View Full Version : Anime!
So I've noticed quite a few anime avatars, I was wondering what is everyone's current obession and favorite series? And does anyone go to any cons? I'll be up to Anime Iowa in August.
Currently watching Fate Stay/Night
But Neon Genesis Evangelion owns my soul.

Trigun
Slayers
ScrYed
Patlabor
Trinity Blood
As for Cons, I usually go to the local one named AnimeThon. It's decent, but I've drifted away from it as of late.

Let's start with cons, as I've only been to one, Anime Weekend Atlanta... um... 2001 (I think)
As for series:
My absolute favorite 'series' is Battle Athletes Victory. My favorite movie series is Armitage the Third.
Random good series:
Read or Dream
Trigun (okay, but extremely preachy)
Any Miyazaki film really (Kiki's Delivery Service roXXors my boXXors)
Dragon Half is a hilarious movie
Azumanga Daioh is good, but has a weepy ending
And that'll do for now.

Record of the loddoss war.
For Manga its
Record of the Loddess War
Dragonball
King Hell
Model
Diablo
Pokemon. (Ya know, it's surprenesllly bloody for a /kid/ manga with death and murder rampent...)

anime:
rurouni kenshin used to have the title for best anime IMHO, but saiyuki is rapidly approaching that status. others in the top five are trigun, samurai deeper kyo, and wolf's rain. x is in there too. damn, there's too many.
manga wise:
currently reading gravitation. it started out good but now its getting a little too silly for me. any manga of the above anime i can get my hands on is good. berserk, FAKE, and hellsing are good.

I'm on a Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya kick at the moment. Also watched F/SN recently.
I typically watch whatever's Adult Swim(I'm cheap) and I'm enjoying the hell out of Eureka 7 now.
Now manga's where i'm really big.
Blade of the Immortal is probably my favorite.
Negima
Hikaru no Go
Samurai Deeper Kyo
One Piece
Genshiken
Excel Saga
Azumanga Daioh
Kenshin
Love Hina
GTO
Fruits Basket
The list goes on. There's also a few manwha(iD_eNtity, PhD, and The Wallflower), but they technically deserve their own section. :p
Yea B&N I've seen the first series of Rurouni Kenshin and I want to see more but haven't found the 2nd season yet. Also wanted to get my hands on Samurai Deeper Kyo.

I'm too poor to go to cons, but I wish I wish! My dream as a cartoonist! (I drew my own avvi, I got a bigger version)
As for anime obsessions... Let's just list the ones I'm head-over-heels obsessed with, it'll cut down the list.
Captain Harlock (In french, albator 78 and Albator 84)
Lupin III
Sailor Moon
Dragon Ball
Dragon Quest (The manga, didn't watch th anime yet)
I'm currently building up a collection of Kerokko Demetan DVDs too, I loved that show as a kid!
While most otakus I know prefer newer anime and consider Neon Genesis Evangelion old, I like older anime best. People were allowed to bleed and die.
Don't get me started on the english bastardization of Saint Seiya...
Thats quite a cool little site Shironu,

Thats quite a cool little site Shironu,
Thanx. Now to find the time to update it, that would be quite nice.
Incidentally, I just painted my room the same color and style of my main "cotton candy"-ish backdrop.

Question for those of you who liked Eva...how did you stand the ending? lol

Question for those of you who liked Eva...how did you stand the ending? lol
I see End of Eva as a necessary evil. There was never going to be an easy way to tell that story, especially when they hint at everything as the series progresses. Episode 25 and 26, i see as what Shinji sees as the live action sequence near the end of the film. I see it accepting himself, and freeing himself from the chains that have held him.
As for the finale, (One more i love you) It's all about how you(The viewer) see it.
I've had this discussion at a few cons, Immortal seems to have nailed it on the head pretty soundly. If you ask just about anyone the meaning of Eva you will almost always get a different answer. Its one of the things that make the series great. Btw 4 new movies for Eva coming out this summer/fall!

I like Elfen Lied (as you may notice my avatar) I was sad to see how small the series was though.
Full metal alchemist
Vampire Hunter D (one and two)
I REALLY like Naruto. I prefer to watch anime's in japanese but subtitled in English. That way nothing is cut out. It's my favorite series and current obsession.
Sailor Moon
Bleach
Inuyasha
Oh, my there are so many more but I have to go to bed now :)

Apparently the manga's longer, but I can't really tune to manga so I've never read it. I noticed your av straight away, as I used to have this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v154/AntiCriss/Icons/elfen_lied16.gifas my av for a while.

I watch alot of anime, but the one's I'm currently following are:
Yamamoto Nadeshiko (I think that's right) -- Four Bishonen (pretty boys) guys have to teach an unrepentant creepy Goth girl how to be a real lady so that their landlady will give them free rent. Incredibly funny, with lots of send ups to Japanese horror flicks.
Kenichi -- 98 lb weakling learns jujitsu fighting arts (real fighting, instead of tournament rules fighting) from a secret dojo of the worlds greatest martial artists. Love this series! APA! APA! APA!
Ghost Hunt -- High schoolers investigate the paranormal while dealing with fake investigators and people who think they are fake too.
As far as I know, none of these are available state-side yet, but I'm sure they will be picked up for distribution.

