I've been catching up on reading posts today, trying to keep my mind off of recent dramatic occurences, and have a feeling there are quite a few wrestling fans on this board?

Personally, I miss the good ol days when you could watch Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, and the Ultimate Warrior scrappling in the ring. Not that I don't like many of the new wrestlers, I just kinda miss the days when there was more wrestling than dialogue, you know?

Sooo, what do you other wrestling fans out there think? And who is your current fave, and all time fave wreslter? My all time fave will always and forever be Stone Cold, however, my current fave is Batista (I like to call him Bod-tista, he's so much fun to look at, )

I don't know how many fans are actually on the board. I'd be more interested to know how many of the female members are actually into watching wrestling. I never seem to be able to find a good one that actually likes to watch it and can get into it as much as I can.

Fav: Oh yeah.....how can you NOT like :worship: Stone Cold. :worship:

Current: Triple H/Batista

Only reason I say that is because they are some great stories as an inspiration to get in shape and pick up the weights instead of other vices. Plus I love the attitude projected.

Semi-pro wrestler myself (been out of the game for a couple years but finally getting back into shape to go at it again). I only started watching in 1999 because my sister basically forced me to...wonder if she regrets it yet?

My favorites are Mick Foley, Matt Hyson (aka Brother Runt or Spike Dudley), Rey Mysterio, Lita ("ho" is what people a woman with the sexual morals of a man, she's still perfectly cool with me), Trish Stratus, Abyss, Eddie Guerrero (R.I.P., I have a framed picture of him on my desk right now) and my former tag-team partner, a 7'6", 500 pound mountain named Adme from South Africa. Actually spent some time living in the bush or whatever they call it in Africa, and when he got mad, he started yelling in his native tongue complete with all the clicks and animal noises. He was COOL!

My dream match would be a hardcore match against Mick Foley at Wrestlemania, or to fight Matt Hyson for the X-Division title in TNA. I like to play rough!

My favourite? The Undertaker, hands down. Always has been, always will be. Nothing says "attitude" like his walk to the ring.

Besides the Dead Man, my current favourites are Batista, Edge and the refored D-X. :D

I have a hard time watching wrestling now. There's just too much blah blah blah goin on and not enough wrestling. I was a big Al Snow fan for the longest time, his pre-WWF stuff was just awesome. Although his rivalry with Bob Holly totally rocked.

Here in East Tennessee we have several active and retired wrestlers. Mr. Fuji used to be a ticket taker at a Regal Theater in Knoxville, he said he did it for fun and to keep up with fans. Kane is a local guy. I was at a local gun store a few years ago with my sons when he came in. As we say here "he's a big ol' boy". My youngest son saw him first and freaked-out:eek: not because he's a fan but he was scared of him and tired locking himself in a gunsafe. My older son just kinda stood there with his mouth hanging open. Kane went back to his truck (to get some pictures) I was able to get my kid out of the safe and woke-up the other. Kane (Glen Jacobs) is a really nice guy from just up the road. He autographed some pictures for the kids and posed with them for some others. We have one picture of Kane choke-slamming my oldest kid and the youngest getting the three count on him. Kevin Nash played basketball at UTK until he was kicked off the team for hitting the coach.
Nowdays we watch WWF on Monday's and Friday's but I have to keep a hand on the remote when they start the off color stuff and the T and A stuff. While the boys aren't seeing anything they haven't before I figure there's no need to entice them more than necessary. While I like the skimpy clothes I think some of those folks men and women need to put some more clothes on.
I remember the old North Georgia Wrestling days, Harry Thorton as commentator, Tojo Yamamoto, the Mongolian Stomper, George Thorton, a very young Barry Windom, Bob Armstrong with Brad other sons. Robert Fuller, Jimmy Golden, Don and Ron Wright using that worp-your-head-off holt.
My favorites are Harley Race, Ric Flair, Mr. Westling II, Jay Stongbow and Wahoo McDaniels.

Stone Cold was awesome, but I prefered him on "Celebrity Deathmatch"...

Rowdy Roddy Piper, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, the ones from the mid-90s, mostly.

I don't watch wrestling anymore because the storylines piss me off, they are so beyond indescribably stupid.

