after 40 weeks of pregnancy, on February 23, 2007, at 9:06 A.M., i gave birth to my first son, Aleksander William(obviously, im keeping last name confidential). he weighed 8 pounds even, and is 20 1/2 inches long. he scored a 9 on the Apgar test, which is awesome. he is extremely healthy, with just a bit of jaundice that will clear up on its own soon.
I went in Thursday night at 7:30, and was given a pill to induce me. at about 8, 8:30, my contractions began. contractions weren't what i expected. when my contractions started, i was 2 centimeters dialated. two hours later, i was 4 centimeters dialated. at around 12, the contractions became really painful. i was going to try natural birth, but i decided i couldn't go any further like that. so i got an epidural. i was told that usually doesn't hurt past the needle pricking your skin, but it really hurt me....
so i got a little relief. at about 2:30, i was 6 centimeters dialated...and i started to feel my contractions again. they gave me this little device with a button to push if i needed more medicine for the epidural, and i pushed it as much as i could(it locks itself so i won't take too much. i think it allows it once every 15 minutes, no matter how much i push that button), but i kept feeling the contractions. before he epidural, the pian went throughout my stomach, but after, it was all in my lower stomach. just as painful though.
at about 6, i was 9 1/2 centimeters dialted, and 80% effaced. they decided to have me try to push because of the pain i was in. as we began, the doctor came in to exam me himself. he is the partner of the doctor i normally see. turns out that while Aleks was head down, he was turned around, so he was facing up, not down.when i was laying down, his head should be looking towards the floor. Alek was looking at the ceiling. we needed to try to get him to turn first, which he did not do. becauseof that,my labor lasted longer than it might have if he was facing the right way.
at around 7:30, my normal doctor came in, and told me that when i get Alek closer to being born, they were going to help. so they were going to suction him out. i thought, that when they suctioned babies out like that, that i wouldn't have to push any more, so i was happy....until i found out that while they are helping, i can't just lay there and rest. i was disappointed. but he finally came out. his daddy got to cut the cord.
My baby is sooo good. he doesn't have a high pitched cry. until last night, he rarely cried or gave us any problems. last night was bad though. im still really tired, because i haven't ben able to catch up on my sleep. so everytime i went to go to sleep last night, he woke up fussing. he got food, and a diaper change, and would go to sleep. i would put himbackin bed, just to have him wake up fivem inutes later fussing. all he wanted was to be held. which, i love holding him. i hate having to put him down when i don't need to, but when im trying to sleep, it reall got to me. i didn't get any help until 6, with me getting NO sleep at all. at 6, his daddy got up and took over, and i went to sleep. daddy was smarter than me though. he put Alek in his swing for the first time. Alek loves it. hes been in there sleeping for 2 hours now.
he has a VERY strong neck. when im burping him, and he is laying stomach down on my chest, he will lift his head up and look around. yesterday, he did it, and opened his mouth wide, and started bobbing his head. it was really cute. the nurses at the hopsital kept making comments on how strong his neck is.
it is AMAZING the feelings i have for him. i love him somuch, and i don't want to let him outof my sight. the first night he was with us, we decided to have him in the nursery for a few hours so i could sleep. the second he left the room,i started crying because i didn't want to be away from him. to me, he is perfect and the most gorgeous baby! labor wasn't fun at all, but it was sooo worth it just to have him!
