My kitten is driving me nuts.
I'm trying to write one of 4 papers for this class next week.
She has discovered the joys of the laser pointer and prefers to play with it in the basement. (There's more room to run around down here and long curtains to climb up)
Now, my husband is down here as well, playing WoW on his computer.
He has lots of time to play with her. Me, not so much.
So of course, who is she whining to constantly??!!
ME!!
She learned pretty quickly that if she jumps on the back of my chair, or bats at my leg from the side of my chair, or squeezes her way between my back and the chair, or jumps on the keyboard or my lap or.....you get the idea. She mews softly and sadly each time until I turn on the laser pointer and she gets to chase it around the room.
GAHH!!! If only she wasn't so cute I wouldn't keep giving in!!!!!!!!
Oh great here she comes again!!

Target the pointer at hubby's WoW session. On the keyboard specifically.

After causing enough wipes, he will get the hint and start playing with kitty.

Usually when he's in a group and gets booted.

oo ooo I got one!!! tape over the "on" button on the laser pointer and then tape it to the underside of her collar-she'll amuse herself(yes I have done this before), as it will move every time she does, and be juuuuust out of reach.

Hehehe...she could come over and play with my kitties. We eat dinner and the girl sits between me and my dad and begs for food and stretches her little feet up onto the table (hoping there will be peas on the edge to swipe off, no doubt) and the boy sits in the empty chair and puts his feet on the table, then when we push them off he lays his head on the table and stretches his feet out to the side, like he's just sooooo bored! I'm always telling them they're lucky they're cute!

I used to tie a string to the cat's tail. That kept him occupied for a bit, till he figured out how to get it off.

Yah, tried that. But she dislikes his desk as he has clutter all over it and an ashtray there. Mine has fun crinky noisy paper, battable pens and books she can try to hide under.
She won't go near his desk.
Plus I think she hates WoW too.

Although, once I caught her trying to help him. Our TV upstairs is connected to his computer so if he is playing a game and leaves the TV on, I can see it. I came into the living room and she was on the TV, stretching up and batting at some monster thing he was killing.

Hmmm this is possible...

I tried the string thing too. She had it off in 1.5 seconds. Did some kind of tail shake and it came off.
And she is such a beggar!! Everything I eat she wants a piece too. So far she doesn't like raw blueberries, but loves cooked ones. She likes all sort of meats, veggies and cooked fruits. She squeezes her way next to me, begins to purr quietly, puts her small paw on my leg and whispers 'Mew?' It's so hard to resist her!

I think she needs a friend...But she's really really really antisocial and hates everyone.

If she's going to be somewhere where you're right next to her, tie the handles of a plastic shopping bag to her collar and stand back. If you tie it just right, it'll parachute a bit. Then there's noise with every move. Quite entertaining, but due to the danger of suffocation, she needs to be supervised.., actually is easy. Don't hear noise? Look for the cat!! ;)

As to getting a "friend" for her, DON'T DO IT!!! Don't let her trick you!! Then there's TWO cats on your desk and begging for your time!!!!

Worse comes to worse, dump a bunch of toys into a room upstairs for an hour or so.

My boy isn't much interested in people food (though he does like my dad's sharp provolone cheese) but the girl wants to try everything (after they play a little soccer with it first). Peas, corn, green beans, carrots, rice, potato chips...When I had the dog visiting she finally got to the point where she tried to play with him, kicked a potato chip towards him to try to start a soccer game (she does this with her brother all the time), and the dog just ate it . Poor girl was disappointed, I think.

A claw hairclip on the tail was fun too...the girl just calmly took it in her mouth and slid it off, but the boy kept sitting on the tile and jumping around in a circle when he heard it clicking against the floor. He broke it though, so maybe not such a good idea...

hehe...mine came as a set (could be worse, there were 4 of them!) and technical.angel is right...then you'll have 1 on each side and you won't know where to turn!! :D

One of the kittens (well, not really kittens anymore) that we took in last summer is like that. He's not the only one who likes people food, but he's the pushiest of the bunch. He's stolen food off my plate, and even off my fork. One time he was sitting in my lap looking up at me, and I thought he was going to lunge at me and try to steal it right out of my mouth! If he was, he apparently changed his mind. He's even tried to sneak his way to my plate by climbing up onto my shoulder. I guess he didn't think I'd feel it for whatever reason.

My grandpa's cat used to steal bacon right off his plate. Came out of nowhere hauling ass across the table, swatted it off the plate so it was out of his reach and ran off with it. It was super entertaining and on Sundays he learned to make extra bacon so he wouldn't be pissed he only had one or two pieces...

Not cat related, still kinda funny.

My uncle's old dog once stole bacon right off the frying pan when no one was in the kitchen. Then she ate a whole pot roast and left the soup bone in my grandpa's shoe.

My favourite was the time when I was about four. I was sitting at the table, eating a hamburger. Dog walks right up, gently puts her two front paws on my back to lean me forward, then eats the burger. That dog was awesome.

My mom's dog, Sunny, is a master of getting things off the counter that she isn't supposed to have. Recently, she ate an entire coffee cake in under a minute.

The key with Sunny is that she does a little *happy dance* whenever she gets something she's not supposed to have, and you can hear it all over the house.

And back on topic, I have two cats, and they are always at their cutest when I don't have time to play with them, or am trying to sleep.

Well I changed computer chairs to one with a thinner back, so she can't jump up and hit the back of my head anymore.
But the weather is nicer now and I opened up a window for her to sit at and that seems to occupy her for about 10 minutes now.

We have a low counter in front of the bay window in my kitchen, which is right behind my chair at the table. Sometimes I will feel a little paw on my shoulder, and it's her sitting there hoping for food. And if you sit on the couch to eat, she is in your lap trying to be in your plate :)

One of my cats, Max the metal-kitty (I swear he loves metal-whenever I've got metal playing, he comes over to me. Granted, I pretty much always have metal on, but still) is a total attention whore, and his cuteness is directly proportional to how much work I have to do. If I'm bored and just sitting around gaming or whatever, he just comes around, wanders and leaves. If I'm neck-deep in unfinished programs and unread notes, he'll jump on my lap, cuddle, play with my papers, whatever.

Maybe it's a sympathy thing, I dunno.

Hey! My cats love metal too..foil balls are their fav-- oh, you mean the music! Well, then :muya: (;))

They don't seem to be partial to any particular music, but they do like to watch TV sometimes. Not sure if they have a favorite show or not..

I was just thinking of this thread as my cat was walking across my keyboard as he stalked the elusive hair clip on the other side of the desk. I don't know what he stepped on but the Windows help menu came up. One time he did it and managed to turn off the computer (it's a laptop and you have to hold the button for several seconds). While his sister sits on my shoulder and eats my hair.

Oh, forgot all about this until the above post -- when we first got the kittens, the were constantly turning off my computer by jumping on the power strip, and just happening to hit the button.

Ended up having to tape the thing down.

My little cat use to do this all of the time (I have a laptop as well). I cover the power button with the plastic cover from my iPod container. She's also managed to open programs and send MSN messages

I have tried to use remote control cars to keep her awy.
She really hates them, and my husband has quite a few.
I made a little circle of them around my chair and if she gets near, I'll make one of them move and she runs away.
But damnit she hides in a corner and make tiny little pathetic mews!!!

Despite Her Majesty the Kitten Queen Bulma's attempts, I managed to receive an A- on my paper.
Now on to the next paper!
(That's her new name. It was conceived after she refused to eat unless her Fancy Feast was at a certain temperature)
