Just so you know, I will probably post a new story every week. She stays over usually Wednesday or Thursday night (and if I'm lucky, both nights). But it all depends on my work schedule. I'm trying to make it so it's a consistant time every week.
Anyhoo, on with the story.
Today, it was about a train. She *loves* trains, for some reason. She has no idea who Thomas the Tank Engine is (it's not on tv in our area), so she doesn't get too excited about him. But if she sees a real train, watch out! She goes nutty!
So when she woke up this morning and she had her breakfast, I told her that I have a surprise for her.
Em: "A surprise? For me? Is it Christmas again?" (she cracks me up)
Me: "Nope! Do you remember that train we see when we go to the park"?
Em: "The yellow one? With the red and blue cars?"
Me: "Yes, sweety. That one. Well, today we're going to ride it!"
Em:   :D "Really????"
Me: "Really!"
Em: "Really?"
Me: "Yes! Really!"
Em: "Awesome."
So we roll out. Destination: Local tourist town. A small, quaint town that sits on a lake. A very nice place, if it weren't for all the people. The train is there for tourists; it's a narrated (very badly) trip that tells of the history of our area. We get to the depot and buy the tickets (which I am keeping as a souvenir for her) and she sees a conductor hat. Naturally, she wants it, but it's adult size. Then she wants a t-shirt, and a model train, and so on and so on. Then we hear "All Aboard!" and that puts the end to all her wanting. She makes a bee-line to the train, hands the dude our tickets (cutting in front of everyone while I got to apologize. No one minded, actually had genuine smiles) and boards. I let her choose the seats; she chose right in the middle, right side, and took the window seat.
We sat there for about 20 minutes before we departed. All this time, she's asking, "When does it go? When does it go?" Finally, the train pulled out of the station. We were on our way!
She saw many of the places she sees almost every time she's with me, but from a new perspective. She's never seen the lake as close as she did, nor from such an elevation (elevation being very rare in Florida).
The whole time, she is very excited, looking out the window, telling me to look out the window, waving to people she sees outside her window, and talking to the people in the train car.
We pulled back into the station 75 minutes later, and not a minute too soon. She was starting to get bored. Unfortunately, the depot/gift store was closed, so I couldn't buy her a shirt (I'll have to go back tomorrow), so we walked across the street and had ice cream instead. Then we went to the park and played.
But it was my baby's first train ride, and she loved it! I loved it! And I gots pictures! I'll be posting those later, probably tomorrow. She wore me out again today (but she is the one that fell asleep watching Flushed Away.. Ha ha!)