I must agree with Bella on all points.

Hey, any love for Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake in here?

I also had a mini girl-crush on Lita. She's pretty.

Anyone else see the PPV last night? I was shockingly surprised. I figured it was going to stink up the joint, but It really wasn't a bad PPV.

Undertaker delivered as always!

Poor Rey got screwed. :(

I've never seen so much blood before in my life.....Poor Mr. Kennedy. KENNEDY!!! (Gotta vote for him being a Wisconsin native :D )

The ppv was ok, but those diva matches need to stop. They can't wrestle, if they are gonna do those atleast let the ones that can wrestle participate. Anyone else think the divas search needs to end?

My favorite wrestlers of all time are Stone Cold Steve Austin (of course) and a local boy, Chris Benoit.

I really like the Highlanders-they have a really good schtick going, and they make me smile. But for wrestling skill, I really like Rey Mysterio, Shelton Benjamin, and Bobby Lashley.

NightWolf

I agree with ya spiffy. I like the Highlanders too. I think as long as they do well and stay healthy they could go far. Too bad the WWE is somewhat lacking on the creative side in the use of their Tag Teams. :(

And Bobby Lashley.....oh yeah. Another big boy like Batista. Once again, as long as he stays healthy, I see him doing some great things.

MystyGlyttyr
07-25-2006, 02:20 PM
Unfortunately, Bobby's not healthy right now. In the last week, three Smackdown wrestlers (Bobby Lashley, Khali and Super Crazy) have been pulled from the road with heightened liver enzymes, which could be Hep C. :( Hopefully Vince gets his crap together and finds out what's going on before more people get infected...

There aint nothing like watching LIVE independent wrestling. There's a circuit based here, Colosium Championship Wrestling (CCW). They have matches at a place downtown every week and since there's no huge crowds there's a lot more fan/wrestler interaction and it's fun when they do the hardcore match and you gotta jump out of the way so you dont get run over or get hit with a flying object.

NightWolf

Yeah Mysty, Smackdown has been hurting bad lately with the injuries and other issues. Staph infections, injuries and enzimes oh my!

I've never really been to an event yet as all the good seats were taken and I hate paying for nose bleed tickets. I wouldn't mind checking out something more local if there is more interaction, i'm just not sure how much really goes on locally around here vs. a bit more south.

Indies shows are fun...the guys will spend a lot of time working over the crowd and sometimes getting them involved in the matches.

Story time...Mysty feels like reminiscing...

I worked at one not too long ago, and there were some pretty big names working there...Shawn Stasiack, Kamala the Ugandan Giant, Action Jackson, Skandor Ackbar (who was hysterical to hang out with), and Greg Valentine. There were some local indies guys, most of whom I'd been at shows with before, and we had some fun making fun of Stasiack (who, for the record, was acting line a total diva, and not the WWE kind). Things like standing at the curtain during his match and screaming "DEY TOOK YER JARB!" (South Park reference ;)) Mature, nice, respectable, no. Fun, yes.

The main reason this story happened though, was because of Shawn's diva-ness. His match was up and his music had been playing for five minutes, but there was no sign of him anywhere. (I'm pretty sure he was ticked because he didn't get his own dressing room, but I don't know for sure.) So a bunch of us scattered and started looking for him, and I headed for one of the two change room areas to start knocking on doors.

However, about two seconds before I reached the door, it literally SLAMMED open and Shawn came marching out (probably because of a dozen people backstage screaming his name for five minutes straight). Unfortunately, right behind him was Kamala, getting ready for his next match...and not wearing a stitch except for the flip-flops on his feet.

My approximate reaction to this was "Shawn, you're la-OHHHH MY GAWD I'M SORRY!!" combined with flinging both arms over my face and shrieking. Stasiack pretty much ignored me and Kamala tried to apologize but I was, er, too busy screaming and doing this :runaway:. I think I hid behind the bleachers for the next fifteen minutes while all the other guys laughed at me, until they finally coaxed me out with the promise of pissing off Stasiack during his match. Such caring souls, we. Kamala did manage to get near enough to me later to apologize, but I went out of my way to avoid him for the rest of the night.