I've been on a MAJOR anime kick lately, so I'm glad I found this thread! :D
My current obsessions are: Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor - The new 2005 series that adapts the manga more completely than the classic OVA series. One of my best friends gave me Vol. 1 for Xmas, and now I'm hopelessly hooked! Vol. 4 comes out Tuesday! YAY! ^_^
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - I just FINALLY bought the Complete Collection with the entire first season, because DeepDiscount.Com had it for only $40.19! I had seen the first disc a couple years ago and needed to get the show, so now I have! Now Bandai just needs to put out the Complete Collection of 2nd Gig (the 2nd season), preferably BEFORE they release the movie, Solid State Society! This is, without a doubt, THE best cyberpunk franchise around! And I say that as someone that loves the ENTIRE Matrix trilogy! ;)
Space Knight Tekkaman Blade (AKA Teknoman) - FINALLY, at long last, it's been given an official US release! YAY! This is my favorite anime series of the '90s! ^_^Besides those, I also recently watched Steamboy for the first time! Katsuhiro Otomo's first feature film since Akira did NOT disappoint me! It was brilliant! But then again, I can appreciate that old-school, Jules Verne style "steam punk" SF!
I also rented the original Record of Lodoss War OVA series when I found it on the shelf at the Blockbuster across the street from where I work. I'd never seen it before, and I'm an RPG junkie, so I had to check it out. It was good, but seemed a little dated. It could have been a bit better, but I also thought it got better as it went along, too. Have any of you seen the second series (ROLW: Legend of the Heroic Knight)? Is it any good?
Also, a couple months ago, I FINALLY picked up a copy of Robotech: The Protoculture Collection when Best Buy suddenly restocked it, at only $74.99! :D
Next on my must watch list: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. I love the films of Hiyao Miyazaki that I've seen. In fact, Princess Mononoke may very well be my favorite anime film of all time! I think it's been woefully ignored by American audiences. But I never have seen Nausicaa, so I'm going to have to do that soon.

I'm not a huge anime fan, cartoon wise, but some of them have made some badass games.:
Naruto (all of em except Naruto 5)
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 1,2,3
ON the actual show end:
Cowboy Bebop(my band covered Tank! the theme song)
Inuyasha
Gundam Wing (if that counts)
Hamtaro
Pokemon (i'm also currently replaying red, beat it actually, just trying to catch mewtwo now)

we bought it disk by disk, but then hubby gets a really good discount from work. I adore that series :)

heh heh heh....Every time Slayn comes on, I wonder where he keeps his crack pipe :p
The second series is much better than the first, IMO. There's a bunch of interesting new characters, too.
Just finished Samurai7, loved it. I'm partway through Elven Lied, Ergo Proxy, and I still have a few episodes to go on Those Who Hunt Elves...
I can't wait for the next batch of FMA!
Hubby's lusting for more Nadesico.
We went back and watched Hellsing together. I love that series, too :)
I'm hoping there will be another set done for 12 Kingdoms. It got left off in a weird spot, and it is really a good series :(
Curse you husband, getting me started on these things!
Well, you can probably tell from my avatar, but I'm a longtime fan of Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon. Not only is it my all-time favorite anime, I even have the seasons ranked.
Sailormoon Sailor Stars (Will probably never see a translated version. Download/buy the fansubs if you can).
Sailormoon S (Professor Tomoe. 'Nuff said)
Sailormoon Classic (the first stroy arc, the ending still makes me cry)
Sailormoon R (Chibi Usa is annoying, but the rest is great)
Sailormoon Super S (I didn't dislike it. It was fun, but not as strong as the rest of the series).
Haven't seen the live-action Sailormoon they started up, so can't speak to it. Also enjoyed the manga. Read it if you can find it, it's like a completely different series than the anime.
Also enjoyed:
Full Metal Alchemist
Cowboy Bebop
Yu-Gi-Oh! (I didn't mean to. I watched one episode when nothing else was on and got hooked)
Dragonball Z (a good one when you just want to turn off the brain and enjoy senseless violence)
Yu Yu Hakusho (More violence, better fights, cooler characters, and better storylines than DBZ)
G Gundam (never cared much for the Gundam series, but considering the absurd designs of most of the Gundams it was quite good)
Manga:
Naruto
Yu Yu Hakusho
One Piece
Bobobo-Bo Bo-bobo (unlike the anime, the manga is actually funny without being stupid)
I's
Rurouni Kenshin
I pick up Shonen Jump every month for the majority of my manga fix. Most of the titles are good. Tried to like Shoujo Beat, but I just couldn't get into any of the titles in that one.

we bought it disk by disk, but then hubby gets a really good discount from work. I adore that series :-)I take it he works somewhere that sells DVDs? In that case, have the 2 of you heard anything about a Complete Collection release of 2nd Gig yet? :confused:heh heh heh....Every time Slayn comes on, I wonder where he keeps his crack pipe :-pWhy, stuck into the top of his staff, just like Gandalf the Grey, of course! ;)
Either that, or in his bag of holding! :DThe second series is much better than the first, IMO. There's a bunch of interesting new characters, too.Cool, I'll keep an eye out for it. Since at least one Blockbuster had the original OVA series, maybe I'll find one that has the 2nd series so I can rent that, as well.
Thanks for the info. :)

I'm gradually being intro'd to more and more anime/manga and comics. :) My friends are awesome.
Lately, I've not watched much anime, though I love Princess Mononoke and some of the other Miyazaki films (hence my avatar--the little guy is also tattooed on my ankle).
For manga, I tend toward shojo, just for entertainment--primarily Ouran High School Host Club, Hot Gimmick and The Devil Does Exist, as of late. I've also enjoyed Pet Shop of Horrors.
