaxed and *hopefully* i wont hallucinate again.

i read about one guy who hallucinated that a creepy looking child was pacing around his bed.....how creepy is that!?

Yes, this is a fairly common phenomenon, I think. It has happened to me once, and yes, it's the scariest thing I think I've ever experienced also. In fact, I spent the better part of the night after that questioning my sanity. It's some scary stuff.

It's linked to a pheonomenon called "Old Hag." That's the folk name for it.

I feel like a lot of these people who believe that they were abducted by aliens are people who have had this happen to them. The hallucination is so real, they just can't believe it didn't really happen. ( A lot of people who this happens to also hallucinate that there are scary, threatening figures in the room around them, grabbing them, or sitting on them. When it happened to me, I was convinced there was a huge figure made of shadows reaching out for me...gaaah....I'm getting goosebumps typing it and not only do I know what it was, but it happened 20 years ago. THAT'S how scary this crap is.

I've read up a lot about this, as I find it fascinating. My theory, and that of some others, is that maybe it's a dream about being born. Which would be scary as hell. And remember, we forget nothing. We might not be able to recall that memory, but it's floating around our subconscious.

So don't worry, you aren't going nuts and you aren't alone. :)

Edit: This is a great site regarding this: http://watarts.uwaterloo.ca/~acheyne/S_P.html

I've had the sleep paralysis thing a few times. It happened once shortly after I had moved into my first apartment by myself, and at a time in my life when my anxiety level was at an all time high. Scared the hell out of me, when I was already a bit of a hypochondriac to begin with.

Sometimes it'll happen at the same time I am trying to scream or yell in a dream, then I'll realize I yelled out loud just as my body is jerking out of the paralysis mode. Or the yelling is what wakes me up, I'm not sure. It's freaky.

I once woke up after I must have been sleeping weird on my arm for a while, and my entire arm was completely numb. It was like 4 in the morning, pitch black, and I thought I was having a stroke or something. Also alone in my apartment. :shudder: When I was fully awake I realized what was happening, and then it was kinda cool...:o

Actually, this sounds like an out of body experience coming to an end. At least it is what I read. But then I have never had one but I did have one hell of a dream last night and for me to still remember it now, it must have been really bad. I just remember a big black bug or possibly a spider crawling up my chest and I couldn't brush it off. I could actually feel it brushing up against my hand as I tried to knock it off. I was yelling for someone to get it off of me and constantly trying to brush it off but nothing happened, and then I woke up.

Thing is, I am not afraid of bugs or spiders. I used to play with them when I was a kid, as long as they were not poisonous.

Oh, god shudder shudder shudder!!! I can't stand spiders. That dream would make have kept me up the rest of the night.