Now for the rest of the life, I have to deal with the curse that the first naked man I ever saw was Kamala the Ugandan freakin' Giant. I can't even see him on TV anymore without cringing. I'm ruined for life.

It's all that damned Shawn Stasiack's fault...

You know, I dont really get that whole thing about the whole "Wrestling is Fake" thing. They didnt want the world to know for sure that a lot of it is staged and scripted like Hollywood. I have to confess that, as a kid watching it in the 80's, I thought it was all real. And then when NBC did the prime-time special "Pro Wrestling's Greatest Secrets" in which a bunch of anonymous wrestlers in masks (Mike Modest was rumored to be one of them which supposed cost him his chance to get into the WWE) explained how it's all set up behind the scenes, I didnt feel hurt or betrayed or anything like that (like I guess many fans did with the whole Milli Vanilli thing). I know it's entertainment and it did just that. In fact, I think it's fun just going along with all the characters and storylines like it's real when I watch Indie wrestling live.

Mysty: LMAO....awsome story!! I've named a few of my World of Warcraft Characters Kamala. :D I know...I'm a sad sad lil man.

As far as the fake angle, I don't care. It's all acting and a soap opera. I always say if girls can have the young and the restless and days of our lives, we get to have wrestling! :D I miss the days when the WWE had a better creative team and actually had more feuds, stables, and 1 brand.

I miss guys like the Rock, Stone Cold, and Tag teams....lol. Bring back Edge/Christian, The Dudleys, APA, and the Hardys. :(

APA!!!

OMG I miss them sooo much!! I HATE Bradshaw's current character (idiot cowboy junk), they need to bring back Farooq and my beer-guzzling, card-playing, stud-muffin duo!!!!

I'm a girl, and I watch daytime soaps (AMC, OLTL, and GH), and I watch wrestling! My hubby just watches the wrestling, of course. ;)

I've been addicted to wrestling since I was little. My Dad was a big fan, and I remember watching Wrestlemania with the Hulkster and Andre the Giant. My Dad looks a bit like Hogan, so I think that's why I was so into it. I just never grew out of it, I guess . . . . oh well! :D

Benoit was injured by Mark Henry. I swear that man is single handedly taking out everyone on the show. Batista, Kurt Angle, Benoit. sheeesh.

Once he got hurt he decided to take a sabatical as he's been having a lot of trouble with injuries lately.

I remember when he fought Shawn Michaels last year, and damn near came close to stepping on his head. He's so big, that he's clumsy as hell. Kinda like Vader is now.

And I wish they would take Cena off TV for a while, and let him re-introduce his character in a few months, when he's not trying to appeal to all the 10 year olds in the audience in order to sell t-shirts.

hehehe...yeah this was a tough call for them to do. Triple H didn't want to turn face as he is so much more comfortable in the role of a heel. But apparently he's getting soft in his old age.

Oh, and BTW, in case anyone hasn't heard the news.

From WWE.com

Stephanie McMahon and her husband Triple H welcomed their new daughter, Aurora Rose Levesque, into the world. Aurora weighs 8lbs 7oz. Both mother and daughter are doing fine.

I saw that yesterday!

Printed it off to show it to my hubby. Until he saw it, he was convinced they weren't really married, that it was just for show.

I don't think they would have a baby if it was for the show . . . I win!

Nice.

I actaully bought the Triple H book "Making the Game" I found it a very good read and had a lot of useful tips to get my diet and workout plans going in the right direction. Aside from that, he talked about the whole "getting involved with Stephanie" issue. So I knew it wasn't fake. Just like the whole Chyna/Triple H romance. That was real too. And as a matter of fact, he cheated on Chyna WITH Stephanie. tsk tsk.

Think I started watching wrestling in 2001 or so maybe? Never got into it before but I was really bored so my roommate and I were watching and I got hopelessly sucked in.

Favorites - Mick Foley, Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, Lita, Trish Stratus, Jeff Hardy, Shawn Michaels, Brian Kendrick, Tajiri...

I finally gave up on it sometime after the 2nd diva search started. Not totally because of the diva search...I was just sick of seeing the wrestlers I really liked get canned and the storylines were getting dumber and dumber.

Will probably give it another chance someday.
